This gem of a Marshall amp packs incredible tone and power into a small package. In the 20 watts setting, it is louder than a 6o watt Fender tube amp I once owned. In the 5 watt setting, it is about half as loud as the 20 watt. What really makes this amp special is the sounds you can get by jumping and mixing the channels. The low bass and high treble combined provide unique tones that make you want to keep jamming. With a good reverb pedal and overdrive unit added, this amp should make any rock guitarist happy.

Great little power house of an amp. Seems well built. Lots of options to dial in your tone. Single coils or humbuckers no problem. For my style No need for distortion pedals, I just use my guitar volume to vary my tone. The 10" speaker is great and I have a 2x12 cab that works great with it. I usually only have it on 5 watts for rehearsals, 20 watts to gig. It meets all my requirements, great sound, light weight and fun to play. If you are into very heavy distortion you will need a pedal. DI out is nice feature.

Love this cab. Really has a rounded low end which is needed with such a high end amp head. Aesthetically it has that old school charm and is just a sight to behold in my rig.Perfect for home and a small gigs.

I used to play through a 100 watt tube head with a 4X10 bottom before I purchased this amp. I brought it to rehearsal and it held it's own with the drummer. The next test was an outdoor block party, I was afraid it would get drowned out, but again, it held its own with both channels at a little below 5 (with channel jumping). For my use it is loud enough for any small to medium gig, after that you will most likely be mic'd so it won't matter. The channel jumping offers numerous voicings depending on how you jump the channels and which input you plug into. This combined with the channel mixing allows you to tweak the amp for different guitars.
Absolutely fantastic sounding cab, the V types really chime and cover all frequencies. Paired with Dr Z Monza....compliments the amp and added real Marshall depth and thump to the sound. Highly recommended 2x12
To my ears at least, this amp delivers a plethora of classic Marshall tones. There seem to be a fair few guides out there for achieving specific sounds by playing with input and tone options. It cleans up nicely too. You can get that edge of breakup sound which is very sweet with single coils. I have not tried the amp with effects pedals yet. The effects loop is pretty much permanently home to a JHS little black box. That brings me to one potential deal breaker... this thing is loud. Even at 5 watts it's capable of melting faces. This may, or may not be a concern to you, but an attenuator, or a similar solution should allow you to achieve those smile inducing Marshall tones without aggravating your neighbours.
Overall:Absolutely fantastic amp! It's simply a mini Plexi, perfectly executed. I get an entire spectrum of incredible vintage Marshall plexi tones from this amp. I use the top input of the Normal channel and jumper to the High Treble channel. For the cleanest sounds, I use my strat and just the normal channel volume. I keep increasing the amp volume to get more bite, and the tone controls are all highly interactive, including the presence control. I don't dial in any of the High Treble for this bluesy type of sound and it's perfect! When I want to go full on Marshall, I switch to my SG and mix the Normal and High Treble channels. With the High Treble a little goes a LONG way, and again, you'll want to play with the tone controls, but you can get all the vintage ...Ā MoreOverall:Absolutely fantastic amp! With the High Treble a little goes a LONG way, and again, you'll want to play with the tone controls, but you can get all the vintage goodness with the mix, AC/DC, Cream, Zep, Jimi, all of it. And of course you get all of this in a 35 pound GORGEOUS package, with a modern effects loop and a Direct out. If you're worried about this amp being loud enough don't be. It is VERY loud, but where it really shines is the ability to dial in the perfect tone at the perfect volume and then just slap a Sennheiser mic in front of it and you can play anywhere with it, without having to lug a half stack around. Likewise the 10" speaker, it is PLENTY, but you can add extension speakers.I would love to now buy a 1959 SLP hand wired, if I ever win the lottery, but in the meantime the SV20c gets me everywhere I need to go with my sound. Thank you Marshall, and thank you zZounds!
Don not let this little monster fool you, the 20 watt 1x10 combo may look small but it is mighty! You want to sound like your guitar idols of the late 60s and 70s? This is the amp for you. If you are looking to use this as a bedroom practice amp, I'd highly recommend buying an attenuator or a jhs little black box, the power and volume will overwhelm you and you will miss out on the beautiful tone.
Overall:This amp arrived today, and I am blown away! The legend of Plexi loud is true, this thing on 5 watts is crazy loud especially with an overdrive pedal. That being said, this amp runs pedals great and they really make the amp growl and break up. If you are wondering if you can use it to get over drums, yes! This amp gets really loud. I have a DSL40C I did some work to and that doesn't seem to punch with this amp. Great tone, great looks and the quality of construction is what you would expect at a higher price point. Thank you zZounds for carrying this amp and thank you Marshall for building it! Finally a Plexi you can play at home, barely....
Vintage plexi sounds out of a much more manageable combo. I've paired this with a JHS little black box, so I can really push it, and it sounds amazing. If you want an early Marshall sound, but can't justify an old 100w stack, this is the next best thing
