The jar is heavy and the bottom of it is a very dark gray/black color and the lid is white. Upon opening the jar I noticed that the color of the night cream was an off white/cream color. The consistency is on the thicker side, the texture is creamy and there was no noticeable scent. It immediately felt so smooth and lightweight as I applied it on my face. If you are looking for products that are organic or Clean I can say that the eye cream is Fragrance, Parabens, Phthalates, Mineral oil and Dye free. It clinically and Dermatologist Tested non comedogenic and is suitable for all skin types. As far as being able to say that this product is a clean product I don't think that you could considering it contains Retinol. Speaking of Retinol Neutrogena stats " this cream is out highest concentration cream containing 0.3% Pure Retinol. On the side of the box the cream came in not only will you find a full list of all the ingredients but you we'll also find an important notice just advising you that as with any Retinol product it is normal to temporarily experience mild redness, a warm tingling sensation, or flaking (skin exfoliation) if effects persist or cause discomfort reduce the frequency or use until your skin adjust then revert to daily use as tolerated. In case of irritation discontinue use. Avoid contact with eyes if contact occurs rinse well with water. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed seek medical assistance. Be sure to always use a sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using this product. On the back of the packaging you will find a recommended regimen with detailed directions. It advises that first you cleanse your face and neck then you can apply the cream into your face and neck massaging into skin until absorbed. It again warns that retinal is a potent ingredient and that it is not recommended for Retinol users not for beginners. But it does say that you can build up a tolerance to Retinol so during the first it recommends applying the cream 2 to 3 times during the week in the evening on non-consecutive nights. Which means do not use two days in a row or 3 days in a row use one day skip use the next day skip and use the next day and then skip. During week two you can use it every other night. And then week three plus use nightly as tolerated. It is highly advised that while using retinol you should always protect your skin during the day with a broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen or higher. This might sound like something you might not want to do or it might scare you but Retinol, a form of vitamin A is a dermatologist proven powerhouse ingredient. It also is formulated with a soothing ingredient to help minimize the potential for irritation so if you were feeling a little worried about having a reaction this can tame your anxiety a little. Also in the Box it states the rapid results which are instantaneously softer smoother skin. In one week skin feels hydrated, looks brighter and healthier and in 4 weeks see firmer look and skin and improved look of fine lines and skin tone. This moisturizer is very potent but vigorously targets the look of even deep wrinkles and stubborn dark spots. Retinol is an extremely amazing product but what really works while using retinol is the everyday long-term using of it. If you are a beginner and are following the recommended schedule and you don't see results right away or instantaneously my advice to you is to just know that the use of retinal everyday is what you need to really get the best results. If you are looking to rapidly repair your wrinkles, get rid of stubborn dark spots or are just looking to add hydration to your dull, rough, dehydrated skin then I recommend that you seriously consider purchasing The Neutrogena Retinol Pro+. If you do decide to purchase this cream keep in mind that it isn't as expensive as the top of the line creams ex... La Mer, Kiehls, Skincueticals etc... But it also isn't a $20 cream. Just started adding in. I’ve used it a total of 3 times and grabbed another jar during a good sale. I LOVE that it’s fragrance free, very important to me. The cream itself is a very thick consistency, really holds in moisture for my dry skin overnight! I DO put a light moisturizer on first, give that a few to soak in, then go in with this as my last step. I don’t want to deal with a whole lot of peeling so I’m taking this extra step at the start. After my first week and 3 uses I do have some VERY minor sensitivity under my nostril, I’m just babying it with zinc oxide to soothe; and I probably won’t go in with as much product directly in that area tonight. Overall the product feels really good, keeps moisture overnight; and is working really nicely to start off with ... MoreJust started adding in. It contains a medical grade amount of “retinol” and with that fact, with care, this could be very effective. But without great care, you can have a face with red itchy and burning blotches, very off putting and disheartening. For a better idea of how to use this, actually Google Tretinoin (Retin-A) cream. Please follow those directions. In addition, you can mix this at first with a gentle and mild moisturizer, thus diluting the strength a bit without rendering it completely ineffective. Basically, you will need to build up a tolerance but you must continue to not overuse. I appled to my eye area and upper lip religiously. After 3 weeks, my skin began exfoliating, and even somewhat tender around my eyes, but my lip showed little change. Now I have decided to slow down to every third night on my eyes and every night for my lip area. I just wish the "Apply 2-3 times on non-consecutive nights", wasn't so confusing Does that mean you get up during the night so you can apply it 2-3 times, which is crazy, and probably not what they meant!!
