Marmot Minimalist GORE-TEX Waterproof Jacket Arctic Navy S

Just got this - fits great (5'11'', 185lb, Sz L), and is made with attention to all the details. The photos here don't do this shell justice. Fabric is just the right weight and feel for a rain/wind shell. Heavy enough for mid-temp weather and not at all bulky to add layers underneath. Too bad these pics are just glamour shots and don't show the inside of the jacket: seams, zippers and pockets are magnificent pieces of craftsmanship. I AM IMPRESSED! Can't wait for some rain (for so many reasons here in CA, and now to wear my new Marmot shell, too). This will be by go-to jacket as it gets cooler or unpredictable. It also packs nicely into the front pocket of my carry-on, so great travel shell, too.

The fit of the jacket is good, with enough room to put some extra layers underneath it.But at the most important part the jacket fails in mine opinion: that is the waterproof and breathability. In lighter rain for about 30-60 minutes it will keep you dry. But longer time or heavier rains, the jacket starts to let water through, especially at the shoulders and arms. Walked couple of hours in rain and was soaked.Breathability is poor as well. When start sweating, the inside of the jacket get wet quickly. Unless the zippers under your arms.I expect more from this jacket for its price. Especially because for it's Gore-Tex, which claims to be waterproof and breathable.

I love this shell. I purchased one size up from what I usually wear because I used it through the winter as an outer shell over a down jacket. It is a little roomy when I wear it over lighter layers or as a stand-alone, but I like that. It is the perfect balance of being a light shell but still has enough thickness to be durable. Performs phenomenally for blocking the wind. The hood and arms are very roomy, and there is great mobility. I also use it as a wind/rain shell in my drift boat in the warmer months. I again appreciate the roominess for wearing over waders and fishing gear and the ease of mobility for rowing and maneuvering in the boat. Even though it is somewhat no-frills and not flashy, it is a great workhorse shell for any number of outdoor endeavors. It ... MoreI love this shell.
