I bought this to replace the brushless one I bought. The brushless one required a fairly expensive repair and I noticed there were numerous carcasses for sale on eBay for spares or repairs. So I bit the bullet and bought the brushed one and after about 100 short cuts it is doing exactly as expected so presently happy. PS I had the brushless one for circa two years, it was not heavily used (amateur DIY). So not very happy with the brushless but happy enough (at the moment) with this new one, just bought it mid April 2022.

I bought this saw as a replacement for my corded 7-1/4 that failed. I was initially concerned about the smaller blades; however, this saw put those concerns aside immediately. It has enough power and cutting depth to cut any 2X, lumber with no issue. I used it to build my shed and had it cutting OSB, 2x4’s, 2x6’s, vinyl siding, you name it it worked flawlessly. It is too bad that it only comes with a 16 tooth blade which is only good for the roughest of cuts but I put on a Diablo 40 tooth and it is great. It can certainly use batteries on larger lumber but I only found myself charging my 3AH batteries maybe once a day while building the shed.

Purchased this circular saw to build a 190 foot property fence about 2 year's ago and it hasn't let me down at all. I use Makita cordless power tools every day for work as a maintenance technician and have never had any problems with any of them including this little gem. This is one of only a few 6-1/2" saws that will cut through a 2x? on a 45° bevel and actually cut all the way through on a single pass. I have used it to cut down interior doors, build fences and picnic tables, cut stock lumber and plywood sheathing for numerous repairs and it just keeps on going. It's not a brushless motor and can go through batteries quite quickly, but it does what it supposed to do, cut lumber. Use it with 4 amp batteries and a rapid charger and a good quality blade and your set ... MorePurchased this circular saw to build a 190 foot property fence about 2 year's ago and it hasn't let me down at all. Will get by most situations, however the BL version has much more power. This little thing is nice lite and if not used hard daily, will be a great buy. If using a lot or ripping get the BL version DHS680
I first notice a contractor using a battery operated circular saw and ordered one to try for myself. Absolutely love it. So easy to pull out and the light weight and the size is great. Cuts through 2x4's with ease and extra convenient with no cord to plug in or work around. This saw was a natural shoo in for as I use Makita products and had the batteries.
Really pleased with this saw. Needed a small, light saw to use on a building project and this does the job well. Not heavy, well balanced and the battery life seems good so far. Not having a cord trailing under my feet was a blessing and a lot safer. I've always bought Makita drills - the first one is over 20 years old and going strong - so had no doubts about choosing their brand again.
Used this yesterday and amazed at how good it is. The guides are accurate when following lines and the cut is clean and smooth. Excellent power and the battery lasts ( I used the 5ah battery) very pleased with this and happy to recommend
Compared to my mains circular saw, it is very light, making it easy to cut the fronts of fence posts (finishing them off with a hand saw). I'd never have felt safe doing this with a mains circular saw. It runs relatively quietly. I like it a lot.
As you would expect from Makita, it is an excellent saw. A bare unit so the choice of battery is entirely up to you. As power saws go this is pretty quiet. At 18v it may not be the most powerful, but it certainly performs fantastic. Easy to use, cuts beautifully, option to attach a vacuum if you wish. Can't really fault it in anyway, and wouldn't want to. Yet another Makita added to my ever growing collection.
Makita makes great tools. I've bought many, many of their tools over the years. This tool is also great. BUT, sadly, the company has modified their tools to prevent the old batteries from sliding into the battery socket. It's an unnecessary modification (a small metal stopper) designed solely to force customers to buy new batteries and new battery chargers. Sad.I've always bought Makita tools. I'm upset that my batteries and charger will not work with this, and many other new Makita tools.
