Minelab Vanquish 540 Metal Detector

The detector preformed far better than I anticipated.One serious issue was the battery charger didn't shut off when fully charged. The batteries were so hot they had the potential to catch fire.So I'm far from impressed with the sub standard charger.I thought about returning it, but I figured I'd get the same replacement charger.I'm now using store bought batteries.The charger I received is now in the bin.!

I got the 540 and I thought I was getting the one with two coils. They sent me the single one and said it was what I ordered. On the order it showed a pict with two coils. I was told it was for reference. The ad said I was supposed to get a free digging tool. The owner said he put a note to the warehouse . Did not get that either. I ordered a pin pointer and a bag which came without a problem. I called to complain, and he set me a digging tool. By the way I was told because I use a Military discount they said I could not get anything else with the order. Not the best experience but I guess I will live with it. I like the detector and the pin pointer. My first detector.

Awesome detector!

Received the Minelab Vanquish 540 and got what I ordered. It arrived as promised. Took it out for the first time and it performed like a champ. The wireless headphones are very nice. No cord to deal with. But if I had to use corded headphones I could. I would surely recommend this detector to anyone looking to get into metal detecting.

Awesome little detector for a first time hunter!

I got this because I had lost my wedding ring 8 months earlier. I knew the rough location and so I bought this and headed out. I was super easy to set up and after a little play around I began to work out what the different sounds and readings I was getting meant. after searching for about an hour, I swapped from the smaller coil to the larger, and thought I would have one more swoop of the area. It suddenly beeped and gave me a reading of 22 (higher than I had recorded yet) I used my sand scoop and low and behold my little wedding ring was located! Needless to say I was stoked and my wife was speechless!

Digging deeper: 12",18", 22" and the Vanquish still points deeper!

First let me say, I’m old to the hobby of coin hunting, but new to using a metal detector. As a teenager a tractor dug a septic tank hole in our backyard and we found a rusty old sword. I know there’s interesting goodies underground. That’s why I ordered the Vanquish 540, because it will penetrate up to 12” under good conditions.The Vanquish has confusing messages. We were careful that the shovel was a couple yards away while detecting and no power lines to bother the signal. We also obeyed the 5 seconds to reset the target constantly. However, we were always chasing the target. We had 5 holes which ended up 18 to 22 inches deep and just as wide. Even stranger was when we tilted the coil and placed it in the hole it read targets parallel to the ground in all directions. I understand from the many YouTube shows the Vanquish range can go 12”, so to register something 22” plus another 8 plus inches underground, well I’m sure you see my point of confusion.We have rocky soil so maybe that’s the problem!However, we’ve found a penny, a marble, 2 items of interest and lots of undesirables which are far better in a finder’s bucket than in our tires. We are trying to learn our machine and if you have any helpful advice, I would like to hear it.With the purchase of the Vanquish 540, we received a Minelab Pro-Find 20. The on/off is a bear to use, sometimes it takes 10 pushes to get it to turn on.JUST TO BE CLEAR, IF I WERE RATING MODERN METAL DETECTORS, 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

It pays for itself

Detector warehouse was quick to expedite the bundle package. The price competitive, inclusive of incentives.The detector works as advertise online, via media reviews.The dial easy to read, and most important; gets me out and moving. :-)It never fails to find something in the detecting spectrum.This item replaced a mine lab model well above its hierarchy, which was good at finding pull tabs.Don’t be deceived by high price models. Very happy with this item. No more pull tabs. Yay!

Honestly, I had buyer’s remorse after my first run with the Vanquish 540. One of the you-tube channels gave their viewers a piece of advice which I took to heart. “Learn your machine!” So, I set out to do just that, especially being NEW to the sport of metal detecting and knew nothing. I’ve watched many more you-tube reports on the Vanquish 540. At this point I’ve had well over 100 personal targets and discoveries. The top finds are: a brick size chunk of aluminum, an old US Mail lock, a rabies tag from the 1960’s in my Great Grandma’s yard, some change and enough pull tabs to string together as garland on a Christmas tree.On my first review I reported digging a 22” deep hole and the Vanquish kept pointing deeper and deeper. Thank you. Arrived within 24 hours, to the far north of NZ . No excuses about covid possibly delaying items!! Everything intact, and once put together we tested out the treasures in the backyard!! The detector made all the right sounds, however I was not too keen on digging holes to investigate because the dog was watching and did not want her to emulate me!! I was nervous buying this detector because I really didn’t know much about them. After reading the reviews and watching a few YouTube videos I decided to take the plunge. I’m not disappointed at all. It is exactly what I wanted. A detector that is not too pricey, easy for a beginner to use, but able to find decent targets. So far I’ve used it on the beach most days. I’m slowly learning how to set the discrimination settings in order to filter out rubbish (first few days I found bottle tops and can pull tabs by the truckload). The detector is really easy to use, but there is a learning curve in order to master it. Expect to dig rubbish until you learn how to use the machine properly.
