Much Moore Premium Awesome Hokey Pokey Ice Cream. “Much Moore” is a new brand for me. The blurb says it is “awesome icecream made in New Zealand”… “proudly made by Marcus Moore” in Auckland. An App called Zoominfo tells me that “Much Moore Ice Cream is a New Zealand ice cream company with award winning ice cream flavours including Limonata Cheesecake, Hokey Pokey, Premium Vanilla, French Vanilla, Divine Brown, Chocolate and Orange Chocolate Chip”. Sounds amazing. I got to try the ‘cookie dough choc chip’ flavour via Bunch and am happy to launch into this other two-litre tub of vanilla icecream, cautious though, of the flavour additions, as previously they didn’t improve on the plain vanilla icecream and the $11 price-tag did not seem worth it overall. the plastic ... The description on this label is not clear. It doesn’t explain anything about there being honeycomb inside (“awesome hokey pokey flavoured premium icecream with hokey pokey butterscotch”). For a hokey pokey newbie, this doesn’t explain what hokey pokey is and makes the experience confusing. The top of the icecream had scattered small syrupy blobs sitting there. Only with lots more earnest, research-based exploration did some surprising little bits of honeycomb (possibly) show up lower down in the tub. Sadly these were small, round, too rock-hard and not enjoyable. The kids put this icecream into Woolies choc & vanilla flavoured waffle cones and said the cone made a big difference to enjoying this product. I had to give it a go as well, and agree it is much nicer in a cone than served in a bowl, where it really needs a more unifying seam of swirly flavours bringing it all together rather than these small confusing isolated bits and blobs. Not a repeat buy for me. I would do the hokey pokey, turn around, and get a different flavour.

APTLY NAMED - I EXPECTED MUCH MORE! I was so excited when I saw New Zealand ice cream in the description when I received the sample. Fantastic memories of Expo 88 and the New Zealand ice cream stand with that deliciously smooth, creamy and decadent ice cream came flooding back. Add to that that this Hokey Pokey also contained butterscotch and I was almost drooling. I raced down to Woolies and came back holding aloft what I thought was going to be the Holy Grail of ice cream. We all had double scoops in our freshly purchased cones and proceeded to eat. What a let down!! The mood imploded like a tub of yoghurt hitting a brick wall. We all looked at each other and asked “is it just me or is this a real letdown?”No silky smooth, creamy NZ ice cream, just pretty basic ... MoreAPTLY NAMED - I EXPECTED MUCH MORE! I spat them out for fear of breaking a tooth. Perhaps butterscotch swirls would be a better option for elderly people like myself. At around $11. 00 for 2 litres, I felt this was way overpriced for what you got, or didn’t get in this case. I really hate giving a bad review because I really appreciate the samples we get, but in this case I would hate to see people spend that sort of money on ice cream that doesn’t live up to its name or price.

Rich and Creamy. Normally I advocate for buying Australian but it'd be a bit remiss of me this time to find an issue with this product. It's made in NZ so since I'm a Kiwi this was fine, although I've never heard of this brand before beign offered these ice cream samples to try. Normally my issues with non-Australian apart from the obvious re buying local is not knowing how it's made/grown and the quality. No issues with this product here. Very high quality which is probably reflected in the price, even if normally it'd be too dear for me to purchase. It was easy to find in the ice cream freezers and the packaging and label matched the hokey pokey colouring and looked appealing. I grew up with Hokey Pokey ice cream but was never a fan so didn't choose it when buying an ice cream. I loved hokey pokey on it's own but just not in ice cream. Since that was so long ago I have no idea how big the pieces were nor how many were present per serve. When I opened the tub there looked like there were lots but they did seem very small. The ice cream was smooth and creamy with a lovely vanilla flavour but I hardly tasted the hokey pokey pieces. Again being so small they seemed to melt in my mouth and disappear quickly without that extra flavour hit and I only noticed one small crunch with one of the pieces. I think if you were a hokey pokey fan you might be disappointed since I would have thought there should be bigger pieces and that hokey pokey/honeycomb crunch with each bite. Overall I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this but purely becasue it was mainly vanilla ice cream and not really a strong hokey pokey presence. I would be happy to buy it again if it was on special but at the current price it's too dear for our needs and I'd be just as happy with a pain vanilla ice cream that's half the price.

Put your right hand up for more - Much Moore Hokey Pokey! I was very excited to get this sample. Ice cream and made in New Zealand. I had high expectations before the sample even got home. It was easily located in store in the ice cream section. The container is square so stacks well and is efficient for freezer space. The ice cream was light and voluminous and creamy. It had a soft luxe texture and made me believe it had been made of good quality products. The little chunks of butter scotch, about the size of a small pea, were delicious and spread randomly throughout. Each spoonful produced 1 or 2 chunks and I would have loved to have more butter scotch but that is just me. It definitely contained enough butter scotch chunks for others. Price point is $11 for 2l ... MorePut your right hand up for more - Much Moore Hokey Pokey! I was very excited to get this sample. Ice cream and made in New Zealand. Creamy - bringing back our childhood ice-cream memories! Is it just us, but a lot of ice-creams we dare to purchase or consume on special occasions always taste way too sweet. ? When we were kids, we didn't have ice-cream that was laden with sugar. Eg Blue Ribbon, Hearts etc. Well, we have to say this ice cream brought back some memories. The ice cream itself was creamy, smooth and had a lovely vanilla taste. There was butterscotch hokey pokey throughout, but it didn't taste like sugar on sugar like a lot of mixes do these days and the combination worked well together. The hokey pokey gave it texture and taste differences and we did really enjoy it. This ice cream was made in New Zealand, so I'm guessing those lush pastures helped with making this ice cream so ... Who knows? Thanks for the sample. We tend to make our own ice cream at home so we can control the sweetness with the addition of fruit. At $11 a tub, this honestly would not be a regular item purchase in our household, especially with essential fruit and veg items at high prices at the moment. Thank you for the sample.

On eating, I found the texture enjoyable and creamy, unusually soft. The butterscotch chips are hard at the beginning but melt and become similar to a caramel swirl with a slight crunch. It melts quickly, quick scooping is needed! But it is very easy the scoop. All together I enjoyed this one more than the cookies dough. It is sweeter than expected but it doesn’t have as much of the artificial taste compared to the cookie dough and the butterscotch chips are sweet and buttery. Hubby didn’t enjoy this one as much, stating it was too sweet for him. Interestingly, there is less sugar and sodium per serve in this ice-cream compared to the cookie dough, This one would be my winner in the ice cream race. Appreciate the opportunity and I would consider purchasing this again if i saw it on special.
Ice-cream worth taking a chance on . I usually strictly only go for chocolate ice-cream and hardly ever venture into other flavours (unlike my other family members ). But having been assigned this as a sample to review, I saw nothing to lose from being a bit open-minded and trying out this flavour Firstly locating the sample was pretty effortless, as I have had to pick up this brand in a different variety before, therefore I knew where to look Before sharing my thoughts on the flavour, I will re-share the same points I brought up with the other variety of the same brand (because I found/ observed the same issues with this variety too):1. All the other varieties available had the same colour of plastic tub. The only difference is the labels on the lid and these aren't easily visible when they're all stacked together. The tub is only labelled on the lid. 2. The price is more expensive than what I usually pay for ice cream. 3. Upon trying to open the tub, I noticed the side flap was impossible to snap off (I had to use scissors). When I have bought other brands, I can usually snap this off easily to then open the ice-cream. In terms of flavour, I could not fault it. It was delicious and creamy with nice pieces of butterscotch. I would probably repurchase it if it is on special and comes in a smaller tub. I was so excited by my newly-found yummy ice-cream flavour (that was not chocolate) that I decided to try it with some arrowroot biscuit. Yum!
Hokey pokey. It took me 3 attempts to secure this sample (3rd time lucky!) They had lots of the other flavours in this brand but no hokey pokey. My kids were very excited to receive this sample! I don't buy ice cream often so it was a real treat. After opening the tub it appeared that the hokey pokey pieces were primarily on one side. After reading other reviews I'm seeing that I'm not the only one to notice that. So of course everyone served themselves out of the more heavily hokey pokied side The ice cream was easy to scoop, some of the hokey pokey pieces had gone sticky and like Caramel. We did enjoy this sample. It was not the most creamy ice cream I've ever had but still enjoyable. Some of the toffee pieces freeze quite hard and require a lot of chewing. At $11 ... MoreHokey pokey. Disappointing & Confusing. Much Moore Awesome Hokey Pokey Ice Cream Tub 2lPrice: Usually $11 a tub. Currently half price ($5. 50) Product of: New ZealandPackaging: Hard plastic tub and lid. General: - I received this sample invitation on the 10th of January 2023. After many fruitless visits to my store... and with only two days left to claim it, I finally saw this flavour in stock and grabbed a tub! (The design does not stand out very much from other flavours in the range)There had been an 'Out of Stock' sign in store freezer since Jan 11, so every time I went shopping I had to do the hokey pokey, turn around and go home empty handed. (Sidenote: I was always taught that the original spelling of the traditional dance was Hokey Cokey.... not Pokey)Other flavours from ... MoreDisappointing & Confusing. (Sidenote: I was always taught that the original spelling of the traditional dance was Hokey Cokey.... not Pokey)Other flavours from the range were available, but no Hokey Pokey. - So that brings me to the question... what is Hokey Pokey? Googling that question told me that it is a traditionally New Zealand made VANILLA icecream that has lumps of HONEYCOMB TOFFEE in it. Upon getting out my magnifying glass and reading the teeny tiny text on the Much Moore tub lid, I discovered that their product is 'HOKEY POKEY' (not vanilla) flavoured icecream with HOKEY POKEY BUTTERSCOTCH lumps added. So NOT vanilla icecream and NOT honeycomb toffee???- The lid opened easily and also resealed well. - The icecream was easy to scoop out as it was quite soft. - Original viewing of the product upon opening the lid, failed to show me many lumps of butterscotch at all. Refer photo. There is meant to be 7% butterscotch pieces in the product. Scooping into it, also failed to show me anywhere as near as many bits as the picture on the lid inferred there was going to be. There sure looks more than 7% in the lid picture! - My family tasted the icecream and all agreed it just tasted like vanilla icecream, not 'hokey pokey' flavoured... and that all of us had trouble locating the butterscotch. The icecream was not as creamy as our usual icecream. We wouldn't say it was icy, but definitely not what we think of as premium creamy icecream. - We were also confused because what we call butterscotch, is completely different to what we call honeycomb! The lid pictures what we call honeycomb (aerated), yet the blurb calls it butterscotch (to us a hard toffee). Perhaps that is what the picture on the lid is trying to show us? The lumps are half aerated honeycomb with some harder toffee? I don't know. The picture left us confused. It is not very clear. Perhaps it comes down to difference between what NZ calls butterscotch, compared to what Australians call butterscotch. - Serving Suggestion: Huh? Apparently the picture is a 'serving suggestion'. One ball of icecream with some honeycomb/butterscotch sitting next to it? Hmm.. I can't see me ever serving it like that. A bowl or a cone perhaps... but I really don't think I'd ever have some 'toffee' sitting on hand to place next to one scoop. - Was it worth $11 a tub? No. Not what I would call premium, even if the icecream itself was nice enough. Good thing it was half-price because the lack of honeycomb bits was super disappointing. It was just vanilla icecream with a very few stray pieces of 'butterscotch/honeycomb'. Overall: - I wouldn't buy this again at full price or half-price. I might as well have bought just a tub of vanilla. Not the special unique flavoured yummy treat the product name and picture promised me.... and that's what it's all about.
Creamy and melts in your mouth. Everyone was really excited to receive this sample, although my kids didn’t know what hokey pokey was. Hubby said he struggled with the lid a little and I did notice there was actually two spots you could choose from. A bit confusing I feel. He absolutely loved it and thought it had plenty of crunchy bits and was soft and creamy. Better than normal ice cream. My 9 year old also loved it. He thought it was very creamy and loved the caramel in it but did notice it melted quicker than other ice cream. His review in his words “it’s crunchy at first then soft and melts in your mouth”. He also commented that he likes that the lid is hard to use as then dad wouldn’t eat it all on him . My daughter didn’t think the lid was hard to use at all ... MoreCreamy and melts in your mouth. She also loved the caramel flavour through the creamy ice cream. Until yesterday I would’ve said the $11 is a price I wouldn’t pay, but I treated my kids to ice cream at an ice cream place at the shops. I nearly died when they told me the price for one scoop in a cone for two kids. Let’s just say in the moment I thought this ice cream tub would’ve been cheaper and they could’ve had a lot more than one scoop. So yes as a special treat I will buy this again. Also love that the tub is recyclable.
