Marshall Kilburn II Black/Brass Portable Bluetooth Speaker

$399.00

(3,573 reviews)

This adventurer weighs only 2.5 kg and is the loudest in its class. It offers clear mid-range, deep bass and extended treble that is hard to find with a speaker of this size. The multi-directional sound will inspire you – indoors and outdoors. Over 20 hours of playing time The Kilburn II offers over 20 hours of playing time with just one charge. Thanks to its compact size and e-guitar-inspired carrying strap, it is the ideal travel companion. With the battery indicator on the top, you are always aware of the remaining charge. 360° sound experience The design of the Kilburn II is based on the original presentation of stereophonic sound by British engineer Alan Blumlein. By separating the spatial content from stereo recordings, this adventurer increases the size effect and rebuilds the signal so that it can act in all directions. Compared to other portable speakers on the market that produce only a mono signal, this leads to a completely different experience.

Overall speaker is good. If you want excellent audio quality and portability then this speaker is for you. Price range is a bit higher but can be neglected for its mobility. If you don’t want to move your speaker around there are many home theater systems which provides better sound quality and better price range than this.

Good quality sound for this sort of device. It's not excessively bassy and I like the Bluetooth/wired feature that automatically mutes my ham radio on the wired line whenever I get bluetooth sound from the computer. However, Bluetooth will not stay connected with my iPad so I have to used wired. In addition, I don't like the auto-shut off feature when plugged into AC power. I have to turn it off and back on if there is a long period of silence. There should be a way to override this.

This is an excellent quality bluetooth speaker. Unlike cheaper systems it forms a rock-solid bluetooth connection with no drop-outs. But better yet, the sound quality from it is just amazing. It's incredible that Marshall get such rich and high fidelity results from such a small unit. The fact that it's rechargeable and can be carried around rather than always requiring mains power just makes it that much better. 10/10 would recommend.

Loud and full-bodied sound

I purchased this gem and was blown away by the quality of the sound and build. My old Bose Sounddock gave out after many years and I felt that the newer Bose devices were not up to par and decided to research and investigate other options. I examined several speakers from multiple manufacturers and chose Marshall. Glad I did.

Sounds amazing, looks even better
30 December 2022

I have Sonos all throughout my house, but honestly I'm not crazy about the Move or Roam. I used to have the smaller Stockwell II and I loved it, I just wanted something a little beefier. This thing sounds great, great bass, but also able to deliver some nice mids and highs. It looks amazing, almost decorative when not in use.

Style Over Substance

Disappointing. The sound quality: OK - my 5 year old Bose Soundlink (which is a quarter of the size) has comparable sound quality. It also gives out a faint feedback hum when connected to the power source - not a good sign of a quality speaker! Distortion is evident at higher volumes. Bluetooth connection is buggy, it refuses to connect to my Mac for example. Most of the reviews here are people that haven't heard good speakers or blinded by the Marshall brand (or because they got the unit for free)You are very much paying a hefty price for the style and brand name of this unit. If you care more about quality and functionality, avoid this unit and save yourself some money.

Stylish high quality speaker
16 April 2020

This is portable Bluetooth speaker from Marshall, known for their guitar amplifiers from the 1960's onwards. Echoing their classic designs, it has a stylish slightly retro look with a metallic speaker grille and prominent Marshall logo. The cabinet is finished in an attractive black leather effect (Burgundy is available) with a substantial black carrying strap with a red underfelt - a nod to a guitar strap. Overall it has a high quality appearance. At 2.5kg it is no lightweight, but that adds to the impression of solidity. As a Bluetooth speaker it has to be paired with a smartphone or other device. This is quickly and easily done with a simple button press and provided a strong and stable connection. There is also a 3.5mm audio input, which I have not tried. The internal rechargeable battery has a claimed 20 hour life, which looks about right. It does not seem possible for the user to change it, should that ever be needed. It has an IPX2 rating, which I understand should allow it to cope with being caught outside in a shower, whilst obviously not being fully waterproof. The top mounted controls comprise a Bluetooth pairing button and three rotary dials for on/off/volume and treble and bass. There is also a handy battery charge state indicator. What about the sound quality? In a word, excellent. Surprisingly powerful, distortion free and with an impressive bass response for the size.It is not cheap, but the combination of style, build quality, performance and portability must be hard to beat.

The best on the market - serious bit of kit
27 April 2021

By far the best portable speaker I’ve owned - incredible sound quality - base goes loud, treble crystal clear, volume loud. Ensure your mobile volume is on full volume, then the speaker really comes alive - then you can adjust the base, treble and volume tabs accordingly. Hosted a BBQ from 12-6pm and there were a few showers and the speaker battery wasn’t an issue and it’s waterproof features were rain resistant. This speaker is fantastic and depending on your music preference is offers better results than many others i.e. awesome for house music etc It’s portable but not exactly something you can carry around for long periods - perfect for outdoor usage; beach, park etc it takes no time to charge up after usage either - definitely run the battery down first before ... MoreBy far the best portable speaker I’ve owned - incredible sound quality - base goes loud, treble crystal clear, volume loud. Strong recommendation - money well spent.

Works well with my Blair Bagpipes
9 April 2022

I am using the speaker for my Highland Bagpipes. It works great with a cable. I have not tested the bluetooth function. Bluetooth technology generally has too much latency from the time you play a grace note to the time it sounds. The amp/speaker sounds great and can support a small room. I wanted something that would work in a smaller room, to use for practice, and could play at a lower volume than my acoustic bagpipes.I believe the box is rated at 100 decibels which is less than the 130 decibels that an acoustic bagpipe produces. It has has a volume control which does not exist on acoustic bagpipes.I play it with my Blair electronic bagpipes.

This stylish compact Bluetooth speaker means that do you not have to go on Radio 2's Popmaster quiz to win it ! The sound quality is very good, particularly the bass, and, with some 20 hours battery life, ensures that you do not have to recharge it frequently. The battery does charge up fairly quickly in any event. It is light and very portable. On the negative side, for someone who likes to (and has to in many cases) follow instructions, the leaflet accompanying the speaker was in an extremely small font and very difficult to read. Moreover, rather annoyingly, the diagram showing the controls was NOT the speaker that I took out of the box and related to a different model !
