On a targeted photo mission, I'll put a variety of appropriate lenses in my bag. On a photography hike or a trip to unfamiliar territory, I'll take a do everything, wide-range zoom. But when I go out with photography as a secondary purpose, I want the smallest, lightest, mid-range lens I can find. This is it. It's also fast enough for indoor, available-light and wide enough for street. The plastic mount doesn't offer the satisfying click or water resistance of some other Z-mount lenses, but you can't beat the price.

I thought I would be happy with using the FMount Lenes with my Nikon Z50, I found that I wanted to go a bit wider than my widest Nikon AF-S prime would take me, so after studying this lens for a few weeks, I pushed the button and bought it. I am surprisingly pleased with the lens - I am old school and do not want to see my FMounts go to the back of the line, however, this little lens it excellent! The clarity and undistorted results are just what I was looking for! This lens is helping me accept the transition to mirrorless!Next Stop Nikon Z8? (I hope soon!)

Got this lens to use it with my Z 30 for street photography and black & white photos and I'm happy with results .It's good for all indoor and food/small objects photos as well .Performed fine while taking shot and videos walking in a forest but if you are interested in landscape and open space photography like kids playing in a backyard this lens is not what you want to buy . More direct sunlight it worst it gets . I have 40 mm f/2 too . It's a little better but for general photography buy DX 18-140 mm f/3.5-6.3 .Although for me it's a keeper .

The Nikon 28mm f2.8 Z lens is amazing in many ways. First and foremost it's light weight which is perfect for travel. Build quality could of been better by adding metal components to the lens vs plastic. However it still works great and it is super sharp for the money it's worth. In conclusion it is worth every penny and I highly recommend the lens to anyone seeking a nice and compact lens that does the job at 28mm. It even works for a portrait lens!
Bought this as my second Z-mount lens after picking up a Z7ii and the 40mm f/2 version of this lens, the pictures are nice and sharp, but it does have a slightly noticeable vignette at the widest aperture. It's very compact and makes for a great "adventure" lens. Only cons I've noticed are that the body and mount are primarily made of plastic and there doesn't appear to be any weather sealing, but for the price you can't really complain! Definitely a great lens for the money!
I purchased this lens after seeing some spectacular photos taken with it on the Nikon Z50 Facebook group. This lens is small and light and makes for a compact kit mounted on the Z50. The pictures taken are sharp and those with leading lines are interesting due to the amount of additional scenery is added to the frame. Looking forward to using this lens for night street photography.
An incredible small all-purpose lens! Unlike the 40mm F2 which I love as well, this one is sharp wide open at minimum focus distance. I thought it was too wide and first returned it, but bought it again for casual landscape/ nature shots when I'm going on short trips and pack lightly. Also, love the rendering of this and 40mm (microcontrast?).
Long wait for a native 28mm lens for the Z system. Although I knew this is a "standard quality" lens, I have been very surprised by the IQ on such a small and light package. Sharper than my legendary 24-70mm f2.8G at @28mm, it delivers great images with really minimal weight. Colors not as contrasty and rich as that zoom (which I feel is pretty warm) but it gives some nice, cool, real life tones. Nothing that can't be adjusted in Lr to your preference. Enjoying this glass a lot, great indoor performance (bump up ISO) gives a superb, intimate reportage look to your pictures, and a very classic old school perspective at the street. Portraits are amazing, as I like to show some context in them, and here this focal length shines. Not as wide and distorted as 24mm but ... MoreLong wait for a native 28mm lens for the Z system. I'm summary, superb little lens suited to everyday shooting which can also withstand a more dedicated Pro use. Cheers!
disappointed...I do mostly macro work and this lens is NOT for macro work. the closer you get, the more it hunts. If you use this lens on a Z camera, you have to download software to make it compatible with your camera and you download by tethering your camera to your computer. Another strike against it. Wound up putting a 16-50 DX lens on a Z and captured a much better image. And to think this lens is a 2.8 and can't hold a candle to a 3.5Now for the return action. And I have to tell you this.I bought this lens at the Edgewood Best Buy. Well let me tell you that the customer service at returns there SUCKS!! Having worked in a customer service environment, I can tell you that there was NO customer focus and rather than mince words with the two associates at the ... Moredisappointed...I do mostly macro work and this lens is NOT for macro work. the closer you get, the more it hunts.
