I bought these for a hiking trip to the North Carolina mountains and the performed beautifully! Lots of arch support, lightweight and flexible. They clean up great after a dirty hike and look adorable for casual wear. I bought my regular size and they still comfortably allow for a heavy sock. Great value, too!

Out of the box, these shoes fit perfectly, and felt great on my very first sojourn. They keep my feet dry on rainy hikes/walks. The ONLY reason I gave a four star instead of a five is because I often have to retie the laces along the way to tighten them. And oh, I got an amazing almost 50% off deal on these comfortable waterproof shoes ... I just happened to time my online searching on the Merrell website and found a sale. Third pair of Merrells that are a perfect fit for various types of trails.

I stopped wearing Merrells when they discontinued the original and best Moab Ventilator. Merrells are typically not for wide feet, but the Moab was perfect. On a whim, i tried them on in a shoe store and miraculously, they fit perfectly. I have had these for a few weeks and am so happy with the immediate -no-break-in fit. They are great for trail or sidewalk, surprisingly lightweight but sturdy, perfect for a wide fit and true to size. Planning to get a second pair before they disappear.

So far so good. I purchased a pair of these a year ago and they squeaked, thankfully an online shoe company took them back. I reordered them this year in gray (storm) and no squeaking. They were a bit rigid to begin with so I am breaking them in slowly just doing walks less than 2 miles. I like the gray color but thought that with the light aqua blue as shoe accents they should've had the same color laces instead of gray. I ordered a Siren Sport 3 earlier hoping it would be the great shoe it was in the past but there was a sizing issue, the 8, which is my normal Merrell size was too small and the 8.5 was too big - how can that be? So returned both sizes sadly and bought these. I use my shoes for walking dogs and light hiking. I live in the desert so a lightweight ... MoreSo far so good. I live in the desert so a lightweight hiker is a must and I always feel more stable on my feet with a vibram sole.
These hiking shoes were comfortable out of the box. Usually wear sz 8 or 8.5. Went with 8.5. Already worn for a few good walks. I have a narrower foot so the shoe is roomy in the width and can be worn with a thick sock. I can snug up the laces which keeps my heels in place. They are cushioned better than my high end runner. The only small issue I have, is that one shoe seems shaped slightly off by the big toe compared to the other. Occasionally feels like it presses/rubs on the outside corner beside my big toenail. Luckily, it's not a significant problem. I'm hoping that the shoe will relax a bit and fix the problem.
4.5 These are lighter weight than my Moab’s and do have more ventilation to keep my feet from overheating in summer which is important for me because in summer here it’s not unusual to have temperatures in the 100s - but as other reviews have noted there is less cushioning in the soles. I use custom orthotics which solved the problem for me, but others might want to use a shock absorbent insole. With the right insole, these are very comfortable, roomy toe box and great traction, very stable. They will be great for summer hikes. I really like the color - brown /neutral with pink. These were a great deal on sale.
I just wore these shoes for the first time on a 6 mile trail hike and they performed well. I typically wear a 7.5 M and I found that the shoe was slightly wide and ran slightly big from other 7.5 M sized shoes I own (I ordered these online). I will have to really work at adjusting the laces and purchase thicker hiking socks to make them fit better; but, overall a good sturdy shoe with good arch support. I would recommend to people who don't like high ankle hiking shoes but still want some support.
4.5 - these are lighter weight than my Moabs and seem to have less padding. That’s a plus for hot weather as they do have ventilation which helps keep my feet from overheating but they also have less cushioning in the soles as other reviews have noted. For me this was resolved when I put my orthotics in and they are great now. Others may want to use more cushioned insoles such as for athletic shoes. However with the sale price they are still a very good deal :) These are very stable with a wide toe box and good traction. They were a bit stiff at first but within a few days they were fine. These will be great for summer hikes. I really like the brown neutral color with the pink.
These worked for me after I changed the insoles. I have slender feet and a low arch. The arch on these shoes was way too high for me. I replaced the insoles with BLUE Superfeet insoles that I found for a good price on backcountry. I took these shoes on a one week trip to Colorado and they served me well. I do recommend you don’t wear this on smooth tile, for some reason the are slippery on smooth tile but they did well on hikes. I’ve attached a photo I took of my shoe on accident.
I bought these hiking shoes about a month ago. I have worn them on my walks at around my neighborhood to “break them” before going camping and hiking. They fit well and are very comfortable from the get go so really no need to break them in! They supported my feet/ankles nicely but haven’t gotten a chance yet to report on traction over rocky terrain.
