I really love this pomade. First of all, it smells absolutely fantastic, though it is a pretty strong "masculine" scent, so I don't wear perfume when I use it (I wear "feminine perfumes with notes of flowers and fruits); however, a woodsy, musky "masculine" cologne would probably complement this well. Anyway, I use this pomade when I have my hair cut into dramatic layers, in order to really texturize and define the layers, and it works fantastically for that! A really small amount goes quite a long way, so the small 8(?)oz container lasts quite a long time... which is important, considering the --in my opinion-- rather high price of American Crew products, including this one. Love the smell of this pomade, it's the essential American Crew scent. It's not overpowering and lasts a long time. However, I didn't get enough hold from this product, found that I needed to supplement with another pomade or hairspray. If not applied well, it can get flaky and lose its hold. I have thick, moderately wavy hair.

This stuff is absolutely perfect in my opinion. I've tried other products from American Crew and other brands, but only because I couldn't find American Crew Original Pomade. This is the one and only.Recently tried American Crew's new variation of pomade and they're only acceptable, just not the same. Please American Crew, don't ever stop making this stuff. It's got good hold (I don't like stiff, hardened feeling of regular gels or pastes or whatever else is out there), smells great and makes my sometimes dry and bristly hair softer and moisturized. My wife also loves it in my hair.
The brand/product that I loved and had used for years must have changed something in it's ingredients which made it like glue in my hair ~ so unfortunately I had to start the painful search of finding a replacement. This product did the job! My hair is short and fine and it helps to give my hair the texture and shine that I was use to with my old product! YEAH!! After a few tries of other brand names I finally found a replacement!! Lucky me!!
Received product. Thought it was a good deal until one was opened. The contents is white vs clear. Some have a yellowish tint to them. The gel has a mild offensive smell and the gel doesn’t hold. Need to put twice as much then the clear gel. By doing so, the smell is not pleasant. Also, the containers are inconsistently filled. Some are filled to the top, some half way, and others 2/3s full.
Product felt greasy after some time. They recommend for curly hair which I admittedly don't have, but the hold is sub par, my hair falls flat even after using ~2 fingertip amount and lays in a slick pile. I bought this out of desperation and completely regret it. I think it is way overpriced. It is faintly scented but not enough to overcome the medicinal smell it has. Very disappointing at a premium price point. The more I think about this review the angrier I get. Cannot recommend unless you're going for an actual greaser style slicked look.
