I've been wearing Merrell Moab's (shoes and boots) for 20 years and although I'm not able to hit the trails as much anymore I'm still convinced these are the best hiking shoe for a man of 70 years that still regularly navigates the tricky cracks and unevenness of the concrete trails in my neighbor. I also credit them for helping me avoid my 3rd ankle surgery. This Moab 3 shoe is the most comfortable and supportive yet.My son is a nurse. On his feel 12 hours a day. Putting on some miles. He's hooked. He liked the look of my M-3's in Oyster/Chalk so much I didn't ask if he wanted a pair, just ordered them for him. They'll look and feel great on the job!

I bought these on advice from online threads for its wide toe box and great feel. I have wide feet and bought it in my size/w. They are amazing. I got them with the Appalachian trails in mind where I previously hiked and left limping with my feet beat up from the vertical rock pilings. I was actually concerned when unboxing that these would be too stiff and heavy to be effective. The shoe holds you in the heel cup and transfers well through steps. Going downhill you are secure and left with your toes free from the usual smashing that happens in most shoes with a weak mid upper and narrow toe. The vibram souls are great on wet asphalt, mossy rocks, damp logs, ice, and turf. Short of shoes with metal studs in the lugs these are the best thing you can find to offer ... MoreI bought these on advice from online threads for its wide toe box and great feel. They are pleasantly light for all of the sole and tread and breathe really well. They handled the damp wonderfully. Comfort and capability in one package. Amazing value.

I was walking up a hill earlier today and reflecting on how comfortable these Moab 3 hiking shoes are, so I came home and started writing this review. I bought my shoes in May 2023, so I've been wearing them a few months now. I don't hike the longer trails anymore because the hubs and I can't do them, and I've permanently retired my old hardcore hiking shoes. The Moab 3s been wonderful for the short hikes and walks that I take nowadays, plus I've worn them shopping and during day trips. I'm an older obese woman with big wide feet who lands on the outer edges of her feet/heels when she walks, and these shoes have provided excellent support for urban walks and short hikes on groomed gravel trails. When I return home, my feet feel great and don't have blisters or feel ... MoreI was walking up a hill earlier today and reflecting on how comfortable these Moab 3 hiking shoes are, so I came home and started writing this review. I have completed one 6 km walk wearing my new lo-top Merrell Moab 3 shoes. The Pros:These shoes have excellent grip with their coarse-lug Vibram soles. The size is a good match for my 10½W foot size, so ordering online worked out. The shoes are slightly wider and longer than my `regular’ 10½W shoes, but this works well given the thicker socks that I tend to wear while hiking. The Cons:The outsole and midsole are sufficiently thin that I can feel the individual lugs of the Vibram sole pressing against the sole of my foot. I would not have imagined that this was possible. These are early days, but for the moment, this sensation is quite distracting while walking. I expected blisters or corns and calluses to develop, but they have not appeared so far.The sides of ... MoreI have completed one 6 km walk wearing my new lo-top Merrell Moab 3 shoes. The Pros:These shoes have excellent grip with their coarse-lug Vibram soles. The size is a good match for my 10½W foot size, so ordering online worked out. I would not have imagined that this was possible. These are early days, but for the moment, this sensation is quite distracting while walking. I expected blisters or corns and calluses to develop, but they have not appeared so far.The sides of the shoe are also thinner than expected, so there is no significant lateral support. This is not a problem while walking on level ground or pavement, but it could be painful or even dangerous if attempting to hike on even slightly uneven ground / trails.
I am so sad but these do not work for me. I tried these out on a few day hikes (without any blisters; easy to break in) before taking them on a Grand Canyon backpacking trip. I even replaced the insoles with something more cushy. On my first day climbing down the canyon, my arches were killing me. At first I figured it was just because of the steep descent, but later I took them on a 6.5 mile hike in upstate NY, climbing up steep rocks with a 1400 ft elevation gain. By the time the trail leveled back out, the undersides of my toes were in tons of pain. It feels like the bottom of the shoe is pushing up on the bottom of my toes, and there is no give even with a different insole. Overall I think they are too stiff for me and I need more flexibility and cushioning. I ... MoreI am so sad but these do not work for me. I use them as an all-around shoe both for hiking and heavy yard work. Ordered a half-size large and that fits perfectly. Leave the top lace a bit lose and they slip on/off easily. Plenty of support on the trail so long as its fairly even and ankle support isn't neccessary. Very comfortable and cool. Also seem rugged but time will tell.Only complaint is water goes right through them and they don't dry quickly. A few minutes walking through wet grass and your toes will be wet. Had to be a bit careful while paddling since they're not really made for pulling a canoe over a beaver a dam. Other than that, highly reccommended. I'd buy them again.
After years, I finally wore out my old Moab hiking shoes! They had been to the Grand Canyon many times and tons of our rocky trails in Arizona. I just purchased another pair and they continue to amaze me on how reliable they are for hikes stretching over 17 hours a day! If you have serious hiking to do, don’t get the flimsy soles that other companies try to sell you because they are lighter. That is silly. You need the Moab that can go over the roughest terrain out there and will prevent you from paying for hiking shoes every 6 months, choose these instead. You will love them! I hope they continue to keep this shoe available to the hiking community!
First of all, I love Merrells. I have had many different shoes from them over the years. I bought this style about 10 years back and I loved them and wore them everywhere until there was nothing left! I bought the same style about 3 months ago in the medium width as my new replacement. Unfortunately they feel so wide, and the insole really does not feel adequate. The length feels just alright, maybe even a quarter size larger than my previous pair in the same size. I have tried new insoles to fill up the dead space, but I have even resorted to wearing two pairs of socks... Im disappointed and I'm worried that it could cause an injury down the road.
Heads-up: good shoe BUT the black outside rubber base of the Vibram sole is in fact WHITE internally! It's a white rubber base covered with black rubber layer which is very thin, so normal dents from a hike do reveal ugly WHITE spots! very annoying when such a white spot suddenly shows up on the shoe toe side, right in front where you and everyone can clearly see it! That WHITE inner rubber material cannot even be painted black over again because, well, it's a rubber! Sorry but it's a shame such an otherwise nice, premium shoe could not have its sole made from a monolith chunk of black rubber, like my older shoes, instead of this white wrapped in black kind of pie.. It's a month old Beluga style my second pair of Moabs. No other issues so far.
*pretty worm (i am from an hot state)* runs small so size up a half or a full size* if ur short they are great and addes about 3-4 cm* great durable metatrailsi bought the Moab 3 gore tex about 2 months ago, as a fashionable 15 year old with about 6 sneakers i was afraid that those hiking "dad" shoes wont look good. i can say that's isn't true, they're comfy, great material for hikes as well as an everyday shoe, great look and chunky that goes well with baggy clothes.they are a very good looking shoe with a build that u can count on and stable will still adding 4 cm rise in height witch really helps as a average Height teen.
