A great, simple and tech free way to connect up to seven components to your Ethernet router. I am not a networking guru, trust me. When I switched internet providers, the new service, although it is fiber and has speeds of 2gb, it did not come with a router, just a one Ethernet port Modem. Not only did I lose the ability to connect my Printer, PS5, PS4, a couple of Smart TV's all to an Ethernet network, the speed was 10mbps. By adding the Netgear 8-port 10/100/10000 unmanaged switch, right out of my ISP's modem, I have all my devices connected to my Ethernet network and my speeds are between 1950-2125 mbps. What a lifesaver!

This particular 8-port Gigabit Switch was purchased for a small business customer who's 4-port Wireless Router's 4 ports weren't enough anymore. I knew this one would be a great solution because I have one myself in my home-business network. Installation, setup and configuration was easy. There's so much to love about Netgear products. I love the high quality!I've been personally using and recommending Netgear products for 20 years or more. The only downside is that there are only 8 ports, and one of them has to be Router/Internet (or another Switch's) Input and, therefore, you only get 7 ports of expansion. So take this into account when considering it for your network to be sure you have enough ports.

I recently switched Internet Providers and my new WiFi Router only had 2 Gigabit ports. After a few days of cord swapping, I decided to pick up a switch to manage everything with a single cable running from my Internet router.I've used Netgear for years and I've been a happy camper and this was no exception. It was small, well built and worked immediately after flicking the on switch.Same speeds, latency but with 5 extra ports. (7 total after using the uplink port).

Have one of these on the second floor and basement of our old house, with WiFi router in the middle. Makes it easy to have hardwired connections where we want them. Way more plug and play than you would think. 8 ports only marginally more expensive than 4 ports. Keep in mind that you’ll need one port for the line in. Sturdy construction. Wall mountable but comes with rubber feet. Have had one of them running for 5 plus years.
Price to feature set is amazing. You get a nice set of layer 3 features but you don't need a degree in IT Networking to figure it out. I've been a corporate IT consultant for 12 years now and I hold certs with HP networking and Cisco and I can say that bang for the buck, this Netgear switch series has all the features your standard office setup would need. You can Vlan, traffic prioritize and get some good analysis from the device. We've had this series installed for years now at some high use facilities and they are going strong, and compared to a Cisco of similar specs, well priced. This is perfect for someone that needs that extra management ability because of VoIP or other networking needs but doesn't need or want to get into full layer 3 switching. The web interface is easily learned and accessible. You can lock it down as well. Netgear has been really good about product support as well and they fix issues fast with firmware updates as needed. I've yet to have one of these fail (knock on wood) and we have these installed in most of our clients' locations.
It's an unmanaged switch. If you want VLans and such, you'll need to buy the managed one. So I have the Playstation, XBox, server, Google Chrome Cast / Stadia (RIP), TV, and Etc all connected to this thing running to a single jack. WiFi 6 is fast but the wired connection is more reliable. It's been running since I bought it. I have no lag in my games. All my streaming services play great. It was a great buy at Best Buy!
There is not much to report, it's an unmanaged switch, you just plug it in and it works. But the point is, you JUST plug it in, and it WORKS. There are no "oops/maybe/not-this-time" uncertainties, nor any complexities about connections or use. I've used this line of switches in 5-port and 8-port configurations for years, installed in my office/sound studio, and on the road when I need to deploy a private LAN for a gig. The metal casing (not plastic) I'm sure is a major point in making this unit hardy enough to put up with "road life".Just keep in mind that this is a SWITCH, not a ROUTER; it offers neither DHCP nor address/routing tables, nor port blocking or forwarding; no DMZ. I buy new ones when I need to either expand an existing LAN or create a new separate LAN.
I am stuck with a combination modem and router. You guessed it more devices than ports. What to do?I started checking out the different brands and configurations. For a few dollars more I could bet all kinds of wizbang devises and options. Wait what was that I needed? Oh, ports. No high speed. No complex managed. Just ports without a complex setup. This critter did the job it is compact and worked out of the box without more than just plugging in.
