Very pleased having chosen this chainsaw, after considering quite a few - including petrol. I bought mine to cut up a lot of felled leylandii tree trunks to build a log wall. It's sailed through 150 logs so far of various thicknesses from 5cm to 20cm. The UC3541A seems to be a perfect match for this, and if it keeps performing as well as it has, I'll be delighted.

Disappointed to say the least.

I was quite confident buying Makita as a friend of mine has their entire battery range and have been reliable. This however was a disappointing experience for me - the chainsaw worked great while it did, cut like butter, plenty of torque, lightweight....I finished a small cut, rested it down on a stump, picked it up and the thing wouldn't respond. The power button felt sloppy as if something inside has broken and isn't activating the switch.Shame as it was pretty decent. I liked the simplicity of the chain tensioner and the cover locking mechanism.I can't believe I had a Qualcast last 6 years and this 1 day.

Upon opening the packaging I was concerned to find all the adjustment parts were made of plastic? Considering all the other moving parts were alloy or steel, this didn’t fill me with confidence. Unfortunately after less that ten minutes use cutting small branches, the chain came off and had broken the plastic adjustment pin. This rendered the saw unusable as the chain could no longer be adjusted. Screwfix were great issuing an immediate refund when returned. I never had a bad experience with Makita before. I would not recommend this chainsaw due to poor use of construction materials.

Do not buy
28 October 2021

I had high hopes for this item, it felt robust and wellmade and for about 5 minutes it was working great! Then for no apparent reason the chain came loose and it stopped working. The adjustment pin to tighten the chain is made from plastic and this had snapped off!! The whole thing then became redundant. This seems to be a regular problem from reading other reviews and a ridiculous design flaw! Then I had the hassle of returning it.Sort it out Makita!!

Excellent chainsaw

I pondered long and hard before buying this model. Initially kept looking at slightly cheaper ones but so pleased I went for the Makita. Handles very easily, cuts through wood like butter.I’ve used it on four separate occasions now and it feels balanced and effortless.Very simple to fit the chain, cable length at 10m is ideal.Would definitely recommend.Too early to check reliability yet but confident it will work satisfactory for many years.

Fantastic piece of kit
9 May 2020

There are many different models on the market for home use, some very cheap and some very expensive. This one I thought was a good price somewhere in the middle and Makita is a good make - I wasnt disappointed. I chose a 240v version over a cordless because I believe if they are not used regularly the battery may fail. The extra long cable is also very useful when up a tall ladder because you are not dragging an extension cable up with you. It was easy to assemble and easy to use. Well worth the money. Highly recommended for occasional use. Just one thing to remember, chain oil is not included so should be bought separately.

Handy chainsaw
24 April 2021

I bought this some months ago but used it for the first time last week. All went well until the chain went blunt before I could finish cutting down 30 Leylandi. I do not know but think that this may have been my fault as I was cutting close to the ground and may have got soil on the chain. After sharpening the chain I tried again but this time the small plastic lug that tensions the chain broke off making the chainsaw useless.Screwfix, as always, gave excellent service and replaced the chainsaw without a quibble. Very happy with their service and my trees have now all been cut. The internet says others have had problems with the plastic lug breaking but when it is working the chainsaw is so good that I am happy to chance that it will not happen again.

Lightweight and versatile chain saw
27 November 2022

This is a versatile and well-made chain saw with many safety features. The printed user guide is helpful - but much better help and advice are available on You Tube videos regarding positioning and tensioning the chain. The chain supplied blunts very quickly - but overall this is a great purchase for occasional gardening chainsaw work.

Makita corded saw.
24 April 2021

Bought this for cutting large logs into firewood. It is very good for this, cutting 10 inch logs comfortably. Having always used large petrol Husqvarnas prior to this, the Makita is quieter, no fumes, and lighter in weight. There is a good length of cable fitted. The chain brake is very effective, being quick and easy to put on and off. The chain needs regular tensioning for the first couple of uses, but this is true of any brand new chain. Very impressed with this saw for logging.

Oozes quality; deservedly brand leader.
14 May 2020

Don't waste your money on any other electric chainsaw; I've had several. The last one I bought on the strength of being a quality brand name. It was just a year old when the chain hit a nail and instead of the chain breaking, both the drive sprocket and the main drive gear wheel shattered, being grey cast iron. This one looks properly sorted when it comes to design and quality. It may (or may not) be the most expensive, but I am impressed. two previous saws failed on the so called chain adjusters, which fell to pieces, and/or the tension changed when tightened; this Makita has the same pattern of tool-less operation as my small petrol chain saw which has had for years, and has never given trouble. I've included a pic of the last failure; definitely NOT a Makita!
