Have corded grinder but required a battery operated device. As I have Makita battery operated tools seemed the obvious choice to be able to utilise the same batteries. Doubt I’ll use corded device again. Easy to use, once switched on.Best price I found was from FFX, delivery would have been excellent if PO hadn’t mucked it up.

This tool is very well made, powerful and well-balanced. It is much easier to use compared with a tool with a power cord, allowing quick and easy use away from a power source and no tangled power cord to worry about either. Disc change is easy with the tool included and the guard, shaft and locking rings are accurately made to precise tolerances that gives confidence. The tool functions without vibration and is quieter in use than any I've used before. It is quite light to hold which prevents user fatigue. I very much liked the red warning lights that come on if the tool is being overloaded in use. They taught me to be a better user within a few minutes and allow the user to get the best out of the tool and battery.

I'm a long-standing user of Makita tools anyway. This tool is useful for me to cut and clean off metal where there is no access to mains power. It doesn't seem quite as powerful as the corded version (which I have owned for years), but that is to be expected with battery power. Prolonged heavy cutting drains the battery quite rapidly. The tool features an overload cut-out (i.e. if one is cutting too deep too fast), which is a good feature to preserve the service life of the tool. I was pleasantly surprised at how quietly it runs compared to the corded version. The weight is good and it is balanced very nicely; in some ways, this is perhaps a slightly more precise machine to use than the corded version as it is lighter in the hand and doesn't have the same torque ... MoreI'm a long-standing user of Makita tools anyway. I will certainly still be using the corded one, but I'm finding a lot of uses for this one already and I'm sure it will become an invaluable part of my tool setup.I was a little concerned about the absence of a carry case in the package, but the cardboard box in which it is supplied is quite sturdy and compact, plus the tool and accessories will still fit inside the box with the blade guard fitted.Overall very pleased with this: solid Makita build quality and good ergonomic design as always. For me, it augments rather than replaces the corded angle grinder. Howe Tools certainly offered the best price (shipped) I could find at the time of purchase.

I have many Makita grinders, corded and battery and they are excellent. This is the first 'brushed' one I have purchased. I got it for work, to leave in the van and use on site for cutting masonry and rebar as I don't like using my expensive variable speed grinders for anything other than metal work in my garage. It is adequate for purpose, but has nowhere near the power of the better models and can be stopped in its tracks with little effort. OK for dirty work and occasional DIY, but if you are a serious user, pay the extra.
This is an exceptionally good grinder. Its powerful, relatively quiet compared to my Black and Decker Proline plug-in grinder and its not too heavy. Including the battery its probably a bit heavier than an equivalent plug-in grinder but not to the extent that it becomes a burden. Highly recommended as a grinder. The downside is that if you are using it for a day of welding and fabrication it gets through batteries. I have two 5 amp hour batteries and I've learned to charge them at every opportunity if I am metal working. Stop for a coffee- top-up the battery. Using a welder and a plasma cutter in a confined space with six wires between them you really appreciate having a completely un-tethered grinder and it more than makes up for the battery life, which is ... MoreThis is an exceptionally good grinder. Using a welder and a plasma cutter in a confined space with six wires between them you really appreciate having a completely un-tethered grinder and it more than makes up for the battery life, which is perfectly manageable. I'm a real convert to cordless tools and the Makita 18V range is outstanding. Ergonomically, it perhaps doesn't sit as well in the hand as some, its a bit chunky round the body and the thumb-switch on the top of the body needs a bit of getting used to compared to the trigger switch underneath that I've always had before. Trivial stuff, basically I love it and I think, if you've read this far, you should get one!
Extremely practical for small jobs, it should be noted that this model is a bit limited power level for cutting thick metal. Despite this, it pumps the battery relatively quickly so for long-term work better to have several (charged batteries) on hand. Delivered with a high quality stainless steel cutting disc and a disk mounting key, without batteries. I would have liked extra security just in case, and a hole to put the controller on top that would have been convenient. That said no regrets - I tested everything on a blade wood and it's amazing to facilitate to debit the palette for example. I therefore recommend for individuals DIYers, but I think it is a notch below (nv power) of the requirement that I would have if I was Pro or did not have a wired next.
Very happy with this. I use it with a twist knot wheel, for cleaning up my welds. Very powerful and nice to use. Only given 4 stars as you need a few batteries on hand, if you use it a lot. But that’s the trade-off for the power you get
I’m a professional tiler and these grinders are perfect. Lightweight, powerful and above all reliable. I’ve give my tools some serious use on a daily basis and the last one gave out on me after 3 years (I think it would have lasted longer if I’d have changed the brushes sooner!). I bought the brushless version and although it’s a good tool it’s a bit too big so I got another smaller one (DGA452Z). Hopefully it’ll last as long as my old one. A couple of 4amp batteries lasts most days without recharge
Typical Makita quality. The grinder works well although I haven't used the supplied grinding disk. With a diamond cutting disk fitted, it worked as expected. My advice woold be to use a 5amp battery. A 3 amp battery was soon flattened. I'd certainly recommend this angle grinder
I bought this mainly to cut some roof tiles on the roof without cables trailing. I chose Makita because I have other Makita tools which are reliable. With a suitable blade I was pleased by the power the tool delivered, it felt well balanced in operation. The downside is that battery life is shorter than I would have liked but this could be overcome with a 5 ah battery.
