Comfortable Hiking Boot

I found out that I have a normal-sized toe box with a narrow heel, which made finding a shoe that fit me right surprisingly difficult. I tried on the Moab II WP Mid hiking boot and found that they fit me perfectly! I wear size 9.5W in regular walking shoes and found that the boots in this size were way too tight for my feet, so a size 10W worked great. I chose to order the GORE-TEX version of the same model since I live in a very wet and snowy climate and would love to walk through the snow with them in the winter.FIT:When the shoes arrived, I found that one fit perfectly and that the other slid around somewhat near my heel. I'm assuming this is just because I have two differently-sized feet and that there isn't an error in how the other shoe was made.FEEL:I find that tying one shoe normally and the other extra tight seems to prevent my heel from sliding. However, the tongues will very quickly work there way loose from inside the rest of the shoe, causing me to need to retighten them about once per walk. I also find that dirt and small rubble enters the shoes very quickly, even though I almost exclusively walk with them on dry pavement. So far, I have walked with them in the snow and over top of puddles a few times, and no water has managed to work its way into the shoes.Additionally, these shoes seem to be versatile for wearing in different temperatures. On colder days (anywhere from 0 to -30F here), they feel very warm and comfortable with a pair of thick socks. On warmer days (so far only tested around 40F, they don't feel too hot or too cold wearing normal-thickness crew neck socks.APPEARANCE:I ordered the color "Brindle" online and found that the brown colors of the shoe appeared darker than the images being shown while the blue accents appeared more saturated. This was a fine difference for me. I do hope that in the future they can extend the color palettes of their shoes to include neutral versions without accenting colors because I enjoy wearing these on a day-to-day basis and would love the ease of matching them to my black and brown outfits.

We all really enjoy it, but thought some more appropriate footwear was needed to prevent us from slipping or accidently stepping up in mud or a puddle and having to turn around with wet feet. I did way more research than I needed to and finally landed on these because I didn't want to do much breaking in, I wanted them to be true to size, very grippy, and to be able to keep a decent amount of wetness out. These are PERFECT for my needs. I have worn them several times and they are very comfortable, warm, dry, and supportive. I feel like it's almost impossible to slip. I usually wear a 7.5, but I ordered an 8 so I could easily wear thick socks. I am very happy with this purchase and anticipate being able to use them for several years.

On the downhill, my toe jams so hard into the front of the boot, causing bruises on my toes. It feels so plastic-y and is difficult to even lace up. I have officially switched back to hiking in my Moabs - holes and all- because it is so painful to hike in the TEX version.Don’t fall for the same mistake I did. Avoid the GORETEX, it only killed the integrity of this boot.

I really wanted to like these...
9 September 2021

I have many Merrell shoes and love them all so when I wanted a mid hiking boot I went with a classic. All the reviews talk about how flexible they are and how supportive they are. So I wore them around the house for a couple of evenings and they felt great. Next, I wore them all day at work for a couple of days...still felt good. Then the ultimate test. I am on vacation exploring Utah and Idaho and doing some camping and hiking. I had them on and when I stepped out of the car at the visitor center at Craters of the Moon my right toes cramped! Medium-weight socks, just my usual. So I loosened them up a bit and got my foot to stop hurting. Then the first hike. They felt so stiff and my feet ached. We did two short (2-mile hikes). Determined to give them another chance ... MoreI have many Merrell shoes and love them all so when I wanted a mid hiking boot I went with a classic. Determined to give them another chance I wore them on a 4-mile hike in the sawtooth mountains on a fairly level trail a couple of days later. I'm sorry to say but these are just not for me. I got a couple of blisters and the toes on both feet are sore. They felt like vises. They are just not what I needed. I'm not carrying a large pack so I need something lighter. I still want a mid-cut. I wish I could return these, but Merrell warranty doesn't cover fitting issues, only defects.

My go-to hiking boots!
15 August 2021

First off- I've worn this style of Merrell for 10+ years. Received my new pair a few days ago, and they still fit perfectly. Stable fit, not crazy heavy but good for scrambling, distance hikes while carrying up to moderate to heavier weight packs. Fabric breathes well. Short break in - for me it's never been needed for this style. The soles flex in the right place for climbing steep rock. One note: I typically wear an 8.5 in street shoes, but take a 9 In these. Removable insole let's me pop my inserts in...love them and will keep coming back for my Merrels!

Perfect
7 December 2021

This is my 2nd pair of Merrel hiking boots, the first pair served me well over countless miles of hiking on rough terrine, outdoor working conditions, and casual wear for 8 years, so I bought with confidence. However, I had forgotten just how comfortable they are when you first slip your feet into them. That just does not happen to me, my feet are wide and every shoe I've ever bought required a breaking in period, not these! On the day they arrived we had just received 5 inches of snow, so I decided to put them immediately to the test, after a day of hiking at a local state park my feet remained dry and warm and the boot felt just as comfortable when I took them off, as they had when I put them on. Besides the perfect fit and comfort, what really impressed me most ... MoreThis is my 2nd pair of Merrel hiking boots, the first pair served me well over countless miles of hiking on rough terrine, outdoor working conditions, and casual wear for 8 years, so I bought with confidence. Poor Quality and NOT Waterproof
6 April 2022

I am disappointed in the quality of these boots. From taking them out of the box and wearing them on my first hike i noticed these do not keep water out. My feet have been soaked multiple times using these. I figured I would hold out and keep trying them to see if breaking them in helped. I only had these for a few months and they do not hold up well on hiking terrain. One snag of a branch and there is a hole in the top of my shoe now. For how much money I spent on these I would hope they would have held up better. Only thing these shoes having going for them is they are pleasant on the eyes

Too big
16 January 2023

I am a true size 8. Apparently not in these. I've worn them almost 30 hiking miles and they aren't comfortable to me. Too much room in toes. I bought them on clearance online but didn't save any $ because I need to go somewhere I can actually try on and get a different pair. I read so many good reviews and most everyone said they were true to size. They are too big on me but I don't want to order a 7.5 without trying on. And yes, I have good socks.

Very comfy and stable
9 April 2022

I bought these about a month ago. Until today I had only worn them walking the neighbourhood. As soon as I tried them on I found they fitted so beautifully. I have also quickly noticed that, when I have to walk on the rough, uneven verge, I felt stable and confident. Today I did a proper (albeit short) hike in the rain on a rather muddy track. They are definitely waterproof, even when I tried to jump a muddy puddle and landed in it. I felt confident on the slippery rocks at the base of the waterfall as they had good traction. Overall very comfy boots that are lightweight. I am looking forward to trying them on the cobblestones of European villages in a couple of months time.

Your the best !
9 January 2023

Awesome boot and Gortex too. Roomy enough for thicker socks. Love the box style toe as my toes don’t feel squished. Would buy again. Highly recommend the MOAB style boot. Comfort right out of box with no break in needed. Will definitely recommend to all. Even got my daughter a waterproof pair. Keep this style always in your selections!!!
