I purchased the Swing Flex on the recommendation from a friend who had used a Medela breastpump when breastfeeding both of her children. I have to say this pump is one of the best items we bought for our new baby. I have used this pump regularly, twice, sometimes three times daily, for the last three months to build up a supply of frozen milk, for my return to work. It has also enabled me to leave my baby for two days with my parents for a friends wedding without any concerns about his feeds. I found the pump easy to assemble, clean and use, from day one. I use the larger shield supplied after advice from Medela customer service - and also found by turning it slightly on an angle, is most comfortable and effective for me. I would recommend this pump to all new mums ... MoreI purchased the Swing Flex on the recommendation from a friend who had used a Medela breastpump when breastfeeding both of her children. Aged 23, I was the first one in over a decade to give birth in my family. My family is from an ethnic background, so their experiences of childbirth and nursing were very different. When my son was born, he had a poor latch and I had no clue about breastfeeding. I tried to do my best, but a combination of a poor latch, cluster feeding and baby blues left me in tears for days. I tried to do my best, but a combination of a poor latch, cluster feeding and baby blues left me in tears for days. I was still determined to pull through, however I was under immense pressure from family to “give him proper milk” because he is not getting full up. I was already going through a tough time with anxiety and postnatal depression, and the last thing I needed was constant reminding of how incapable I was to fill my baby’s stomach. I would be nursing him for an hour, and he would be hungry again 10 minutes later. I was even told by a family member that my “boobs were too small” which means I didn’t have enough milk (which is actually a myth). I now know that feeding constantly is normal, especially in the first few days when the milk has not fully come in so I can pass that knowledge on and save a new mother’s sanity. However, i felt like i was fighting a battle trying to breastfeed my son. I gave in to the pressure and introduced formula when my baby was 3 days old, which was the biggest mistake of my life, as it had a huge negative impact and resulted in an extremely low milk supply. I still did not want to give up breastfeeding. there is nothing wrong with formula, but it wasn’t my choice. I remember sitting for an hour nursing, and then giving him a full bottle straight after because of my low milk supply. i tried to nurse all day long. I was trying to give my baby the best whilst fighting off the depression. I was even told “maybe he doesn’t like your milk” or “i bet nothing comes out.” These are just some of the harsh comments I had to hear just after giving birth. I did not have enough knowledge or access to a good breast pump. i had bought a manual pump from a different brand, however that made no difference as it was extremely hard to get the milk out. Lockdown had started which had made things 100 times harder, as i was now alone with a newborn baby without any family or friends. I just WISH i had known and bought an electric breast pump in the early days. I remember being told "why would you waste money on a pump you dont have milk like a cow."Despite all this, I managed to save up and buy a medela electric pump (single). Adam was around 4 months old then, and my life changed so much it was unreal. I started pumping a few times a day, and it made the biggest difference. I remember the first time I was able to “exclusively” breastfeed for ONE of the night feeds (previously I had to bottle feed in the night or a mixture of both). It was the happiest moment of my breastfeeding journey. I remember telling my husband “he had breastmilk only.” this was just one feed, but the start of something big. due to pumping my milk supply increased and i was now exclusively nursing him for all of his night feeds, I went from giving Adam around 8 bottles a day, to just 1 or 2. With the medela, I was also able to prove those wrong who had said I had no milk! I had a little problem with the pump, but medela team was amazingly helpful in providing help! Medela, THANK YOU.

Once baby was born my nipples become very sore and painful , each time I thought I have to feed my baby already was painful. I also was afraid of breast pumps as I had some very unpleasant experience in the past with my first baby. After long research and reading million reviews I decided to buy Medela single breast pump. I was terrified to try it out but in relief that it might help. Once it started to work I was in shock how painless and easy it was , I was expecting something painful or anything but to feel nothing I literally tiered up as it was a relief for my sore and bleeding nipples ! Please mums who just had a baby don’t be afraid purchase this breast pump it saved my life and made me less grump mum . Easy and effective!
2 September 2023

I have recently just bought this Medela electric breast pump after using a manual one for 10 weeks. This has been a life saver since I started using it! It’s so easy to set up and use. I was also over the moon when I found out it’s either battery operated or mains and which is great whilst on the go!

I bought this after trying two different brands before and this was just the right one. Easy to use and to clean. Comfortable and can be used also with batteries which makes it a bit easier to use it around the house. .Very good product and definitely recommend it!

Great Pump
5 March 2023

This pump is great! It’s set to pump each boob for 25/30mins then it stop’s automatically. It’s great and efficient and gets the job done! I only wish that I brought the double pump so I don’t have to sit for an hour pumping each side. If I brought a double I could do both breasts in 25/30mins. you can put batteries into the pump and walk around the only thing I’ve found with this pump is the batteries run out quickly, so I’m afraid your constantly tired to a chair that’s near a plug socket!

Great pump.
1 March 2023

I bought this after enjoying my manual Medela pump but wanting a hands-free option. I also bought the Medela bustier. I think that this pump definitely needs some sort of lanyard (although it does have a clip), but is otherwise great. It's less efficient/fast thresh the manual pump, but still an effective option.

This pump didn't work for us
30 October 2023

Bought this a year ago, thought it sounded great, but could only get drops of milk out, so never useful. Went to a lactation clinic and they couldn't understand why it wouldn't work either. Contacted medela and troubleshooting didn't work either. Tried again recently to use it when I was away for a few days - again nothing pumped. Expensive waste of money for us unfortunately.

Wonderful breast pump!
30 June 2021

I purchased the Medela breast pump after receiving very positive reviews from friends. Was skeptical at first as there are mixed reviews online but went ahead with the purchase anyway. I must say I am pleasantly surprised by this pump's efficacy. I have used Philips and tommee tippee in the past for their breast cushion comfort but I didn't feel any discomfort using the Medela despite it not having one. The suction is pretty strong. A tad more than the Avent even. Cleaning is much easier, given there are no tiny rubber valve components that need to be removed except for the rubber disc. It's fairly easy to clean and put together. All in all, it's a wonderful pump and I'm glad with my purchase.
