This is a very good quality sander. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not five is because it did not come with a pad hole punch or a reasonable dust collection option - either a decent dust collection bag or a shop vac adapter. For the money, it should have provided these items.

Great to use, as it sands really well. I've used it with a variety of different grit grades and on bare wood+painted surfaces, which gave me a very good finish. Build quality is great.....but the dust extraction is appalling!! The bag provided is absolutely useless due to its thin material and fine dust travels through it. Tried attaching a vacuum onto it, but the dust outlet's small diameter made that a waste of time to. Come on Makita, with a little more effort you could have made this sander a really great product.

I have been impressed with this half-sheet sander. Most noticeable positives are how well built it is, an aspect where I have found Makita tools seem to be consistent. The electronic variable speed is really useful and it is so quiet! My project for this sander was to prepare timber door panels for shellac sealer that also involved removing ingrained emulsion paint. I cannot comment on the dust extraction or collection as I was working outside and chose not to use it. I have had another half-sheet sander before this one and this machine is superior in all respects.

Its a finish sander and all its ready good for, was just hoping it had a little more weight and vibration to it. Works ok but my 30 year old black & Decker blows this out of the water. If your not into allot of wood working this would be an ok machine for the average homeowner. But wouldn't by if I were a contractor doing lots of sanding, stairs, decks etc. Its just really light weight and I probably just bought the wrong sander but it was the biggest half sheet I could find
This Makita 1/2 sheet sander is smooth, powerful and quiet. It feels good in the hands. Two small things I did not appreciate - 1) It has a paper dust bag instead of cloth. 2) I had to buy an optional accessory base to punch holes in standard sandpaper for dust control. This in effect made it more expensive.
Brilliant sander very quiet with very little vibration. I do lots of sanding and would highly recommend this sander a great replacment for one of my sanders that gave up .
This sander replaces another Makita 1/2 sheet that we've had for about 25 years. The old one is a great sander and has seen heavy use, but is finally about worn out. So far the new one seems equally as good, if not better; lots of torque, quiet (for a sander) and the new style paper clamps are even easier to use. If it holds up as well as the old one I will be more than pleased.
These sanders work well out of the box and appear to be well made. However, there is a design issue that makes them really disappointing. The sandpaper hold down clamp is secured with a screw which, over time, works it's way out and vanishes, rendering the sander inoperable. Sure, the parts are available to fix it (till it happens again) but who wants to spend nearly $200 for a tool that could be down in a matter of weeks and requires regular repairs? Really wanted these to work out as our old Milwaukee 6010 sanders have been discontinued for several years but these are just not a good option. If they fixed the hold down clamp, they'd be great.
Very quiet. Made homemade jig to punch holes in sandpaper for the vacuum system to work.Just purchased so do not know its longevity, but is well made judging by the weight and feels like professional - not homeowner's - quality when being used.Only sander I could find that uses a one-half sheet of standard size sandpaper. Most use one-fourth sheet of one-third sheet. I wanted the additional coverage that a one-half sheet gives.Satisfied so far even though it costs more than most other sanders I looked at.
WHEN I WAS A BOY MY FATHER HAD A SEARS 1/2 SHEET ALUMINUM FINISHING SANDER.HE HAD A SMALL FIBERGLASS MOLD SHOP. AND HE USED A LOT.WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN I BOUGHT A SEARS 1/2 SHEET SANDED ALSO.NOW TO THIS MIKITA 1/2 SHEET SANDER YOU CAN CONTROL THE SPEED IT ALSO IS AN ORBITAL SANDER.THE WEIGHT LETS YOU FEEL WHAT YOU ARE SANDING AND GETS THE JOB DONE WITH A FANTASTIC FINISH. DO NOT HESITATE TO PAY THE PRICE FOR THISSANDER.
