Create something unique with the Nikon Z f. The Z f combines the classic design of analogue Nikon cameras with the cutting-edge technology of the Z series for forward-thinking performance. The full-frame 24.5-megapixel CMOS sensor and EXPEED 7 engine are perfectly matched. Together with the high light output offered by the large diameter Z bayonet, they give you more creative freedom. It runs the Deep Learning AF algorithms, thanks to which the Z f can detect and track more subjects than any other mirrorless camera system. It also enables the enormously powerful VR with 8.0 EV stops. EXPEED 7 is also behind the clear, noise-free images at high ISO.

First I wanted to start by stating I got into the SLR game in the Nikon D300 days. I had used an old canon film camera from my father’s time before. I love the ergonomics of modern cameras from D300 and on, however I have a special place for the design of classic camera design. I loved the Nikon Zfc which I own. So when I heard we were getting full frame, much of the same hardware from z8/9, new features and then a solidly designed and built enclosure, I was in. I sold the z7 ii as I didn’t really need the extra MP all the time.Hello Zf. The thing I love most about it is that it is a joy to shoot with and want to bring out. The quality of the camera and the results it brings are so good. Even people who are not familiar with cameras love shooting with it.

Received my Zf from B&H on 10/15/23. First impression ... about the same weight as my Z6ii. Much better build and seems quite a bit heavier than my Zfc. Feels good in my hands. Also got the SmallRig grip which I will probably use more than I first thought. Definitely recommend the grip. Will use the grip with my heavier and longer Z lenses. Amazingly beautiful camera and I'm loving the speed of the autofocus. Also really enjoyed the B&W switch during my street shooting. Looking forward to many photo adventures with it. Fun camera that brings back the days of my youth when I was shooting an SLR. Back to the Future, indeed!

Since I grew up in the 60's and 70's using traditional SLR cameras, the Zf was a welcome innovation for me. I still have the muscle memory of analogue photography, so the Nikon Zf was literally a dream come true. I had high hopes for the Zfc, but it's construction left me a bit wanting. The Zf is a robust camera with some great innovations that make it such a pleasure to use. It feels very natural in my hands. My only wish is for Nikon to bring back the aperture ring (the real thing, with direct, mechanical aperture control and detents) on the lens. But, if not, there are options with either the F lens adapter or third party lenses. If you yearn for that old film camera feel, but appreciate the digital workflow, this could be the camera for you.

Exceptional Image Quality
31 October 2023

I do a lot of international travels so it's not convenient to carry my D850 just for street photography so for years, I had to use a Fuji X100V which is not bad. I have been waiting for Nikon to release a full sensor compact Z camera and when they announced it, I jumped at it. My limited testing has indicated that the image quality maybe even better than my D850. I plan to use the Zf extensively for travel street photography and purchased both the 28mm and 40mm lenses for it. Oh what really sold me is the Zf has a mechanical shutter! Make sure you turn it on using one of the menu options, as it defaults to OFF. Finally a Z camera that almost feels like my D850 minus the through the lens metering/view.

Great retro camera with all modern conveniences
5 November 2023

The ZF is the camera I have been waiting for. The full frame sensor is the same sensor as the z6II which isn't a bad thing - great low-light performance and with the Expeed7, I find the performance for wildlife photography works for me. Landscape photography really works well. I like the having the manual controls on the camera and find it quicker for me to quickly set my controls (great through back to my film days). I just wish there were an extra function button or dedicated AF-On button. Its a great camera for me.

Just what I was waiting for!

Years ago I purchased the DF and really enjoyed classic styling having all those dials to manually making settings. I used it for a couple of years and as times changed I started using other cameras and had it away. Well, recently I had taken out and starting using it again and was thinking why did I stop. I thought, if Nikon would make the DF in a full frame mirrorless version I would certainly get it. Withing a couple of days of this Nikon announced the ZF and naturally I preordered it from my favorite store, B&H. Funny thing was I received it before its announced delivery date! I have only been using it for a couple weeks and have enjoyed every minute. The high ISO is Extremely clean and the autofocus simply amazing. I know the trade off was image quality, but it not giving me any issues. For now, I'm taking a deep dive into the menus.A must have is the SmallRig grip, which makes shooting more comfortable. And for a LCD protector I contacted Expert Shield for a glass protector. They told me their glass protector for the Z8/Z9 is the exact same size, which it is.

Met All My Expectations
29 October 2023

I have been waiting for an upgrade to the Z6ii. I have saved money for the purchase but became impatient. Decided to buy the ZF. The retro look was not important (I have the Z FC) but the inside features seemed to meet my requirements for a future Z6iii. To say I am thrilled with the new technology would be an understatement. The AF is outstanding making quick, in focus event photos the rule. It locks on so quickly my keeper rate is huge. The other featues are just bonuses, but very welcome. Buy it while you have the chance.

Sexiest Mirrorless Camera Ever
7 November 2023

Prior to owning the Zf, I was using the original Nikon Z6. Great camera with good handling, image quality and displays, but its autofocus was lackluster and it didn't really spark anything in me. It really didn't have anything special. The Zf changed that. It inspires me to go out and take pictures. The camera looks beautiful and classy, styled after the legendary fm2. The handling is different than my Z6, of course, but easy to get used to. Using dials definitely slows you down, but you can also use it as a typical dslr camera with the front and back dials. I did feel that the tiny grip was not enough for me; I had troubles balancing longer lenses, like the z 24-120 f4, which is why I purchased the smallgrip grip. Using dials definitely slows you down, but you can also use it as a typical dslr camera with the front and back dials. I did feel that the tiny grip was not enough for me; I had troubles balancing longer lenses, like the z 24-120 f4, which is why I purchased the smallgrip grip. Many have criticized the PSAM lever, but I personally find it useful and convenient. The dials feel very high quality, and the body feels solid overall, like my Z6. The EVF is pretty good, very detailed and bright, and the flip screen, although not my cup of tea (I prefer tilt screens), you get used to it. There is a caveat in usability however, and that is the auto ISO. Unless you customize a button, there is no handy way of setting your camera to auto ISO without getting into the menu. When ISO dial is set to C, it lets you control the iso through the touch screen, and if you set auto iso on the menu and then move iso dial, auto ISO won't disable, and it will override the dial. Annoying quirk that can be fixed via firmware update.IQ is the same as the z6 and z6mk2, which is lovely. High ISO performance is excellent, and I feel very comfortable going above 12800. The IBIS is much improved; i can get to 1/6 of a second on a 50mm lens. But it goes beyond that, Nikon introduced Pixel Shift for the first time in this camera; you can get 96mp files. It does not build the composite in camera, however, you'll have to use Nikon's NX studio for that. The autofocus is a game changer for me. When using the Z6, I struggled with eye recognition, constantly losing the eye and forcing me to recompose, especially when the lighting is not ideal. And tracking? Unusable. If I wanted to photograph a fast-moving subject, I would have to go to Dynamic Area mode which was more effective but not modern or perfect. The Nikon zf is excellent in this regard. The af always goes to the eye tenaciously and accurately. It also has a very good anime eye detect. It also has 3D tracking, which I always use for moving subjects and it is very effective. The storage on this camera has raised some criticism. It has dual slot, but one slot is for micro sd and they are not the same speed, as one is UHS-ii and the micros sd slot is USH-i. I get it; it is not as good as having dual sd slots, but I far prefer this solution than Sony a7cii's single sd slot. I guess this can accrued to the fact that it doesn't have a grip in which to put the battery and memory card in. It is the price to pay for going retro, I guess. The Nikon zf really is the perfect camera for me, I really enjoy using. And that is one of the main reasons you buy retro-styled cameras, for the experience. It checks all the boxes for me. All in all, I think is one the best cameras out there for the price (definitely the best looking one).

Well thought out
17 October 2023

Knobs may slow you down a little but at a glance you know right where you are with your settings. Got mine with 40mm that I absolutely love. Focus is decently close and f2 gives you lovely shallow DOF. Adapted 40mm Voitlander 1.2 and at f2 they are equally sharp. Manual focus with the Voitlander is a breeze with wide area and people set it shows you right to the eyes so you can punch in and nail focus at f1.2. Longer lenses such as my 24-120 will probably need additional grip. All my lighter primes (35,50,85 f1.8) balance perfectly. This camera brings joy back into my photography and really that’s what it is all about.

love this camera
19 October 2023

I received it two days ago and did a client shoot yesterday. So fast, so flexible. I love the retro look and feel. Took me back to when I shot film on an OM2 but with an insane amount of tech stuffed in there. I reviewed the photos today. I was shooting the interior of a canvas tent at the end of the day and the lighting a details is awesome. No flash or strobes, just the fixed 40mm 2.8. So excited to have this rig!
