I bought this scope to view boats & marine life from my 6th story oceanfront balcony. I paired it with a Magnus video tripod and the results are astounding! I was able to identify a 2'x3' flag on the back of a sailboat from over 3 miles away. It was French by the way. I could see the rigging & people, just amazing. I was able to read the name of a boat from 2 miles away. Glad I chose the angled scope, gives more viewing flexibility. The stay-on case is a little tricky to put on but it's a nice added feature. I've always sworn by Nikon for m & I am not disappointed.

I have never owned a spotting scope before but have used a few on trips and for work. This Nikon Monarch scope provides sharp views and is easy to use. On my first outing I captured a few shots and video of a Red-tailed Hawk with my phone through the lens. I appreciate the cover that came with it and the carrying strap, as it does have some weight to it, especially when combined with a tripod. Looking forward to getting outside with it more often.

Honestly the only bad thing I could think to say about this is it's made in China. Seems to be exceptionally well made however. It's bright and clear, focus is sharp and accurate. The padded case it comes with offers above adequate protection and the element is protected by a nikon camera lens cap. The integrated sun shade is also a nice touch.I dont have any similarly priced optics to compare it against, but it definitely dose not leave you feeling like you over spent when comparing to the middle of the road stuff by vortex, bushnell, lupold or even Nikon themselves. Used for hunting, bird and wildlife viewing and some amateur star gazing and have always been happy with the purchase.

Incredible optical quality, especially at the price. I’ve used Nikon glass for years as a photographer, and the quality of this scope is exactly what I’d expect from them - nothing but the best. Tack-sharp, and focusing is effortless even without the fine adjustment most scopes have. This scope definitely needs a tripod with its solid metal construction and bulky glass - but that’s what makes it reliable, durable, and I’d expect no less from Nikon. Built like a tank, just like their gold-ring lenses.
Excellent scope!! Well worth the money! I have been using it for birding, night sky viewing, whale spotting, dolphins, and anything that seems interesting. The angled version makes it easier for me to share what Im viewing and is definitely easier on my neck. 60x zoom isnt too dark to where its not usable. I normally back off just a little to make the image slightly brighter. Just a heads up. This scope and Nikons Monarch 5 10x42 binoculars fit perfectly in a Pelican 1520 case. Youll want to protect your investment. Enjoy.
The Nikon Monarch ED-82S with MEP 20-60mm fieldscope is my entree to "Digiscoping." With an iPad attached I am getting beautiful crystal-clear video of an Osprey nest 100 yards across a river from the house. And remarkable videos of Hummingbirds at their feeders. I just love it. Didn't know when I bought it that it would cause my DSLRs to get a break. This fieldscope has opened up a whole new hobby. Btw, in my research it was getting reviews comparable to far more expensive scopes.
It was either this or the equivalent Vortex scope. I chose Nikon because I am the most familiar with their product line. Digiscoping works well with the Nikon D 5500. This is a nice light camera to use. The images are very clear and sharp. It gets a little tricky past 45x. Best results are with a good tripod and pan head. We were watching a nesting eagle and I invited onlookers to observe. They were stunned by the presentation.
Love the Spotting Scope.Bought the Nikon Monarch because I was pleased with the value/performance of my Monarch 7 8x42s & because the reviews for this fieldscope are unanimously positive - that the Nikon Monarchs compare favorably to more expensive models.I haven't done a meticulous evaluation, but to my eyes the brightness, color, field of view and quality of construction are all near-perfect.Never ordered from visions before, but the order arrived within limits (for a "Special Order" item) & and at a price which still beats anything I've seen.Order arrived in fine condition - my only complaint is that it was packaged a bit casually - in an oversized audio equipment box with a single piece of crumpled paper for padding.
I was fortunate to get this model used, although it really appeared brand new.I got it just in time to get a viewing of the RARE Steller's Sea Eagle that has taken up residence here in Maine. It is an excellent scope. Not too heavy considering the ability. The focus dial feels like it is in an awkward spot, I'm still getting comfortable with it. I appreciate the covers for the lens and eyepiece, but they are a bit cumbersome. Otherwise, I recommend this if you are looking for a good magnification at a good price. Plus, the Nikon service is over and above.
Bought this model on the suggestion of a cousin who worked professionally in the bird monitoring field for many years. So far, we are very happy. It was easy to set up and has provided us excellent views of distant waterfowl. The only negative I've experienced is that the focus has to be adjusted after zooming in. We usually scan at 20X, then zoom in when we spot something. It would be nice if the focus stayed the same, but maybe that's not possible. I also find it a bit har to get the focus right at the 60X magnification.
