Compact 90 Degree Drill/Driver
16 January 2022

originally posted on milwaukeetool.com

Eliminates the drudgery of using a stubby or 90 degree ratcheting screwdriver in recessed lighting cans, j-boxes, drop ceilings, and drawer glide repairs and installation. Of course it is great for close-quarter drilling of studs for electrical circuits and clever retrofitting of circuits with minimized number and size of wall or ceiling perforations. The long paddle switch is ergonomically a winner once you figure out the ideal grip for the job.

I had a project where a right angle drill was necessary and my old corded one had stripped its gears. I was delighted to find this one with its ability to fit into very confined spaces. It did a great job on my tough project. I have always found Milwaukee tools to be of top quality and Ace is my favorite hardware store.

The tool is very well balanced, I prefer to run a 2.0 battery on the drill for best balance. With this tool I don't have to bother with right angle attachments to get into those tight spaces. Overall very functional!!

I purchased this tool for a specific reason and it works for that. Before you jump on a right angle drill, make sure you NEED it. It will be less ergonomic as a drill since it is hard to push straight down. Your hand tends to touch the chuck so wear heavy gloves. As a screw or nut driver it can get into some tight places (which is what I needed). It has its uses but it is not the tool you will reach for under normal conditions. Let's talk about. that. torque limiting. As near I can figure, this is just a measurement of motor current draw. When it exceeds a limit, the power is cut and a red light comes on. There is a thumb wheel to set this with. Kind of a poorer solution to a clutch and I am not sure I will use it. This brings up two more points. There is a thumb wheel to set this with. Kind of a poorer solution to a clutch and I am not sure I will use it. This brings up two more points. This is not a "Fuel" tool in that it has a brushed rather than brushless motor. Battery life is shorter due the the reduced efficiency of this design. I read reviews about folks complaining that one LED was defective. Uummm-guys, that second LED was the red one for an over-torque event. It is not a second white LED. You get one of those which is bright enough. Finally, the max speed is 800 rpm. It is not adjustable by range, just by the trigger/paddle. It is kind of slow but with that motor and gearbox, that is about the best you could hope for. You will know if you need this. Don't buy it unless you do. Right angle drills are a speciality item. This is OK for light occasional duty to get you out of a jamb.

I was on the fence about buying this one and read all the reviews and I understand the complaints about the ergonomics of the direction switch, although I found it pretty easy to adjust to and it works pretty well but could get in the way on some jobs. I also get the complaints about the length but it keeps it slim, I was also thinking of getting the Ryobi, but in comparison its huge, and the battery is a monster, on this one with the smaller 1.5 or 2.0 M12 battery its pretty compact just a bit long. I was concerned about the paddle switch but it worked great and is easy to use in awkward situations and the speed switch is in a perfect spot so you can set it and not bump it. I was concerned about the paddle switch but it worked great and is easy to use in awkward situations and the speed switch is in a perfect spot so you can set it and not bump it. I bought this to drill the holes half in the crankshaft and half in the pulley for a GM LS motor since they don't have a key and are just a press fit so they can spin on the shaft in belt driven supercharger applications so they sell pinning kits to stop them from rotating. Its hard to get in there with the engine installed and the radiator still in place so this drill made the job go a lot easier and power was not a problem. I originally drilled pinned the shaft with the OEM balancer and used my standard Ryobi drill which required pulling the radiator and turning the engine over until the location for the hole was in just the right spot. It took forever to drill the hole. With this drill I blasted right through and didn't have to worry about where I needed the hole it just fit. The only thing I wish it had was the power indicator like some of my other brushless M12 tools. It is definitely a problem solver and maybe not something you will reach for every day but definitely worth having. It has serious torque for a small tool (well smallish it is still definitely decently sized) that fits in tight spots. The chuck worked well and was small enough but still got tight enough for a keyless. No idea how it will hold up in the long haul for heavy use but I am glad to have it. I should have put it on my shelf a long time ago since i have had numerous problems it could have helped with, but glad to have it now.

Great product, have used one several times, unfortunately did not receive the one I ordered, so once Ive been refunded Ill most likely order one on Amazon and get it the next day. Great tool, and a must have for my line of work. Makes drilling and tapping holes in tight spaces a breeze. Unfortunately I paid for it on the 16th and have been borrowing a co-workers almost every day hoping that some day it would get shipped and I could have my own.

The occasional need for a drill that can be used in a tightly confined space has lead me to look at and compare compact right angle drills. Principally DeWalt, Bosch and Milwaukee. After reviewing the features of each I decided to purchase the Milwaukee. The 12 volt battery platform allows for a small battery footprint and reduces weight over an 18 volt platform. How ever if needed you can step up to the 12 volt high capacity battery which is slightly larger and heavier. This allows you the ability to match the tool to the task. The Milwaukee has several features worth mentioning. It has an LED fuel scale that helps you to stay on top of battery status. Battery life has been good and this drill/driver has lived up to expectations.

Sorry guys, I love M but I've owned this one for a few months and for one reason or another it let me down every time I've used it.I should not have to back out for a 2x4 three times to get through with 3/4" spade. Last time used was 3 weeks ago was for recessed lighting, after stopping mid joist, I reversed then forward then rev. then forward till it shut itself down and would not engage with a full battery till I removed the battery to reset itself. This happened at each joist I tried to get through. For my last 2 holes I just went out to get my regular M18 drill, assembled the battery and bit in the ceiling to get it done. That messing around ended up being faster than using this tool.I wish I could get my money back on this one so cannot reccomend.Stick ... MoreSorry guys, I love M but I've owned this one for a few months and for one reason or another it let me down every time I've used it.I should not have to back out for a 2x4 three times to get through with 3/4" spade. Very good tool, won't disappoint

According to the spec, the inch pound torque rating appears low. However, it is more than strong enough to drill holes in tight places. I suppose Milwaukee could make a powerful drill but the trade off of trying to hold a drill twice the weight isn't worth it. The 12V model in my opinion is a better deal than the 18V because of the weight reduction. Who has time to wrassle with a clunky tool in a cramped space when you are lying on your back on a cold surface? Another plus is this drill's variable speed, very useful especially when starting out. She ain't pretty or super fancy but dang when that special need comes up, she is true!

i have been wanting a small right-angle drill for a while and this one is small and smooth operating with an adjustable speed control knob so you can set range it operates in i usually prefer a regular trigger to the big paddle switch though. they could have put fuel gauge somewhere you could see it when using it I would rather it was on battery or on spot not under your hand
