I was lucky enough to test the Xbox Series X with a brand-new $1,400 LG CX TV designed to run games at 120 Hz. That means the TV is refreshing as fast as the console can spit out frames. That’s what makes everything so silky-smooth and hyperreal. Many 4K TVs can't do this. A lot of them cap out at 60 Hz. So to get the most out of the Series X and its capabilities you’ll need not only a 4K TV, but a TV that can run games at 120 Hz. There aren’t very many of those on the market right now, and they’re very expensive. Especially when you can snag otherwise excellent 4K TVs for less than $700. Another way to look at it is through the lens of future proofing. Console generations seem to last about seven years now. Chances are you’ll have at least one big TV purchase ... MoreI was lucky enough to test the Xbox Series X with a brand-new $1,400 LG CX TV designed to run games at 120 Hz. Chances are you’ll have at least one big TV purchase sometime in the next few years, right? That’s a charitable interpretation but it seems to be Microsoft's strategy. When I tested the Series X on a standard 4K TV, games were richly detailed and performed well—there’s no doubt there. Even Xbox One titles like Gears 5 felt slicker and looked sharper. The graphics don't feel like they've bumped up as much as the generational leaps we’ve come to expect from these kinds of console releases. The improvements are still subtle at this point. Lighting does look more realistic and everything has a modern sheen to it, but these improvements don’t have the same effect on TVs running at less than 120 Hz.

Microsoft’s Xobox Series X Is truly the most powerful Xbox there is. With the series x you get 4k gaming which is truly an amazing gaming experience with vivid detail and color and up to 120 fps and 8k hdr. Loading times are lightning fast and cut down, quick resume is a breeze when switching titles and resuming where you left off and thanks to 120 gps while gaming you will truly love the experience all thanks to the power of Xbox velocity architecture. The details with 4k is impeccable especially when it comes to the characters, vehicles, worlds and attention to detail. Another great thing about the series x is that it is backwards compatible meaning that you are able to play thousands of games from earlier models as well. It also comes with one controller to get you started and there are many more to choose from to add to your collection as well. The fact that it has 1TB of storage plus the option to add more storage brings your gaming to a whole new level. Get gaming! I highly recommend this console!

The best news though after installing it is that you get to login offline on this thing, which was ridiculously missing from the Xbox One.Graphically, the console currently sits in the same boat the PS5 sits in, where the graphics are not going to look like much of an improvement to the naked eye when compared to the Xbox One and PS4. However, with a few years passed at this point, the console’s capabilities are becoming more apparent. While still not a huge upgrade in graphics, the little graphical details and just the overall performance of the larger games are much better and it does feel like you get more bang for your buck (at least from developers that actually try). The console is also vastly superior when playing later Xbox One and PS4 games that hit brick walls with those consoles hardware. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2, which was a frame rate nightmare at times runs beautifully on the Series X.With that said, there’s still are some rather glaring flaws. The Series X’s interface is disappointingly unchanged. This means that it is still very easy to get lost with the menus on this thing. The fact that they didn’t take the time to update it is stunning. You also have to update your controller when the console first installs, which is bizarre. Also, there’s still no Blu-Ray player on this thing upon installation. You still need to install it separately online. The fact that this $500 piece of hardware can’t play blu-ray or DVD’s by default is insulting. So overall, a huge improvement over the Xbox One. It still isn’t a five star console due to lacking a bit of user-friendliness but there’s no problem with saying you own a Microsoft console this time around.

I bought this Xbox Series X as an upgrade for myself and was so amazed by it, I ended up buying a second one for my wife not long after. My wife and I enjoy gaming together, but prefer separate screens for a better view, so being we both had an Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, it is only fitting to grab the Series X and continue to legacy. We were very big in to Call of Duty, Halo, Ghost Recon and GTA on the previous consoles and simply playing on the Xbox one compared to this is definitely noticeable and impressive. GTA 5 would normally take about 5-20 mins to get into the game, not even online but the actual loading screen and with the Xbox Series X it's like a miracle! As soon as I click the game icon it's loaded in less than 60 seconds most times and then going into the online mode and not much longer (playing on the Xbox One version of the game via Series X console). COD and Halo load very fast and graphics on all the games look 20x better.I grew up in the NES, SNES, Sega and PS1 days where I am used to the old school graphics, but I am spoiled with how games look these days that I don't want to go back. Even Goldeneye from Gamepass looks better than it did on the N64, and that's saying something since those were the epic gaming days.Go grab yourself a Series X, you won't regret it! (And grab a spare memory card... didn't think I'd have to say that these days, but seems like they're coming back in style... just a lot pricier; however, much needed if you plan to store a lot of playable games)
The xbox series x, is a great console. I also own a PS5. If I had to choose only one, it would be an easy decision for myself. For those on the fence, here are a few observations/personal opinions on the matter.Performance - Draw. I think most console gamers would agree, the performance is comparable.Controllers - The touch pad on the PS5 controller gives it a slight edge. I personally prefer the xbox stick/button orientation, but that's purely a personal preference. They both feel good in-hand.OS/UX - The xbox user experience is much more intuitive in my opinion. MS has been in the software game MUCH longer than Sony and it shows.Exclusives - PS5 is the winner in this department, as MS has stepped back from "exclusive" titles.Backwards compatibility - ... MoreThe xbox series x, is a great console. If you're invested in the platform over several console generations, the xbox is the clear winner.Gamepass is a major selling point for the xbox platform!. I have the equivalent service on my PS5, and I hardly use it.Family management - XBOX! Sony's approach is janky, cumbersome and frustrating to use. If you have kids, or multiple xbox consoles in your home, xbox is the winner.
TLDR; Great system, love the backwards compatibility. I have got hours of fun out of it and would buy it again. Future is shaky, but what is here is pretty good.Graphics - Image quality in most cases is very good. Framerate in most games is also very good, usually 60 FPS. There are a few games that are locked to 30 FPS, but those are very few and far between. There is a trade-off in some games where if you want the sharper graphics, you will need to deal with 30 FPS. Or if you want the smoother gameplay of 60 FPS, you end up with an image that is fuzzier or in some cases down right blurry.Library - Very good library of backwards compatible games, some of which even receive resolution or FPS boosts or both. Most current gen third party games are also on Xbox. The downside is exclusives. Xbox does not have a lot of exclusives outside of Halo / Forza / Gears. And they are not receiving the Sony exclusives in the foreseeable future. You would do well to make a list of games you want to play and make sure none of them are Sony exclusives.Controller - Great upgrade over the Xbox One version. Very comfortable. Not as big of a leap as the PS5 Dualsense controller (that one really feels next gen). The battery life is amazing, especially if you get a charging stand and a battery pack.Audio - No complaints, although I am not great at rating sound. It outputs to the TV and it sounds good, not sure what else to say lol.Storage - 1TB in 2024 is a little on the small side. You will need an external SSD or an expansion card. I would suggest 2TB for either. Also, the external option will only play Xbox One, 360, and Original games. The expansion card will play all games.Online Play - You need Gamepass Core to play online (with a few exceptions for free games like Fortnite, Roblox, Apex, etc). I think it's around $60 per year. Gamepass Ultimate is pretty nice if you play a lot of games or you would like to try out Cloud gaming on your tablet / phone / laptop. You also get a lot of new releases like Indiana Jones and Call of Duty day one at no extra cost, which is a nice perk. The Future? - Xbox seems to be in a transition period right now. Their current offerings and the console itself are very good. I will say that Xbox does not seem very clear on what it wants to do in the future or how it will successfully execute whatever vision they may have. That may not matter to you in the long run, but it is something to consider. Conclusion - This is a solid console that will provide hours of fun and good value through Gamepass. The somewhat uncertain future and lack of a clear direction from Microsoft does make the console look a little less compelling, to the point that I felt the need to take one star off of what should be a 5-star system. I would still recommend it to a friend as it represents a good long term value combined with Gamepass. Just maybe hold off on building up a big library until Xbox clearly communicates their future plans.
I recently upgraded from my Xbox One S to the Xbox Series X during the holiday season sales, and I’m absolutely thrilled with it!The loading times are insane games load in half the time compared to the One S, which is fantastic for quick play sessions. With limited time to game, being able to jump straight into a favorite title makes a big difference. The Quick Resume feature is a game-changer and doesn’t get enough credit. If you’re playing Forza and decide to switch to Call of Duty, Quick Resume lets you instantly pick up where you left off, skipping long loading screens. Later, you can switch back to Forza and find yourself on the same street, right where you left off.The Series X’s 1TB SSD is more than enough for my family of four, who all have different ... MoreI recently upgraded from my Xbox One S to the Xbox Series X during the holiday season sales, and I’m absolutely thrilled with it!The loading times are insane games load in half the time compared to the One S, which is fantastic for quick play sessions. Later, you can switch back to Forza and find yourself on the same street, right where you left off.The Series X’s 1TB SSD is more than enough for my family of four, who all have different game preferences. We have 12 games installed, including larger titles like Call of Duty (147GB) and Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport (both around 140GB each), along with smaller games like Fortnite and Rocket League. Even with all these, we still have 41GB of space left! The performance is incredible. With 16GB of RAM and the ability to play games at 4K 120fps, the graphics are stunning, and I haven’t experienced a single lag while playing titles that sometimes lagged on the One S. Games like Call of Duty run at 4K 120fps without a hitch, and the console stays whisper-quiet; I haven’t heard the fan once. I even bought a 4K 120Hz TV just for the Series X, and the difference is night and day 60Hz feels slow in comparison. The value you get at this price point is hard to believe; I paid about $450, and it feels like a total steal. The design is simple and discreet, which I love. Unlike the PS5, which can be hard to hide, the Xbox blends seamlessly into a TV setup and looks good wherever you place it. I appreciate that Xbox keeps things straightforward just unbox, set up, and start playing. And I can’t overlook the controller, which is super comfortable, especially for long gaming sessions.Overall, I would recommend the Series S for anyone that does not care about performance and just want to play the games and a Series X for anyone that thinks twice about wanting to take advantage of the higher resolutions of the Series X
This would be a 5 star review aside from the simple fact that this Xbox came with a cockroach. I’ve lived in this house for 5 years now and never seen a cockroach till this package came into my living room . Fortunately I was able to catch this cockroach….hopefully it’s only one. This is really more of a burden than anything. I honestly wish I didn’t get the Xbox because of this hitchhiker. Be careful when receiving a package from them.Aside from the Xbox, this console has amazing clean graphics. The console runs smoothly, meaning it’s quiet. You don’t even notice it’s on! I don’t have the best internet but it allows a smooth online play experience. Even with the size of it, due to the shape it is quite convenient to put on a shelf without it being too bulky. If your one to put down a controller and forgetting to turn it off, the controller will turn itself off automatically. Which will help you avoid to changing the batteries too often. Keep in mind this doesn’t come with double AA rechargeable batteries; you will have to buy that separately. Also, you will need to buy a USB C cord to plug into the Xbox if you don’t have batteries. Overall aside from the cockroach I love this thing. Hopefully soon I will be able to enjoy it without worrying about a creepy crawling bug being near me…
I’ve been an Xbox fan since the 360 days and I have been disappointed by them in recent years. The Series X is certainly a powerful console for the price, but the games, UI and overall feel of the console leave a lot to be desired. Nowadays, I would definitely recommend a Gaming PC if you can afford it. The overall gaming experience is much superior and the Xbox app is on PC allowing you to play Gamepass and use party chat. Getting a gaming PC reignited my interest in gaming, after years of disinterest on Xbox. If you can’t quite afford a PC, the other consoles will likely give you a better experience. PS5 has better exclusives like Helldivers, Spiderman, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and more. Switch, while not being anywhere near as powerful, is a great choice for casual gamers and has a lot of great first party games like Mario and Zelda. Being able to use it in handheld is a huge feature that makes it easy to play in bed or on the go. Finally, Steam Deck is an awesome product that allows you to play PC games on the go, similar to Switch. The library is huge and it is highly customizable.Overall, Xbox Series X would not be my first recommendation to anyone looking to get a gaming machine. It is outclassed by nearly all its competitors and anything it has going for it, mainly Gamepass, is available on PC. Xbox has not had any interesting exclusive games in a while. I know there are some cool low budget games like Pentiment, but their big exclusives have all been flops. I was excited for Starfield, Halo Infinite, and Gears only to be disappointed by all of them. I got my first Xbox because of games like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Fable, etc. and there is really nothing like those games on Xbox series. They have so many talented developers so I hope they can turn their games division around. Unless all your friends have Xbox, I’d recommend another gaming system.
As a long time gamer and former owner of an Xbox series x and current owner of a Ps5 I have to say that this might just be the best console Microsoft has ever made. Imo it's also the better console for longterm reliability and for those who are concerned about owning your physical media instead of going all digital. I sold my xbox series x a few months ago due to a very busy schedule and lack of use and decided to go with my Ps5 exclusively for my gaming needs. Big mistake. I found out a few weeks later that my Ps5 which I had not used for a few months had a failed blueray drive. It still played digital games just fine but considering that most of my Ps5 games were on disc I was pretty upset. I had my Ps5 in a well ventilated area and took extremely good care of it. ... MoreAs a long time gamer and former owner of an Xbox series x and current owner of a Ps5 I have to say that this might just be the best console Microsoft has ever made. I then discovered from online forums and from talking with a repair shop that this was actually a common issue with those who had early versions of the Ps5 like mine. I ended up paying over $200 to fix it and it's working again but I couldn't help but notice that during the entire 1.5 years that I owned my series x it never had any blueray drive hiccups. And yes I do remember the red ring of death issues that Xbox consoles went through in the past. Microsoft has clearly learned from their hardware mistakes in the past. I also noticed that Sony recently discontinued the original Ps5 that I had and released a new Ps5 with a separate blueray drive add on that had software constraints giving them full control of the blueray drive. My series x never had any issues at all with its disc drive and it's still being sold with the blue ray drive built in. There has also been a recent shift toward digital formats for so much home entertainment that I feel we have forgotten how this takes away ownership of our products from us. From older movies and streaming platforms to music and now games we have allowed digital ownership to take over our lives and imo we have forgotten that when you have things in a digital format you oftentimes don't truly own that product. On several occasions over the past few years companies have decided to remove access or ownership to certain movies or games due to expiring licenses or some other reason. The most recent incident in my mind was when Sony was about to cut off access to digital purchases of discovery entertainment content a few months ago. After a huge outcry they changed their mind but I couldn't help but notice how Sony and even now Microsoft are starting to try and force consumers away from physical media. Apparently Microsoft may announce a new Xbox very soon (maybe even today!?) that will be all digital and then discontinue the current series x. I'm actually writing this review because I just repurchased a series x today. For one thing I saw the price just dropped to $399. I also know from experience this console might end up being the last great console that has a reliable disc drive that will let me play and own my physical media library. If so I would suggest to gamers and those who care about owning your games and movies to pick up a disc drive series x in the near future while you still can. If anything it will send a message to companies that consumers still care about owning their physical media as opposed to paying for a license to stream it.
