Simple without too many Bells and Whistles. Was looking at preamps from other Brands till this came out. Have always used Marantz and I like the feature of using this as a preamp. It only has 50 watts per channel for a small room that would be fine. Using this with DIY front amps and Carvers for surrounds. At that price it was comparable to Emotiva which has problems that everybody knows. I would purchase this again

The Cinema 70s is a killer move by Marantz. Never before has there been an AV receiver at this price point with full 7.2 preamp outputs which makes this one of the best value AV processors to start the jump to AV separates. Paired with an Emotiva BasX or similar you can get a very capable home theatre setup with all of the latest features and power to drive some demanding speakers for under £1500.A couple of caveats; if you want something that can handle more than a 7.2 or a 5.2.2 setup you will need to spend more. The only other thing of note is the screen is small and shows virtually no meaningful information so the on-screen display and the smartphone app is essential for anything more than input selection and volume.I have tried the internal amplifiers and ... MoreThe Cinema 70s is a killer move by Marantz. I had Audyssey on a previous Pioneer amp and didn't rate it then and still don't now. It's useful as a starting point for setting channel distances, levels and crossover points but the EQ curves do nothing for me.At this price point I really think Marantz have played a blinder with this receiver. It's truly a unicorn and a product I can highly recommend.

Absolutely mind blowing media sound system. Incredibly easy to configure via mobile app/remote or front panel. It has two zones so you can have separate audio playing in two locations. It also has a built in Bluetooth transmitter meaning that you can add Bluetooth headphones or in my case, outside garden speakers.

Bought from the very helpful Plymouth store to replace an old, nice but broken Arcam AVR. Sounds great in a mid-sized (12'x15') room with my 5.1 B&W 602S3 / LG C9 OLED / Squeezebox3 setup - maybe not the power reserves of the Arcam but more than compensated by the up-to-date format support and faultless eARC connection to the TV - if I ever need more oomph (unlikely) it can easily drive external power amps. First D&M AVR and the scope and sophistication of the setup and network control options are a revelation! The Marantz Android app is a bit rubbish, but it integrates nicely with multiple 3rd party control systems - in my case working perfectly across an LMS / Squeezebox Plugin and the TV CEC / eARC controls to the extent that it's hidden away (runs cool at the ... MoreBought from the very helpful Plymouth store to replace an old, nice but broken Arcam AVR. First D&M AVR and the scope and sophistication of the setup and network control options are a revelation! The Marantz Android app is a bit rubbish, but it integrates nicely with multiple 3rd party control systems - in my case working perfectly across an LMS / Squeezebox Plugin and the TV CEC / eARC controls to the extent that it's hidden away (runs cool at the volumes I use, even with all channels active) with no normal need to control it directly from a remote. The Trigger output can selectively power up external devices (in my case a Sub) via a relay only in required input modes - very neat! One tiny warning is that the Richer Sounds rear-panel photo shows the US (older?) model. The supplied (current UK?) kit has no "Flasher" direct 3.5mm IR receiver input, My SB3 can be setup as an IR repeater so AOK, but if you want to hide it then you may need a standalone powered IR repeater. So very happy with it, Dolby Atmos HDMI eARCpasstrough from the LG TV apps and virtualised speakers works a treat, and the Stereo Direct sound is lovely for music Great value in the Richer Sounds Easter sale and highly recommended!
This is a nice unit, no compatibility issues with devices. Unlike some HDMI switches and extractors, the unit works well with the up to date AppleTV4K. In my 18x14 room, It drives a couple bookshelf B+W speakers nicely and loud if desired. I use a powered HSU sub and a Yamaha center array connected to the pre-amp ports. Marantz/Denon removed a few convenience features from these new models. Random play and repeat are no longer USB options. The automatic configuration is quicker than my older system and works well for movie content, but I prefer unprocessed stereo for music. It does a great job with that. The unit has four programable speaker settings, and programmed my harmony remote to select the setting appropriate for the content. The manual is pretty good but ... MoreThis is a nice unit, no compatibility issues with devices. Unlike some HDMI switches and extractors, the unit works well with the up to date AppleTV4K. The manual is pretty good but lacking detail in some areas, like the music queue algorithm. Apparently not well documented in their tech data as I've been waiting two weeks for answers to a couple questions. Note that currently Marantz's service turn around is about 8 weeks.
I made the purchase to upgrade from the NR1510 following an enquiry via email and was assisted by Dave in Telesales, who could not have been more helpful. The Marantz Cinema 70s (Black) arrived a day earlier than expected. It not only looks great but sounds great too. Set up was so simple using the new improved GUI . I have a 5:1 set up and using Cambridge Audio MINX speakers. Highly recommended.
Early days, (item arrived Friday 15/9 ) but everything is working smoothly. Downloading the Marantz and Heos apps is simple with music streaming seamlessly and sound from all sources is spot on. My pro-ject X1 Carbon turntable (connected via pro-ject phono preamp and aux socket) seems to like it. Abit more tweaking in the main and sub menu's and I should be approaching the perfect balance between audio/visual contentment and ease of use.
First, BH delivered right on time w discounted shipping so Santa could have something under the tree. Thanks.Letting unit burn in, but the need was for atmos / hdmi switching to simplify HT. Using as pre and two channels for zone 2. It's working well. Is it as musical as the legacy Anthem it replaced, ? No. Not yet at least. But for HT and simplifying HDMI connects/Arc. So far so good.
Ive had this 5 days, bought as a second setup in the house for music and film. Running in out-of-the-box mode at present and outputting to a pair of B&W s607s2's, a centre MA Radius 200 and a pair of M1's. No sub plumbed in yet. The sound however is impressive and enough of a rival for the Yamaha A2A in the other bigger room.Remote is simple, not as much on it as the Yamaha, but it has the helpful backlight function. App on the phone (Android) seems a little bit pernickety but will persevere. You need a screen plugged into the HDMI to set the AVR up, even in basic mode.Running with no subwoofer, the bass to the front speakers is great and punchy and there is no distortion on the blutooth input from the Sony walkman its receiving from. The set up is in in a second living room with wooden floors and soft furnishings. Its loud enough for me even at 45/55 of its volume setting. For me, the looks are stunning (bought it in silver) and had the Cinema 50s been out 18 months ago when I bought the bigger Yamaha it would have given me some sleepless nights.Looking forward to configuring it properly once I wire in the subwoofer, but so far very very pleased. Love the little portal display too, gives it a very steam-punk/timeless feel.I bought this over the phone from Richer Sounds Manchester on a rainy Saturday afternoon and was promised Delivery on Tuesday. It arrived on Monday morning! Richer Sounds doing that amazing customer service thing they do well, yet again!
The new Marantz Cinema 70S is a triumph of design and function. If you have a small media / TV room, it might be all you need if you just run a 2.1 setup (front left, front right and powered subwoofer). Pair it with premium bookshelf speakers and you have a system that can handle music and movies wonderfully. The A-B amplification is warm and detailed, suitable for music. It has 3 4K HDMI inputs and 3 8K HDMI inputs, for some extra future-proofing. And it is luxurious box. Marantz has fully embraced being a luxury brand, and this product shows it. It's a solid unit. Could last one 20 years. It's seriously good.
