Milwaukee has been my brand of choice for many years and I felt I should share my experience. Perhaps it will give others pause and really consider their choice more carefully than I did. Getting the batteries off the tools is very easy for me since arthritis has begun to set in and the reason I switched from Makita years ago (their new battery design is much better). I still enjoy using my Gen 1 2604 Hammer Drill. It was just about right albeit a little under powered for some tasks. Works so much better with a Röhm chuck replacement! Bought this Gen 4 drill and the impact, not happy overall. The power is nice but they are way too noisy. It actually hurts to run them without hearing protection. User experience is terrible in my opinion. Over the last two years I have purchased Festool products, call me spoiled but, the saws are superb, the CSX is a wonderful installation drill. I'll keep the Milwaukee but I'm done with Chinese products. It's my last Milwaukee purchase although I have enjoyed the deep platform. Much better choices out there and Milwaukee better wake up if they plan to continue to compete. Raw power is not the answer. More is just more and there is a point it becomes not useful. I need a drill with good power, range and control not a racehorse or a bucking bronco! These drills will be the last I grab and will not get used often, only for bigger tasks. Now, I'm planning to purchase either the Festool TPC 18/4 since I have all the chucks from my C18 that will fit or the Metabo LTX-3 once the new version with anti-kickback is available (perhaps later this year). They are much more versatile options with great ergonomics but come at a hefty price. The TPC 18/4 is a little under powered for my needs but I'm already on the platform and will keep these Milwaukee drills. The Metabo is a much better choice in my opinion although it's yet another battery platform. However, they are part of CAS (Cordless Alliance System) and hopefully more brands will start participating. (Milwaukee are you listening? Come up with an adapter!) I'll be able to do everything I need with the inner-changeable chucks with either. Let me suggest checking out the shootout videos on the web. These Milwaukee drills are way too loud, whiny and unmanageable. Ergonomics is very important and that includes saving our hearing! I'm sorry to say that Milwaukee has lost me as a longtime customer.

My 20+ year old Ridgid 1/2" hammer drill finally had to be retired. I really love my M12 FUEL drill, so I figured the M18 FUEL Hammer Drill would be a good replacement and upgrade for the Ridgid. There is no comparison, the M18 FUEL is nearly half the size, but more than twice the power. The torque release when the drill catchs is fantastic, no more torquing your wrist off. I am super happy with this drill and looking forward to another 20+ years

Sorry guys, just can't give that favorable of a review of this new drill. I'm not going to bash Milwaukee, they make good products. Truth be told, this is all about power but it comes at a cost for overall performance. Maybe good for those doing strictly construction and just want power numbers. It really isn't about precision, comfort and control. Someone was talking about horrible bit runout on some review I read. Mine was perfectly straight. Someone else was talking about it being loud. I must say it is the loudest of any cordless drill I've used. So to be totally honest, this drill sits at less than average guys in many other ways than power and speed. Don't bash me for telling the truth, I'm just trying to be helpful. Perhaps it might be a good fit for you but ... MoreSorry guys, just can't give that favorable of a review of this new drill. I own two of the previous generation hammer drills to this one and both a incredibly powerful drills but bits without flats or 1/4 hex (regular round twist bits) slip in both chucks and it's an issue I've had almost new out of the box, this one seems far more resilient than the previous generation with the clutch engaging when bound rather than powering through. The power and speed to punch through the materials I work with daily (aluminum and mild steel) is plenty there, is able to tear through 3/8 countersink bolt heads with relative ease and drills up to one full inch aluminum with the performance I expect from the previous generation. If I do have a complaint however would be that the gear selector switch is not as positive as the previous drills forcing you to ... MoreI own two of the previous generation hammer drills to this one and both a incredibly powerful drills but bits without flats or 1/4 hex (regular round twist bits) slip in both chucks and it's an issue I've had almost new out of the box, this one seems far more resilient than the previous generation with the clutch engaging when bound rather than powering through. If I do have a complaint however would be that the gear selector switch is not as positive as the previous drills forcing you to really have to intently change settings and physically check to make sure the change was made. It also appears to run a tad cooler under heavy load, a common complaint with the previous gen models, test conditions would be about 25-30 3/8" holes in about 3/8 to 1/2" aluminum and followed with a 1/2" shank countersink bit. The real challenge comes when I am required to use the hole saw arbors to cut larger holes in 3/16 to accommodate large connectors a notoriously rough task with aluminum and a task the Red team really outshined Dewalt's XR platform almost every time it was performed. All in all a great drill I highly recommend.
Love It!I owned a Porter Cable before I bought this. But I needed a hammer drill in order to install a TV stand in the block wall at the our church. One of our trustees had a hammer drill and let me borrow it for this project. I couldn't believe how well this worked out for me and was thinking of getting a Makita before I used his Milwaukee hammer drill. I then saved up and looked up reviews and watched several YouTube videos before deciding to jump into the Milwaukee line. Very happy I bought it and starting to make plans to invest in more later. Highly recommend this tool.
I bought this tool because I already have 2 batteries and the charger. I gave it a 4 star because it's pricey ($200) for just the tool only. I was thinking about buying a Dewalt corded hammer drill (which is a lot cheaper) but the only thing that stopped me is that I already have the batteries and charger and the Milwaukee name brand. This tool is light and has a nice grip. It took a while to drill a hole thru concrete. I don't know if it's the bit or just the tool. This tool did it's job.
Amazing drill! Very balanced with little feedback on hammer setting. I owned a version of this drill since 2019, and I just reached a point where I needed another in the toolbox. No other drill in this category, from other companies, compares to the quality of this drill. This drill is heavier, which is great for hammer drilling, but could be tiring above your head for long periods. It’s not enough for me to give this drill anything less than 5 stars.
I have other Milwaukee portable drills but most are several years old. They still work great but I need one for a "odd job" that required more power. After an elbow surgery I was unable to start my Stihl chainsaw, I needed my chainsaw operational since I use to support my hobby of woodturning. I happen to remember a mentor of mine starting his lawnmower with a drill, since he is now deceased I scoured youtube and sure enough there was a number of instructional videos on this subject. I followed the instructions on the films but needed a drill with a little more "snot", s I bought a new Mi8 FUEL Hammer Drill! Put together the attachment and fired up the M18 Fuel Driver in #2 mode and the chainsaw kicked over immediately and purred...what a great sound! Thanks ... MoreI have other Milwaukee portable drills but most are several years old. They still work great but I need one for a "odd job" that required more power. I was sent an email by Milwaukee asking for my review of their 5-Tool Combo Kit, and the picture they sent me doesn't match what I bought from Home Depot. I purchased the M18 Fuel Combo Kit that came with the M18 Fuel Hammer Drill, Impact Driver, Blower, Oscillating Multi-Tool, and their 4-1/2" / 5" Grinder.I ordered this kit for Christmas because all of my older tools were destroyed in Hurricane Ian back in late September. I was coming from a mish mash of DeWalt, Harbor Freight etc and I must say that I absolutely LOVE these M18 Fuel tools from Milwaukee. I have used all of them to help repair my house and it's been a pleasure. They are by far the best cordless power tools I have ever used. Home Depot has it on their website for $120 but it's always out of stock. I will purchase the bare tool that comes with a M12 battery as part of a promotion, but I would love to find the one that comes with the whole kit. Will Home Depot ever be restocking this kit? I have signed up to be alerted when it becomes available again, but it's been quite a while and nada. I have been keeping an eye on eBay to see if I can grab one there. Thank you in advance!
The m18 fuel 2904-20 is the most powerful 1/2in. hammer drill driver I have ever used. When drilling 12, 1/2in. holes in cement, 3in. deep, it went through like butter. When drilling 5in. holes through 1/2 in. cement board board, it went through in no time at all.Drilling in wood, all different sizes, and setting screws, was a breeze. I have older m18 hammer drill drivers, and other brands, and this one put them to shame. The anti kick back feature works great, and the ability to turn it off is terrific. I can't say enough about the m18 2904-20 hammer drill driver.
