Sturdy and robust as Makita tools are, this sander is just disappointing. It's worthy of about 3/10. Its orbital speed is just far FAR FAAAAAR to slow. Even though it has 3 speed settings the fastest setting feels like "I really wish I hadn't bought this". My €29 Black & Decker mouse sander puts this to shame. Overall, it does get the job done, it just takes too long. Pull up your socks Makita or Dewalt will take your customers.

I don't understand the great reviews this sander has received.I bought this Makita to replace my much cheaper corded Titan Orbital. The reviews for this Makita were great and I have 6 other Makita tools which have been fantastic, so I thought I'd get the sander too.Compared to the cheap Titan its hopeless. It has 3 speeds, way too slow, slower, and even slower. I really cant understand what the two slower speeds are for unless you make a habit of sanding eggs or something?I'm using it with what were brand new 18v 5.0A batteries too so no excuse. They power the recip saw, circular saw and two drills perfectly (I also have the band saw and router).Ive had this sander for a number of years and its still like new (because its so slow I almost always use the ... MoreI don't understand the great reviews this sander has received.I bought this Makita to replace my much cheaper corded Titan Orbital. But I wouldn't have bought it had I known.

Great sander if used the way it's intended, light sanding and finishing. Just finished refurbishing oak kitchen tops. First sanding was done with my belt sander using 80 grit an d finished off with this sander using 120 grit, ready for 3 coats of oil. Lovely finish. Sander is light and easy to use. We'll worth the money.

This has been the first orbital sander I’ve owned and I bought as I already have a Makita drill. It’s been great so far, I’ve used to sand and prep old pallet wood ready to become something new. I’ve also used it to prep a room for decoration. I would say the dust bag works better when it’s flat and not so much when sanding vertically on a wall but I’d never expect it to be a clean process.
The wife does all the decorating as she hates the way I use a paint brush, and she's a real stickler for detail. And that means ensuring a decent surface to paint on.We've recently had a floating desk and shelves put in that needs painting and she told me she had been looking at alternative sanders to what we had.I needed an excuse to buy a cordless drill and circular saw, I suggested she look at this, and I could buy the batteries with the drill. She bit (so now I have my drill and saw, too!)From her point of view, this is a massive step up from our old B&D sander, and she tells me she's getting the job done twice as fast as she was expecting.Happy wife, happy life.Note, this is bare, so you will need a Makita battery from some other source.
Great cordless sander. Not as powerful as it's electric counterpart but is a good thing when used for tidying edges etc. Surprised at the efficiency of the extraction bag. Medium to light work would recommend without hesitation. Though could do heavier work you would require a few batteries.Used on 40 to 240 grade - Slight scratching of wood when using 40 - 80 after that there was no scratching. Before anyone comments I appreciate that you would use a range of papers when working but with this type of sander I have had scratching even on the finer grade paper with other makes.
Bought this from Screwfix as they always offer the best deals on Makita - only tried a test patch so far and its amazing, being cordless its far easier to move around and get into awkward places. Already pleased and thats just on a test patch. Wish i hadnt of waited, could've saved myself heaps of time. Had a little issue with the spare pads that i purchased but was given the best friendly advice in Abingdon when returning them and have ended up with far superior pads. The Alox 42416 or 37145 that came up with the sander as a recommended part aren't quite large enough and would've ended up damaging the sander base.
Bought this sander to add to my other Makita tools as I find their stuff reliable. My original cordless combi drill is still going strong after several years. This sander did a good job sanding my van with solid work on one fully charged 4Ah Makita battery. It is comfortable in the hand and easy to control and sanded down rust areas efficiently.Screwfix had the best price I could find and got the tool to me as fast as physically possible so no complaints at all.
I use this same modal of Makita sander at work, so decided to buy it for some side projects. Obviously something like the Mirka sanders are a bit more high end, and their price reflects that (I've used some Mirka sanders and they are good, but it's my opinion that they're a tad over priced), this Makita sander is great for my needs. I don't need to sand all day, everyday, just a few jobs here and there, nothing more than 20 minutes per day at an absolute maximum. The price is excellent and I already have a few Makita batteries, so I'm inclined to get Makita products generally. The only negative I can think of is that the sander doesn't really perform if you press it into the surface of whatever is being sanded, but this is true of most sanders (they're not designed ... MoreI use this same modal of Makita sander at work, so decided to buy it for some side projects.
