Husband is a master Carpenter as well as all phases of construction for almost 40 years. I purchased this track to go with his new Makita plunge saw. Last week he had a job at a medical facility putting in new formica countertops. When he got home that night, he couldn't stop telling me about how well this track worked and how easy it made the whole job!! It makes a perfectly smooth cut because your saw never waivers. The Formica was in perfect condition without chipping or splintering of any kind. This track stays exactly where you want it, no matter what type of cut you are making. My husband never raves about anything, ever! He talked all night and into the next day about it, even demonstrating it to me. His words were "This can make the most novice person cut ... MoreHusband is a master Carpenter as well as all phases of construction for almost 40 years. The Makita Track saw and rails have changed my shop. I am making precision cuts on large format like plywood. I also feel safer then using a circular saw, dragging a cord and reaching over material while cutting. I can stop and resume cuts with no problem. Wish I'd have done sooner.

I got the saw (tool only) on sale and needed tracks. I bought the 55” Powertec track, which works fine with Makita. However I wanted another 55” track and figured it wouldbe good to get the Makita railinstead of another Powertec.Quality of the Makita looks great. Is there a big difference between that and the Powertec rail? Nothing huge but the Makita rail looks to be a little better. Both rails work great connected if you need to rip a sheet of ply.The Makita rail was almost double the Powertec rail. Is it worth it? Well I like having the same rail brand as the saw.

Track arrived straight and ready to use. Anti-tear out strip is a neat feature. I bought a second track a week later and a set of guide rail connectors to connect them (connectors came from another tool site for 1/3 of the price. Sorry Rockler, $75 for two rail connectors is way too much) Note: it does take two rail connectors to connect two tracks together. Pretty disappointed that the two tracks from Rockler bought within a week of each other were both a slightly different extrusion. About 1/32" off, which does not seem like much until the saw hangs up where the tracks meet. Used individually these tracks are 5 stars, wish they connected together better and were the same extrusion shape.
The rails themselves are very good. My main complaint is the rubber anti-splinter edge feature. It works when it is firmly attached, but for what ever reason, it was immediately unsticking itself from the rail the moment it came out of the box. The 2 other non slip strips underneath are not suffering from this problem at all. Of course after the very first cut, sawdust found its way between the rubber and aluminum rail when the rubber would fall away. This just snowballs, as the rubber looses all ability to stick once the adhesive is exposed to sawdust. I have successfully fixed this, but we shouldn't be expected to.My solution was to remove the rubber strip, then use a heat gun and carefully remove all the adhesive from the rail, then I wiped it down with ... MoreThe rails themselves are very good. I purchased some 1/2" two-sided gorilla tape and carefully applied it to the rail. Then I cleaned the rubber anti-splinter edge, and applied it to the tape and rail. Its holding tight, better than new.
This track is well made. I waited to buy a track saw because I was hoping Milwaukee would have come out with one that would allow me not to invest in yet another vendor/battery/charger platform. Not happening so Makita it was. Bought the Makita cordless, got two free extra batteries and the 39 inch track. All bought from Acme. However I did not want to pay $199 to have the long 118 inch makita track shipped. Acme actually helped me to check Makitas website for a local seller. I drove to get the 118 inch. So I have all three. All of them are made with the same high tech, high quality and sturdy material. I actually have found myself reaching for the track and track saw instead of making cuts on my table saw. I plan on making a wooden protective case to hold both the 39 inch and 55 inch tracks. I also picked up the clamps for this track, which are also Makita brand. Man the clamp slides easily on the under belly of the track. Locks both sides down and you never see the clamp.
I have both the 55" and 118" Guide Rail and the Plunge saw glides very smoothly over the surface. Using the guide is infinitely better at achieving a straight cut that any other straight edge I have used. The Guide's non-slip bottom stays put during cutting that makes clamping an option. I highly recommend the Makita Guide Rail.
Had high hopes for the Makita track saw and 55" track guide. The price was very reasonable. I was disappointed with the 55" Makita track that came with the saw it was not accurate. I had to purchase a Festool track to get the accuracy I wanted. I also sent back a 118" Makita track I purchased from another supplier both tracks were slightly cupped and not as accurate as I expected the 118" track was out 1/16 ". I ordered the Festool track and use it with the Makita track saw and my expectations were met! Anybody want a Makita 55" track I have not asked Rockler if they would take just the track back that came with the saw. I assumed they would not and did not want to go through the hassle. If your an accuracy freak! The Makita track saw is great but the tracks are not ... MoreHad high hopes for the Makita track saw and 55" track guide. The price was very reasonable. Two of these tracks came in a kit with the Makita track saw. The cut quality of the saw is fantastic and I have no complaints with it, however, the track is not quite as good as the saw that rides on it. The track works well enough and is very straight, however, the anti-slip feature did not work as advertised on either of the two tracks that I have.If I don't use the track clamps that came with my kit, the track will move slightly in the middle of the cut, which I found out the hard way. Knowing that in advance, you can pretty much always clamp the track down and be fine but needing space for the clamps under the track does make it harder to break down sheet goods on the ground, which was the main reason I bought it. Instead of using the saw on the ground with a piece of foam under the plywood like I planned, I simply bring the whole operation onto a couple of saw horses, use the track clamps to keep everything in place, and I'm fine.I absolutely love the Makita track saw but I plan to see if my saw will run on the Festool track system. If so, I may upgrade my tracks since I've had a chance to speak with a few guys that have the Festool track saw and all of them have told me that track slippage is not an issue for them.
Mine arrived with an inplane crook that makes it useless. This was a bend in the flat plane of the rail. So that was not a handling or shipping issue. Makita let a bad rail out. Finally Rockler make good on the part and I have a straight rail. The saw works nicely on it. Post Christmas rush slowed Rockler's response. One thing to note in buying rails, to have proper alignment for the full length of the cut, nearly the entire saw base has to be on the rail, beginning and end. That is a loss of cut length of 10 inches on each end if to avoid starting the cut with a plunge.
