Although a bit expensive it is worth it so far. I love the super bright 'room' option, forward only light option, and low level power lighting option. This light has proved to be very useful for checking Oil levels under the hood, inflating tires in the dark, and nice to have as a handy emergency light around the house (I have a number of Makita batteries charged for various tools that would allow for many hours of light in an emergency).

Okay light for working in close quarters. Definitely not bright enough to light a large job space. Mostly for one or two people within six to ten feet. USB charger is nice if you use those sorts of things. Would probably be good for camping being 360 degree and having the charger, plus a long battery life. The three modes are good but have their drawbacks, first when switching to the last setting, beam, it occasionally has a delay. Also the beam mode is fairly week and doesn't shine very far, albeit more than the flood modes. 180 degree mode drawback is the ways its set up it still sends some light in all directions. While this can be good, when holding from the back it sends too much light into your eyes. Overall its good but not great. For close work I would ... MoreOkay light for working in close quarters. During the summer, I decided to do major upgrades on my house electrical. Turning off the entire power, and upgrading to newer, more functional switches, fan timers, humidity sensors, intelligent AFCI/GFCI grounding plugs with ambient LED lighting. Overall, a massive undertaking. To get me there quickly, I bought this lantern to illuminate. The full glow disorients me because it's so bright, the 180 degree one is perfect. The top light I never use. I really enjoy this thing, and it can easily illuminate several feet away. Considering that this is one of my go to tools, I think the price is pretty reasonable. If you are already into the LXT Makita lineup, this is a no brainer item to pick up.

Good light let down by its switch
29 June 2020

Good light. When it works that is. It has 3 modes for 360 degree light, 180, or torch mode, cycled through with the switch. Ahh the switch. The switch when it works, is very touchy - doesn't turn on until you've pushed it all the way in and back out. Then the slightest accidental touch turns it off accidentally, briefly. But then the switch breaks and you're left without a light. In my case it lasted just under 3 years (reading around the web that might actually be relatively lucky). Just not the usual Makita quality. Buy a different Makita light instead, and if you need USB, the separate USB adapter which seems to work great.

I use this lantern all the time for home repair work and it also served well recently when we lost power for two weeks and had to live off a touchy generator that would trip off at inconvenient, usually dark, times. The switch is problematic because if you push it without enough force to actually actuate it, the light goes out. Even when you do push hard enough to deliberately switch modes, there is still total darkness for an instant. Makita should be able to do better with a positive action switch that has no dead time where there is no light at all. Accidentally depressing the switch a little tiny bit when walking shouldn't plunge you into total darkness. The USB charger seems to work fine, if very slowly. I have not dropped or abused it yet so I don't know how ... MoreI use this lantern all the time for home repair work and it also served well recently when we lost power for two weeks and had to live off a touchy generator that would trip off at inconvenient, usually dark, times. Accidentally depressing the switch a little tiny bit when walking shouldn't plunge you into total darkness. The USB charger seems to work fine, if very slowly. I have not dropped or abused it yet so I don't know how strong the white LED enclosure is. The hanging hook rotates and twists in all directions which makes it convenient to get it set in just the right spot for what you're working on. The 360 degree setting is useful for lighting up an entire room or area, much like a camping lantern. The 180 degree setting is most useful when walking in the dark (as it doesn't glare in your eyes) and when doing relatively close-up work, eg replacing an electrical outlet. The flashlight setting brightness is a bit weak and I don't have much use for it as I already have a proper flashlight. I wouldn't have bought this if I wasn't already enmeshed with Makita for most of my other tools, but it's a reasonable device if you already have the batteries and charger.

No like other flashlights, Makita's document is very accurate. I did my own test before three-day camping, I had 11 hours and 5 minutes for 360-degree lantern mode on 5Ah battery( one). I used the 180-degree lantern mode for two night at the campsite with only one 5Ah battery. It was bright enough for 10 people outdoor table at night. Almost nothing I can complain but I don't like the "plastic" protector of the hook because it is very easy to break.

Purchased: February 2019 Reviewed: July 2019 3*Ok, 4*Good, 5*Great Made in ???? Great work and camping light! Has a bright and dim area setting, a flashlight mode pointing out the top and a USB charging function. This light has been very useful the last 6 months of working and camping. I have now purchased 2; one for work and one for fun!

Really great sturdy backup
3 January 2022

I purchased this product because of the recent blackouts affecting Sydney. It's great to have peace of mind that if there's another blackout I have a torch available with a ready-charged battery with a long battery life. The addition of the USB port means I don't need to run my whole car to charge an iphone during a blackout. I was really impressed by the sturdiness of the construction and the power of the light. It has enabled me to do work after hours which can be handy as it's a lot cooler in the night. I was also really surprised at how fast Mitre 10's delivery was. It came the next day.

This is a great light. Or lights as the case is. A 360 degree LED flood providing 610 lumens, a 180 degree flood of 300 lumens, and a flashlight with 150 lumens (up from 90 lumens of the DML806). Compared to the DML185 Xenon Flashlight, this thing is amazing. When crawling in the attic, I had to be careful how to place the Xenon in case it fell over into the cellulose insulation leaving me in the dark. With 360 degrees of LED lighting, no such problem. I do feel it is not as durable as the Xenon though, the white tube doesn't leave me thinking it'll survive to many knocks so I'm a bit more careful with it. Additionally, compared to the DML806, it has a USB port for charging devices. This made it pretty handy on my last car camping trip. The other change from the ... MoreThis is a great light. Additionally, compared to the DML806, it has a USB port for charging devices. This made it pretty handy on my last car camping trip. The other change from the DML806 is the button. Depressing the button cycles through the three modes. From Off, to 360 flood, to 180 flood, to flashlight, to Off. The issue with the button is its sensitivity - when any of the light modes are on, the slightest press of the button (just enough to push it in a bit, but not so much that it clicks to change to the next setting) drops you into pitch black. Releasing the pressure on the switch allows the light to come back on (in the same mode). This only happens occasionally to me but often enough to dock it one star. It seems to be just in certain carrying positions that it happens and is something that could have been solved b y better placement of the button. Overall though, I am very happy with this light and would recommend it to others.

We live in cougar country and go outside at night, so theres that. I keep it by the door. I committed to Makita years ago for nearly all battery powered tools, so I usually have at least 8 of their batts and it made sense to add this in. If I were a DeWalt guy I would look for their version. Works great, very bright like a globe, or half bright in a half circle, or a soft beam as needed. I have no idea how long it could run on a single 18v batt, but I expect it could run all night. Great work light in tight spots because its softly diffused, much better than a flashlight.
