Its a good sturdy blade. Came very sharp out of the package. Nice sheath design. The design of the sheath and overall blade its quite similar to the Gerber Strongarm. I suspect that is not an accident. The blade is thick, the handle is a bit on the chunky side. The entire knife is larger than I prefer to carry as a work knife, it feels more like a tactical knife with a tool brand logo on it.It is a bit heavy, but that comes with being sturdy. The chunkiness of the handle might make it awkward to wield for some smaller framed people. The sheath comes with several pieces of nylon strap to secure it to your belt in various ways. AUS8 steel is a very basic cheap corrosion resistant steel. Itās a softer steel than quality knife steels or even 420stainless.I guess they named it hardline thinking the average consumer would believe it was a hardened steel. Anyway, this is a $30 knife all day long and if you buy this you are literally paying $34 extra dollars for it to say Milwaukee Hardline on it.Have fun with that. Iāll stick to having mixed tools and and valuing money for quality over being duped into brand loyalty.

Sharp as a razor blade when it was delivered, but incredibly strong. The mother of all box cutters. I feel so much safer using this than regular box cutters. Found it can serve as a superior marker for my woodworking. And if you don't like to carry a gun for self defense, I would put it just one small step below a revolver. It comes with a nice, strong sheath. Not sure where it was manufactured. It can be sharpened with sandpaper. I put both sides of the edge of the blade through a few stokes of 100, 320 then 600 grit and it makes it as sharp as it was when it arrived about a week ago. Far exceeded my expectations. No, I don't work for Milwaukee. But this beauty will last for generations.

This knife is great! I saw it, and asked my son - a Milwaukee dealer - to try and get me one. Showed up today and I am super impressed. Well built, full tang. Feels great in my hand - grip could easily be modified, or replaced with bone or wood by someone more skilled than I. The sheath is really nice - holds the knife tightly, and with all the attachment points it can easily be worn on the side, scout style, or integrated onto a pack or ALICE suspenders. Sharp 5ā blade- Iāll hone it to a razor. I put it right up there with many Gerber or SOG knives, but ādifferentā in many ways. Milwaukee needs to market heāll out of this blade among enthusiasts, and develop similar knives for a growing and hungry market!
Another well-made Milwaukee tool. This knife (model 48-22-1928, Made in Taiwan) is extremely comfortable to use, very well balanced and quite sharp out of the package (which, as always, is extremely hard to open.) The full-length tang makes the knife virtually unbreakable, not that I tried hard to break it! The steel blade is simple ā no sawing teeth, no hooks, no cutting notches. It's made for stabbing and cutting. The hard plastic sheath has a well-designed thumb release tab on both sides, making it easy to grab and release the knife with either hand. The knife can be removed by pulling without pressing the thumb button, but it's designed to be much harder ā the leverage provided by the thumb really helps and it's a very natural movement. There is a lot of webbing and velcro on the sheath, providing multiple options for carrying the knife (see photos on the web site), but all of it can be removed as desired to meet user needs. I really like the option to carry the knife horizontally on my belt, in the small of my back, but that takes a fair amount of playing with belts, velcro and belt loops to get right. The webbing includes a loop with snap button to secure the handle inside the sheath. It's a tight fit that really secures the handle, but it requires two hands to snap closed so it's awkward to use when the knife is carried on the back. Another nice touch is the lanyard hole in the handle; this is a high-priced knife so I'd hate to lose it in the field. I appreciate the high quality a lot, but it seems a bit overpriced. Still, it's easy to recommend for serious users.
During my years in the Navy as a Naval Flight Officer I was issued a survival knife that fortunately I never had to use for that, but around the house I used it for everything outside that needed cutting. Not sure where it ended up but I have definitely missed it. When I saw this 5 in. Fixed Blade Knife from Milwaukee it looked like a good replacement. It definitely is with its good nylon grip, sharp steel blade and really good point at the end. It comes with a very nice molded sheath that fits well on your belt. I am definitely going to be using this one for many years. My only negative comment to the manufacturer would be about the packaging it comes in. Since you are trying to open a very sharp knife with another cutting tool that could cause someone to injure themselves.
Iām an outdoor kind of guy; camping, fishing, and a DiYer. Iām around knives a lot. Two of my standouts are an 8ā survival knife, and a machete. However, when it comes to my tools, somehow I didnāt have a good non-razor utility knife until I acquired the Milwaukee 5ā Hardline Fixed Blade Knife.Upon removing this knife from its packaging, it was immediately apparent that it was going to be more than just a tool box utility knife. It is certainly āutilityā in every sense. I will be taking it with me when I go camping, fishing, as well as tooling. Pretty much where ever I am, my Milwaukee Hardline knife will be there with me. My knife certainly has its work cut out for it with numerous remodeling projects in and outside of the home. Iāve already been using it to demo old linoleum flooring and trim new flooring as well. This is a full-tang fixed-bladed knife, which you can āseeā because the handle is actually two pieces attached to either side of the metal blade. The over-molded handle, when gripped hard, has just enough āgiveā to contour to your hand. It gives you comfort and control when using the blade. The blade itself is SHARP. When removing the blade from the sheath for the first time, I actually cut my finger. If need be, thereās room for further sharpening but I think it comes plenty sharp enough for most applications. Itās also āheavyā. Thereās no doubt it is one solid knife. You can literally āseeā the thickness of the blade. If you didnāt know what AUS-8 steel was before, you will learn fast upon examining this knife. The blade even looks pretty with its black sheen.Another gem about this product is the sheath! Some of my other knives are good, but came with poor quality sheaths. Not this one. The portion of the Milwaukeeās sheath that houses the blade is made of a hard plastic composite material that locks the blade in place. Even if you held it upside down without the blade strapped in, it wonāt fall out. I also love that you can strap the sheath on horizontally as well as vertically, although I donāt think the sheath is as secure when worn horizontal. If I had to come up with a con, itās that there is not serrated teeth on the backside of the blade. I know such a thing isnāt really a prominent feature on 5ā blades but it appears to have been attempted here, but not really. I say, if youāre going to do it, might as well be āall inā with it.When I think of quality knives, brands like Buck and Gerber come to mind. Now, Iāll always think of Milwaukee first. From now, when I dive into my toolbox looking for a cutting instrument, my Milwaukee Hardline is going to be the first thing I reach for.
The 5" Milwaukee Hardline Fixed Blade knife is impressive and has become my primary knife for carrying and backpacking. Out of the box it was sharp enough to shave my arm hair. To test the blade I split pine using the knife and a mallet. I was very surprised at how little vibration I felt in the handle. The blade and handle felt strong and stable and it was pretty comfortable to split and chop wood to make kindling. The blade was just as sharp afterward.I really like the full length of the blade through the handle, which I think is a must for a knife in this size and price point. The handle is made from glass re-enforced nylon which is very durable, long lasting, and fairly heat resistant. The handle is also comfortable and the grips work well. It's beefy, balanced well, and sits well in my hand. The grooves on the blade keep my thumb fixed as I'm working and I have no fear of my fingers slipping onto the blade. The blade is made from AUS-8 steel which is a hard material but still fairly easy to sharpen. The sheath is reversible so the blade can slide in either way. It's pretty comfortable when worn parallel with my belt at the small of my back. There are notches on the handle of the knife that click into the sheath so it will only come out if you want it to.Overall, I am very happy and pleased with this knife.
This is a good compliment to my Hardline folders (pocket knives). This is a nice drop point smooth (not serrated) blade which is my preference for knives. It's a good overall size for a fixed blade. It is a full tang knife, but I feel the scales should be a bit heavier. The balance of the knife is toward the tip. The scales are comfortable though and not overly large or excessively overmolded. Glass reinforced nylon Is a nice touch.I do like the shape of the blade. I wish they used D2 like in the hardline folding knives. I have several knives with AUS-8 steel and it is very capable, but my fixed blades tend to see more abuse than a folding pocket knife so the durability of D2 would have been appreciated.Sharpness out of the package left a little to be desired, ...Ā MoreThis is a good compliment to my Hardline folders (pocket knives). The final grind was a tad rough in spots, leaving a burr still. I touched it up on some high grit stones. It took and kept a very keen edge so the steel is heat treated well. The sheath isn't a throw away. It's actually nice. The knife locks in pretty well and it has a strap that goes around the handle. It can be positioned on a belt either vertically or horizontally.Overall I am happy with this and it will definitely get a ton of use.
This is an excellent work knife. Once you learn how to sharpen you'll never go back to "box cutters" or replaceable bladed knives. The length and the width of the blade are excellent for opening boxes, cutting strapping, shaving wood, and other odd tasks. The full tang construction (meaning the metal structure of the knife runs from tip to tip of its entire length) is the strongest architecture available for hand tools. This means the handle will always remain secure as you lever the blade for increased cutting leverage. The sheath is really versatile and secure. If you need additional security, the strap holding the sheath to your pack or tool belt can be snapped around the handle so it can't come out. I haven't had it long enough to see how easily it can be resharpened, but so far I haven't seen anything to tell me that it'll be any easier or harder than my other hand tools.
