Great product, highly recommend! I was always worried about introducing the bottle to my baby, however it became necessary with pending appointments I needed to attend. I had no need to worry as Calma made this transition so much easier for us. As with all Medela products this product is great quality and value for money. The unique design of the bottle helps my baby take to the bottle as if feeding from the breast they need to suck it. In comparison to regular bottles where you are only dripping the milk into their mouth! Tried Phillips, Vital and Nuby before finally finding Calma. A feeding system that maintained the suck reflex to an extent (none of the others came close) and gives the best chance of avoiding nipple confusion/chewing/pacifying/fluttering if topping-up, for days out or when intending to revert to breast. Although one size fits all did struggle with a sub 7lb newborn (triggers gag reflex with full latch and length of teat can interfere a little with the wave-type motion at the back of the tongue). Seems to correct/work better around 8lb +. Minimal reflux and very rarely causes choking (when milk goes down the wrong way). Did start with budget/entry alternatives e.g. Tommee tipper which were uncomfortable and inefficient. Middle market options e.g. Phillips are not significantly better. You get what you pay for.

It’s a very bad experience. My 1 month old has very strong latch and suction so this teat has dispensed too much milk to the extent of choking and then throwing up. He finished the bottle much faster than using a typical slow flow teat. Also the sucking part of the teat is too thin and long - there’s no part equivalent to areola - the baby’s mouth was not wide open like it would be when they breastfeed so the teat kept bobbing in and out as he sucked - the baby was not getting “grip” of the teat - I could tell that he’s not experiencing anything close to breastfeeding as claimed by the product. So much for the technology and the high price. Complete waste of money. I’m a big fan of Medela for their products but I do not recommend this product at all.

The design means a little more faff to clean but is far outweighed by the benefits of the design.One thing I’ve noticed is I think when warming a bottle up with a Calma on, I find after warming, it’s worth unscrewing the teat off and then back on again to release some air. Otherwise when squeezing to test milk temp on wrist you get a fast flow.Medela customer service for pump hire have been good too.

This teat is a life saver! My baby wasn’t able to latch in the beginning and she would only take bottle. We bought this out of recommendation from our lactation consultants and my daughter took it straight away.I like that she has to work and actually suck for milk to come out instead of other teats where it pours right into her mouth.This product mimicked breastfeeding and it really helped my breastfeeding journey continue.The only downside is you have to replace the teat after awhile as the silicone does start to wear down. There are a few times where milk spilled through and we had to get a new one as replacement.
I was recommended this bottle by a midwife in hospital when I began my breast feeding journey as she advised it would help to switch between bottle and breast as the baby would have to work to get the milk out.Unfortunately my baby did not like it, nor did I!I found that a lot of milk continued to come out after and she ended up making a mess and eating faster than another brand of bottle I had tried.I found the price point to be very expensive so if we did want to use these bottles I would have had to fork out quite a bit of money just for a few. I am glad we only bought 1 to try to start out with, that would be my recommendation for anyone wanting to try (just purchase one).
I was given some of these from a friend of mine who used them with her son and I absolutely hated them. Worst bottles ever. My son wasn’t able to suck much out, he got tired and gave up. I like the idea in theory but my son just couldn’t do it - the flow was just too slow - too much effort for limited gain.
