Metabones Canon EF to EOS M T Mount Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x
The latest member of its award-winning Speed Booster family of DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) to mirrorless lens mount adapters, EF-EOS M Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x. Full-frame Canon EF-mount lenses are now one stop faster, 0.71x wider and with increased MFT (note 1) on Canon EOS M cameras. The 4k/UHD video crop on EOS M50 can also be mitigated with third-party APS-C lenses using this Metabones Speed Booster. Some Canon EF-S lenses may be modified to fit on the Speed Booster but Metabones cannot be held liable for any issues arising from modifications. Using APS-C lenses with Speed Booster for still photography or full HD videography may result in vignetting. Ever since the first Speed Booster was introduced, there have been DIY attempts to modify it to fit EOS M cameras. The turnkey solution Metabones now offers adds a number of refinements: The optical housing is redesigned for perfect fit on EOS M.The EXIF metadata is changed to reflect the faster aperture (note 2) and shorter focal length. The autofocus speed of the lens is adjusted and optimized for the change in focal length and aperture to ensure the best performance. This is especially important for dual-pixel autofocus (DPAF) in video mode.A 'chip' mode is added so that the user may store the metadata of a fully mechanical manual lens in the adapter.A LED indicates operational status of the Speed Booster. Since both the lens and the camera speak the same protocol most features are supported with the exception of lens aberration correction, which is automatically turned off.

Having already bought the Canon EF to MFT version of the product and been highly impressed with the quality of the results on my G9, I was wondering if the Canon EF-RF version would work with my recently acquired R7, as the information on both the CVP and Metabones sites were not advocating its use for still photography, largely because at the time of writing an RF cropped sensor camera didn't exist I guessed. After contact with CVP, I was convinced that it would, and it does. The usual advertised benefit of using a crop sensor is increasing the effective focal length and hence reach, generally in the context of shooting wildlife, which is great, but I have a 24mm f/1.4 Sigma Art and other short focal length lenses that I wanted to use at the effective native ... MoreHaving already bought the Canon EF to MFT version of the product and been highly impressed with the quality of the results on my G9, I was wondering if the Canon EF-RF version would work with my recently acquired R7, as the information on both the CVP and Metabones sites were not advocating its use for still photography, largely because at the time of writing an RF cropped sensor camera didn't exist I guessed. This speed booster met the requirement with the bonus of an additional f-stop for low light conditions. It works great with my Canon and Sigma lenses with autofocus behaving far better than the MFT equivalent. The only word of caution and this is the same on the MFT version is that infinity is almost, but no quite, at the physical end stop of the lenses. Clearly this is not a problem as focusing at infinity wide open at the equivalent of f/1.0 still yields sharp images.Build quality, in my opinion, is superb and the mini tripod foot is a bonus. The little flashing LED on the adapter provides an indication of when the camera is talking to the lens, and hence when its gone to sleep. I have notice no degradation in battery life either.

Not much information on this yet online, so I went off the specs and knowing that Metabones makes amazing speedboosters; I have one for the BMPCC4k.Very satisfied with this one for the EOS R, all of my lenses work perfectly in 4k video mode, including a 16-35 2.8 Canon L ii, 18-35 Sigma, 100mm L, 24-105 F4 L, etc. No issues or vignetting during 4k video, but of course in picture mode you'll get vignetting, so this is a video speedbooster mainly.Getting an extra stop of light is huge, too. Very happy about that and presents itself as useful as a new lens.Build quality is stellar, but the lens doesn't have the same satisfying click as on the original canon adapter, but it's in there securely regardless.

I know Canon has moved on with its R series presenting new 4K options, but if you still have the original R which still shoots beautiful 4K, this is a game changer. I've used it for years and never had an issue. The ability to get the full frame effect of your EF lenses and a stop of light is extremely useful. Well worth the price.

I tested a 50/f1.4, 50/f1.2, 24-105/f4, 28-135/f3.5-5.6, 85/f1.8, 35/f2, 24-70/f2.8, 70-200/f2.8, and Tamron 150-600/f5-6.3. Autofocus works just was well on my M50 with the Speedbooster as the lenses did without it. Actually, most seem faster, maybe because the speedboosted image is brighter. AF, IS...you won't even know the speedbooster is there.More lenses to test, but these I've tried so far functioned as advertised, were reasonably sharp to the corners, and most vignetting, distortion, and CA could be fixed by Adobe Camera RAW lens fix just as they could without the Speedbooster. ACR did not detect the underlying lens, but the actual lens could be selected and then ACR lens correction functioned properly.Data reported to Adobe Bridge varied, with the usual ... MoreI tested a 50/f1.4, 50/f1.2, 24-105/f4, 28-135/f3.5-5.6, 85/f1.8, 35/f2, 24-70/f2.8, 70-200/f2.8, and Tamron 150-600/f5-6.3. ACR did not detect the underlying lens, but the actual lens could be selected and then ACR lens correction functioned properly.Data reported to Adobe Bridge varied, with the usual being focal lengths shown as the actual x .71 (24-105 shows up as 17-74.). Max apertures were all one stop faster, and show up that way in the camera and in Bridge--except for the 50/1.2 which shows its original apertures (Metabones will not report apertures under 1.0 so as to avoid errors in cameras and software, so the 50/1.2, which would be f0.85 shows as 1.2.) The 50 1.4, and all lenses of F1.4 or slower, though is reported as 1 stop faster. All in all, the quality seems good enough and brings new utility some old lenses, and new ones too.If you have a Canon mirrorless and a bunch of full frame EF lenses, this could be useful, and it's less expensive than Metabones' other Speedboosters. And really, haven't you always wanted a 50mm F1.0?
Great for super 35mm. Pity it doesnt communicate with many lenses and heavy and most lenses wobble a bit. But despite this (at a good used price without clear glass parts) its fantastic! Check the firmware hasnt been messed up as soon as you get it, mine wont update but still happy.
First off; top-notch service as usual from Lensrentals. I tried the adapter on my EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS Mk III and EF 500mm f4 L IS Mk II with mixed results. One-shot AF worked great but the Servo AF was hit or miss with my R6 Mk II and my R7 for sports (night lacrosse, baseball, softball). Could have been user error, so YMMV...:).
Works well even with some older EF lenses, and some Sigma EF. Is it perfect?!? Well, nothing is. But this is very good, with stable focus, good stable focus, and excellent face focus--and love that extra stop of light, for sure. One serious issue, however. The attachment on the adapter than enables mounting on the tripod is too short. So, the camera won't set level on the Tripod . A longer attachment is needed---an easy fix. I removed the attachment on my adapter---so I can at least mount it using the camera screw mount.Metabones ought to send an replacement attachment that is about 5mm longer. Then the attachment would be useful.
Using Metabones Speed Booster is the absolute, legit way of magic tricking the whole game in photography. This now allows you to enhance your lenses, adding to them so much more value. It effectively makes your lens wider and speedier (brighter) and if used on a APS-C crop factor camera, this will increase from 1.5x to 1.07x. This is nearly full frame! It allows you to increase 1 f-stop of your current lens maximum f number. As an instance f/4 becomes f/2.8 (as closest to 3). Following this logic try guess what happens when you mount your f/1.8 lens? That's right - an incredible f/1.0, which is the most wide-opened aperture you will get in a lens. The bouquet produced will be then with no comparison. Botton line I'd use Metabones Speed Booster any time I can as well ... MoreUsing Metabones Speed Booster is the absolute, legit way of magic tricking the whole game in photography. I love both the concept and execution of the Metabones Speedbooster. It works as promised- great image quality while increasing the lens speed and FOV. Autofocus and stabilization translate flawlessly. EF-S lenses do not fully cover an APS-C sensor and are unusable with this adapter. If you're on the fence about the Metabones vs Viltrox and other more affordable speed boosters, look into reviews. Yes, the less expensive versions work and boost as advertised, but the image quality you get from them- the fine details, contrast and color- all suffer from what I can tell.My only small complaint is that the image seems to be more prone to light flares. They pop up at more angles and I believe they are a byproduct of the special optics in the adapter. Hopefully if they ... MoreI love both the concept and execution of the Metabones Speedbooster. Hopefully if they are unavoidable, you can work them into your shots or I'd suggest using your lens' hood. I would subtract a half star for this, but opted for the 5 since you cant rate by halves. Great product!!
Having the crop 4K mode on the EOS R reminded me of doing photography with a crop body that really limited on the selection of quality wide-angle lenses. My Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC lens at around 61mm can be a bit tight in shooting video so when I saw this adapter come back in stock, I jumped on it, and glad I did!And yes, I can see on my screen that my 35mm f/1.8 Max now reads as wide as f/1.2! Holy moly the bokeh is even more beautiful going from focusing on a front object to the background. The fit is fine; it's nice and tight and somehow was a perfect fit even with my SmallRig cage for the EOS R. The bottom shoe which I didn't take off barely cleared the surface of the cage. The 35mm lens at 43mm is absolutely awesome. Even better, I can gain f/0.9 which is huge in certain situations allowing me to reduce noise when the lighting condition is not ideal.Yes, it's a little pricey but in a lot of ways, this adapter is a must. If you strictly shoot videos, I would skip the regular Canon EOS EF to RF adapter. I'll obviously keep mine for now as the regular adapter can act as a teleconverter in a sense if I need a hint of reach.
