The first thing I noticed about the breast shields was that I easily forgot about them once they were on. I also appreciated the sizing instructions that helped me realize I was using the wrong size flanges before. I'm now using the 24mm size. I had been using a size that was too big prior to that. I was totally stoked to try new flanges for the Medela pump. Ironically enough I was dealing with some 2nd time Mom guilt right around the time I received the new flanges. A little backstory , I breastfed my first daughter with absolutely no problem. My oldest was so attached to the breast and refused a bottle after about 4 months and didn’t drink from anything other than my breast and a sippy however I was able to pump tons and tons of milk for her , she’s almost 4 and just a year and a half ago I found some stashed away in my sisters deep freezer. Fast forward to now , I’m a wife and mom of a very busy toddler and always constantly on the move so I hadn’t been having as much luck with pumping as I did previously. I was able to pump more comfortably which led me to pump more and stash a little more milk for my little one. I really enjoyed the soft rim because it fits much better in the hands free bra and it’s just a better feel for my breasts in general. Talk about a mood booster ! Knowing that it wasn’t me with the issue and just an issue of using the pump incorrectly with incorrect flanges , changed my views. I would definitely recommend these to just about anyone who felt like they were needing a change. The assembly and use of these shields is extremely easy - it's essentially the same as the traditional shields, and they fit perfectly on my existing valves (attached is a picture comparing the standard shields vs the flex shields for reference). Once assembled, I was able to fit them on with much more ease. Previously, I would find myself adjusting my shields to get them in just the right spot, wasting precious minutes of my time. With the PersonalFit Flex Shields, I was able to get pumping immediately, as they fit great and were extremely comfortable. I did not have to adjust them once, and it was an overall great pumping experience because they were so comfortable! I was even able to up the pressure on my pump, which allowed for a greater milk output, without any discomfort. I have now switched to exclusively using these shields and love how comfortable and easy my pumping experience is.
When I received my breastpump at the hospital, the shields in the kit were too big. Thankfully, Target had these in stock! I originally ordered two packages of them, thinking there was only one shield per package, but there are two shields in each package. Apparently I missed the fine print. It worked out though, as now I can wash a set and have another set ready for use. The silicone edges are very comfortable on the breast tissue and the shields clean and sterilize easily.

I thought these might be the miracle product that forever changes my milk production!Sad to say, the Medela Flex Breast Shields are not life-changing, but they are a major improvement. I was already using all Medela products and the hard plastic breast shields that come standard with the pump (although I use a 27mm instead of the standard 24mm). The new breast shields are still hard plastic, but they have a sort rubbery edge that lays flat on my breast. And the design is slightly different - the cup shape is more contoured, leading to a better fit. Overall, these are more comfortable than the standard shields. The rubber edge is soft, but it does occasionally pinch like a rubber band. The seal is better, and I have noticed significantly less milk on the shield when I'm finished pumping. Less waste on the shield and more in the bottle is great for me! The shields are still as easy to sterilize as the older version. Because of the contoured shape, they are slightly harder to store, but that hasn't been an issue. Overall, my milk production might be slightly up due to less waste on the shield and a better fit on my breast. Although these aren't the miracle milk producing product I was hoping for, I have been impressed with the upgraded design and I don't plan on going back to the old hard plastic shields any time soon.
I was so excited for these, they cup the breast so comfortably. But the space for the nipple is sooo short, it is ridiculous. So many women have some degree of nipple elasticity these days, how did Medela not consider that these need to be 2-3 times longer in order to be used. They are worthless to me because of this design flaw. It would be so easy to make these with a longer tube to hold the nipples. The length of the original size 27s is perfect (but I would love to see that length on the 24s.) Come on Medela!

I thought the soft rim definitely added more comfort as they did not dig into my breasts as compared to the hard plastic flanges that are standard issue with breast pumps. Normally I use the Medela Pump In Style with the regular-sized flanges so I went back and forth between the 21mm and the 24mm size breast shields. Ultimately, I decided the 24mm shields were the optimal fit for me based on comfort and the provided sizing instructions - this size was especially comfortable when my breasts were full / slightly engorged. I was excited to receive this Breast Pump Flange Set from the weeSpring Parent Panel. I’ve only used traditional, one piece 24 mm Medela flanges in the past. I pumped for over 2 years with my first baby and have been pumping daily with baby #2 for over 4 months now. The first thing I noticed about the Flex flanges was the shape: they are oval instead of circular like the traditional flanges. Also, they have a soft, silicone rim (it’s very well attached—I pulled and bent it and I don’t think it will detach from the hard plastic flange). The shape and added rim made them more difficult to slip into my Medela pumping bra through the hole, but if you put the flange against your breast before attaching it to the connector and bottle, it wouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t ... MoreI was excited to receive this Breast Pump Flange Set from the weeSpring Parent Panel. I’ve only used traditional, one piece 24 mm Medela flanges in the past. I pumped for over 2 years with my first baby and have been pumping daily with baby #2 for over 4 months now. The first thing I noticed about the Flex flanges was the shape: they are oval instead of circular like the traditional flanges. Also, they have a soft, silicone rim (it’s very well attached—I pulled and bent it and I don’t think it will detach from the hard plastic flange). The shape and added rim made them more difficult to slip into my Medela pumping bra through the hole, but if you put the flange against your breast before attaching it to the connector and bottle, it wouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t find the Flex flanges to be any more comfortable or efficient than my traditional flanges. I also found the “nipple tunnel” to be shorter on the 24 mm Flex flange when compared to the traditional, one piece 24 mm flange. My nipple tapped the end of the tunnel of the Flex flange when I was pumping, which was not so much uncomfortable as it was irritating to my nipple tip. The nipple tunnel on the 27 mm Flex flange was a little longer, but it wasn’t the right size for my nipple overall. I like knowing that the Flex flange is made without harmful materials like BPA, natural rubber latex, or phthalates. However, I don’t think I would choose to purchase the Flex flanges since I already have several sets of the traditional one piece flanges that work great.

I have had three different pumping experiences with three different children and without a doubt if you were a first time mom, these are the breast shields I would recommend. Everything is awkward about pumping the first few times you do it and the thing I remember most with my first child is the pain. It turned me off, but as with breastfeeding, the more you do it the easier it becomes. This is the first time I have used a softer breast shield and I can say after years of pumping that these are very comfortable. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to go back and have these with my first kiddo! I also use a pumping bra that holds everything in place but with this Flex Breast Shield from Medela it is almost not necessary because the fit is much better.I have also spent a considerable amount of time trying to size myself and get the correct size flange. My breasts are two different sizes and with this comes nipple and areola differences and given the Medela guidelines, I now use two different size flanges to make sure I have a proper fit.
