Microplane - Artisan Fine Grater Red

This is my second Artisan Ribbon Cheese Grater. my first one has lasted me for years and years but I figured as much as I use it, It still works ok but is bound to be getting dull. The new one is super sharp. I use it mostly on garlic rather than mince it in recipes. Fast, efficient and easy to use.

I love how the Microplane turns out thin threads of whatever I’m grating. No more uneven zesting! No more pith in the mix! I’ve had one for years, and just bought one for each of my daughters!

A KITCHEN GEM

I recently purchased not only the FINE Microplane Artisan Grater, but the complete set of these graters. They are of GREAT QUALITY, (typical of items for sale by kitchen warehouse). so EASY to clean, SHARP, EASY to handle and take up so little space. Lemons, Oranges, Ginger, Chocolate are what I used this one at the moment - Must have in every kitchen. GO FOR IT you can't go wrong with not only of these, but the set.

Best Grater I Have Owned

Never saw a ribbon grater before. This thing shreds cheese while moving it backward or forward. The fastest and easiest garlic grater. Seconds is all it takes and the resulting fine grind of garlic is delicious. Only if you are very forceful against the blade could you cut yourself. Very easy to clean too. No clogged openings. Wipes clean with a cloth and then just rinse with the sprayer for a ready to store utensil. LOVE IT.

Butter Curls

I got this primarily for grating sticks of butter, A tub full (4 sticks) lasts a month or so and the curls go on without criminalizing the toast. Cold butter is hard. Cheap graters are not sharp and cheap plastic breaks. Microplane is by far the best brand. This extra coarse type is my favorite. I have had it a long time & it it just like new still. I do put it in the dishwasher. It gets used for a lot of other things too - carrots, cheese, cabbage, onions. Lesser brands are inferior - been there done that.

Excellent Kitchen Tool

This is a wonderful tool that we use to make lemon and orange zest from fruit and to grate parmesan cheese into nearly powder fine! So easy to use. We have had one for several years and have purchased others for gifts. The Microplane is sharp and dishwasher safe. There is no need to disassemble anything prior to cleaning, and it comes with a detachable safety shield when not in use. For $10.00 you will not find a better deal. Don't spend extra money when you do not need to ! Highly recommended.

Whilst out shopping with the Mrs., I noted her frustration in attempting to locate a decent zester type of kitchen aid. She needed to zest to citrus for a couple of recipe's and went away less than happy from our local stores. I went home and found this tool here on the Bay and had it in a few days. I showed her the thing and we tried it out and I must say its was money well spent. It removes the fruit zest with ease and is just the right size to be manageable in the doing.

Microplane Artisan Series Fine Grater

Everyone in life needs more than one greater to be a great cook. This grater is the perfect tool for when you want to top your pasta with a pile of beautiful Reggiano cheese. The handle is made of a soft, grippable material and because the grater is red in colour it is so easy to find in the kitchen draw that is jammed with other tools of the trade. I also like to use this grater for dark chocolate. This grater is made in the good old USA and is of a high quality - so easy to rinse and pop back into the drawer and not like my old grater which went rusty.

Slick!

I don't know how sturdy it'll be over the long run - the grating surface seems delicate, but the protective cover seems quite sturdy. I'm reviewing this in contrast to my previous lemon-zester, which was part of a "tool set." It was a piece of plastic covered with little pointed plastic bumps, which actually wore off after about a dozen lemons!! This grater shaves off delicate, millimeter-wide ribbons of lemon zest with hardly any effort. The handle and frame are sturdy, and since you don't want to push hard when zesting a lemon, anyway, for fear of getting the white, bitter 'pith,' probably the grating surface will actually stand up to a lot of use. The handle could be just a little longer, but I have rather large hands; it's perfectly comfortable to use.
