This is the best extender I've ever had! My issue is a lot easier then most folks. I have a one bedroom, 1,000sq ft apartment. My router is in the living room but my gaming system and TV is in the bedroom. There's a wall that separates the apartment and kills my smart TV and gaming system from getting a decent signal. My partner told me about WiFi extender but I suck at hooking up anything techy. I finally got tired of my movies freezing and getting kicked out of online gaming and when to get an extender. I ended up getting this one because it was at a great price and to my amazement, was a piece of cake to setup! Got this to help fill in the hard to reach zone of my house. This thing has little to no coverage whatsoever. Connected it to my Netgear Nighthawk router. This extender is wifi only. No LAN port like others. Setup is a breeze, just press the WPS button on your router, then on the extender, wait for them to connect, then connect to the extender using your router password. Simple as that. Im using Google very high speed internet. When I did a speed test, my head sank in disappointment. Wasn't expecting it to be that low given the speed im paying for. Even when factoring in all the variables that can effect wifi speed. Plus this extender is supposed to be gigabit speed ready. Not sure there. Beware if you plan to use it in a house with more than 8 people connected to one network; it may be possible to find a solution by moving the extender to different areas of the house, but you may be better of with a mesh network system.

That said, it frequently loses connection which causes me to have to set it up all over again and you literally have to be chronically online to even know how to set it up if your WiFi router doesn’t have a WPS button. I had to find the online manual online and follow a completely different set of instructions that wasn’t even included with the actual device. And every time it disconnects it tries to make me set up a new network on my computer so now I have, no joke, ten WiFi networks that are all almost identical because you can’t use the same name otherwise you won’t be able to tell the old one from the new one you just created. Then I took it upstairs and plugged it into an outlet in the hallway. The power light was amber, then the WPS light turned on green. I went in the bedroom and connected my iPad Wi-Fi to the 5 GHz band which came up as a choice under my network name and entered my network password. It connected immediately. NEATGEAR literature claimed you could configure the device with a Mac or iPhone. I could not configure the device using my iPhone, iPad, or MacBook Pro. I fortunately had an Android tablet that allowed me to configure the device. I keep my AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi router closed. You can’t see it unless you know its name. I couldn’t close the extender so people could not see the extender without knowing its name. Now the router extender makes its name public. Smart TVs, computers, smart phones can see and connect to the extender’s two bands but they can’t log into secure/password protected cable tv apps, streaming apps, financial apps, etc. because sites don’t recognize the devices. The extender did not meet my needs. I can not recommend it.
I've had many issues with my extender since I bought it. And after calling technical support 5 times and doing everything they said, I still remain confused and frustrated. It really doesn't connect most of the time and I'll factory reset it again, go through Netgear Genie and do all of that and it'll work for a few minutes then it'll disconnect again. This has been an ongoing issue and it makes it so hard to even get on the extender WiFi . I updated it to latest firmware and my extender is in good range of the router. All lights are green, Netgear Genie says its all good. So then why can't I connect to it a few hours later? I have to keep resetting it and I'm not sure why. Its weird because the lights all stay solid green and the Netgear Genie says everything is connected, but its not. It'll do this other thing sometimes where my phone is connected and working with the extender wifi, but my other devices like my TV cannot connect to it, when I know in fact it has the capability to do so because its worked fine before. Its confusing... The TV says no internet or network error but my phone is connected fine to it. Another time the TV and phone were connected fine to the extender WiFi but the Xbox would not connect. The same error message. This looked really promising before I bought it I read the box and everything and it looks so awesome but I'm so frustrated and really stressed out trying to get this thing to work lol. Its been a week or 2 and its still doing the same glitchy things. I will say that even though I got tired of calling tech support because they really won't give me any other information that I don't know about or haven't tried I will say they can only do so much and all have been very kind and patient and for that I'm grateful but for now evey time it acts up I reset it and it works again for another few hours. Other than the weirdness ive encountered it works fine when it decides to do so and setup process is very easy. But doing it 100 times because it keeps disconnecting from the router for no apparent reason is annoying.
