Orbi home mesh WiFi system. This is my second purchase of the Orbi. I bought the first one 3 years ago, the homes in Costa Rica are made with cinder blocks which restrict the WiFi signal, plus internet is terrible in that country any way. I purchased the current refurbished Orib system, my mothers home is over a hundred years old back when house was built there was some form of concrete used which hinders the internet signal. I must admit now that Orbi has been implemented we haven't a lot of our issues are now obsolete.

This system and experience is OK, but for the price, it should be great. The router and satellites mostly work as advertised, but they do occasionally "drop" internet service. What's really troubling, is simple, yet necessary things such as firmware/software updates can cause the router to crash, have slow connectivity, or no connectivity. In summary, the price does not meet the expectations of what this product should be able to do and the support that should be given. For the price, I feel that I bought great looking sports car, with a 4 cylinder engine.

So I got this mesh system to replace my router and repeater that were driving me nuts with reliability issues. This system works great! I'm getting 5g connections reliably whereas in the past, I only got that connection close to my router or repeater. I'd say the range of these is great! Also, of note, I don't see that the speed decreases when the signal is being received by the satellite unit. I get 120mbps five feet from the main unit, and I get that much connected to the satellite 20 feet away. Really remarkable! Oh, and this: it works great with a tv streaming video in one part of the house while several other items are also attached with no reliability issues. This mesh system is great for a small business or a home if you are comfortable with networking. It was support for separate networks, VLANs, and SSIDs. It has great coverage and the components are much smaller than previous Orbi routers which makes them a lot easier to install and fit into cabinets. I am able to keep my office devices separate from our security cameras, and with VPN support built-in it is easy to access the information remotely. It has great coverage our office is about 2500 sqft and we have great signal all around. Netgear mobile app is not the best but it is handy to troubleshoot issues when a computer is not nearby. I strongly recommend it, especially when on sale. I bought another set for my house and is much better than our previous Orbi.

But flaky internet in spaces like my garage (where I added an Aladdin wifi capable opener and an alexa for music) and in my bedroom led me to finally try it. Wow, Alexa enabled lights that were unreliable (and just a few feet away from a T-link router) my Simplisafe webcam (again, just a few feet away from the router) that were super flaky before just started working. I have an alexa light switch that every other day would lose connection. No more. Same thing with the garage door opener. It would take sometimes as long as 20 seconds to respond to an open or close request...so long that I hardly ever used alexa or the app to operate it. Now, its instantaneous, even with alexa. If have problems set up a case number through Netgear before calling tech support. I made the mistake of getting in the RMA queue and I was #60. Called back with the case number and got in a queue as #15 and "only" was an hour before I talked to the first person. Set up was not as easy as advertised. Firmware was out of date and could only update router and one satellite. The other satellite continued to blink red for over 9 hours going through the 142 page online manual and all usual resets (30+30+30) until I finally called tech support. Actually, just very old version, but since it will not connect to the router, it cannot update. The second tech that actually took over my laptop to add new firmware, which was needed for the router and the good satellite, after almost an hour, finally realized the satellite has no ethernet port, so he could not download the new firmware directly to the satellite.Then he finally pronounced it a brick and began the process to send me a new satellite. During the course of talking to the two tech support people, Rose and Jim, they really had no clue what equipment they were dealing with. Rose kept asking about the power light on the back of the satellite and there is not one there. I referenced her to the specific page of the online manual and asked why she kept asking about the power indicator light on the back of the satellite. Of course, Jim thought I had the ethernet cable hooked directly from my laptop to the satellite, but it was connected to the router, because the satellite does not have an ethernet port. Since I spent almost 12 hours of one day either doing my own troubleshooting or being on the phone with tech support, I have not tried to reset my smart devices throughout the house to use the Orbi as the network connect. Alexa, phones, laptops, and other devices are still using an old Netgear 26 router, that does get signal from ground level to main level and to some parts of second level (directly above router). It does not reach the opposite end of the second level so the need for the Orbi network. Now it will be another 5 to 7 business days before I will receive the replacement satellite.I usually don't like warranties, but this experience may change my mind, since support is only provided for 90 days before having to pay. If I had this much trouble in the first 12 hours of opening the box, I'm really not looking forward to the next 90 days and dreading anything after the 91st day. Can recommend the parts that work, even though not as easily as advertised. Support is questionable and takes forever.

So we decided to purchase this Orbi mesh system after reading favorable reviews about it. It has delivered in all areas. The guided setup through the Orbi app was easy. The signal strength proved to be an amazing upgrade. The connection after a week or so has been stable without a disconnect yet. Well worth every penny! We have the main router centrally located in a 2000 sq ft home. This product (base station with two satellites) provides the coverage needed to run 20 devices consistently. The initial setup truly only lasted ten minutes at best. Our multilevel home never loses connection and the parental controls are great as well. I’ve tried difference routers over the years and I can say that the Orbi system is the way to go! Works on Apple, Windows and Android devices seamlessly. Please try this system ASAP!
I recommend the Orbi's to my customers that need to cover mid to larger areas. They work well. Setup, is straight forward, be patient. The Orbi system is REALLY flexible and seamless the way that they communicate. From base router to device, satellite to satellite, base router to satellite, satellite to device. All communications can be hardwired, wireless, or a mixture of both. The wireless radios in the Orbi's are pretty powerful in transmitting and receiving, regarding distance and speed. If you have a fast internet service 100 Mbps (and beyond) you will be amazed with the wireless speeds the Orbi can handle! Oh and most important, When you need support you can actually speak to a human. They are worth it.

My wife's tablet took, on the average 20 min to load her paint by numbers game. Since we placed these routers on all three floors, the load time has been cut to seconds. Installation was fairly straight forward and since I have a netgear nighthawk router I did not have to go through the account setting up situation.
