I had to wait on the Z-TC 1.4 since it was backordered but it was worth it.I paired it with my new Z100-400 lens primarily for capturing lacrosse images. Lacrosse can be difficult to photograph since it is fast moving, lots of erratic motion and helmets make eye detection very difficult for autofocus. The Z9 and the 100-400 work great (with some practice) but I was concerned that the teleconverter might cause some lag in focus and a degradation in image quality. That turned out to be a totally false apprehension. The images are sharp and I rarely had a picture out of focus. I was able to capture some really tight shots even when shooting across the field. It will probably stay attached to this lens any time I am shooting sports.

I was happy to find this particular TC-1.4 with the Z-mount to rent. I have had one on order for months, and had given up hope I would have it available for my trip. The packaging was outstanding and it was delivered two days early! Great job. The downside of this rental was that I never had the occasion to actually use the teleconverter, but it was a comfort to have it available it I needed it.

I received the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x about two weeks ago and finally had a chance to take it for a test drive ------ wow, I was pleasantly surprised. I went to the zoo with a Nikon Z7 II camera and a Z 100-400mm zoom lens with the TC-1.4x teleconverter attached. I shot all the images racked out to 400mm (so 560mm with the teleconverter) and all images at f/11. I was a bit apprehensive and expected to see image degradation due to the teleconverter, but I was wrong; the images were beautiful. I couldn't be happier with the teleconverter performance. I highly recommend the converter.

The focus hunting was not as bad as I thought it would be, but I think I need to work on my technique for birds in flight. If I were you and was shooting Nikon Z cameras and owned either the 80-200mm or 100-400mm Z mount lenses I would consider this for my camera bag.

I would not use the teleconverter for night games; I would use the 400mm zoom lens with the FTZ adapter instead with the Z6 body. A 300-400 zoom lens with a Z-mount would be ideal.
The first review I wrote was using my Z6 shooting the Z 100-400mm zoom. This time I was using my Z6 II with the 100-400mm zoom and the MD N-11 battery grip. If anything, the Z6 II with the battery grip gave me a much nicer sense of balance with the 1.4 X teleconverter mounted to the lens. It was another breezy day here in Florida and the added weight helped keep things stable. Now that I am getting used to the teleconverter I am finding I am getting more consistent results. I shot everything from bugs to birds in flight and the results speak for themselves. The teleconverter is going to be a permanent fixture on the Z6 II with the 100-400mm zoom and battery grip!
I bought this teleconverter to go with a Nikon Z 100-400mm /4.5-56 S lens and a Nikon Z 70-200 /2.8 S lens. It works great on both lenses. The resulting images appear to be sharp from corner to corner. For those new to teleconverters, this TC reduces the depth of field by 30%, which adds to the bokeh effect of your image. You do lose 1 f/stop of light. The TC retains all of the camera's pixel counts, autofocus, vibration reduction, minimum focusing distances, and works all the way down to f/11.
This product is the perfect weight and space saver, when you need just a little bit more reach. Put it in the camera bag a few months ago before needing to use it and glad it was there when I did. I can't detect any degradation of the image, and sharpness is maintained from the center to the edges. Guess it's no surprise that Nikon optics is top notch. Not sure I'll ever be able to use this successfully on other lenses, but on the 70-200mm, it's excellent.
