Makita 18V Brushless Line Trimmer - DUR189Z

Lightweight, powerful and a decent run time on a 5Ah battery. We have a large garden and using a mains trimmer was a pain. With this, I can strim around the edges of the garden, cut back the "wild" areas and do any other bits in about 20 mins and use less than half capacity of a 5Ah battery.Ease of use means the trimming will get done more often so thats another bonus. These new battery tools are fantastic. I also went for hedge trimmers and they rival my older mains ones too. Don't hesitate, buy battery power for your garden tools, you won't regret it.

Bought this as have lots of makita gear and batteries and always great quality. This strimmer is awesome as expected-very powerful,auto mode is great (you can also select power output manually)as it detects the thickness of the grass and adjusts power to suit saving the battery. Very quiet aswell for a strimmer. Another top quality tool by makita

From thi moment I first used it, just so happy I got this one.First, being so light you can twist anyway you want. Easy to control.For a light weight unit really rather powerful, Has just enough power to edge my Sir Walter grass, thats tough stuf.Bump feed works well4Ah Battery came withi it last well, my lawn is small, but edged that, general clean up arround the yard, then trimed the nature strip and round the corner, only half battery. IMPRESSED!Next use for nearly an hour, I up at local church as its getting dry now & mower would be overkill, long nature strip, a little heavey section of tall weeds then cliping tall bits of grass etc, using it like a mower. then wandered all over the grounds triming random weeds. Finished with 1/4 battery.The Auto setting is fantastic for this type of work , runs on low speding up in 2 more stages as soon as harder work comes along, makes it quite, and saves the battery heapes. This feature alone makes it worth it.Yes, more powerfull machines available if you need them, but I think this would be a great complement to any Brush cutter.I have not had it long but already I would buy another in a heart beat.Well done Makita

Ok, let's get the elephant out into the room. This trimmer is never going to be as good as a petrol equivaelent. It just doesn't have the same kind of 'oomph'. It is however, very good. More than enough for the average garden. It has variable speeds (be aware that it comes set to low-speed and it took me a while to figure how why it was cutting so poorly - no fault of the device and more to do with me being dumb). Once you have it on the right speed, it does the job and a single battery charge was more than enough to do our moderately sized garden. Recommended. Just don't buy this and expect to use it in a commercial setting. If you have huge areas of weeds, or large plants to strim, then go with a heavy-duty petrol brush-cutter-strimmer.
