Applied this to two very sad old Gortex jackets.Instructions where straight forward and easy, I simply washed in the Nikwax detergent and whilst still damp (allowed them to dry a bit so the spray absorbed) then sprayed on the Nikwax TX. One bottle easily covered a man’s jackets and Womens tramping Kathmandu coat both with hoods. I had them hanging on hangers outside on washing line so they dripped a bit onto the lawn. Then allowed the sun to dry them as I don’t have a dryer. I dabbed them with soft cloth where they had excess drips. Results were very satisfying.

Have some old waterproofs for golf that have been washed a number of times and lost their proofing. Used the spray on jacket and trousers and played in pretty torrential rain. My suit remained totally waterproof. Would definitely use again.

Great little product for topping up the waterproofing on your clothes, especially around the seams. I like Nikwax because its supposedly biodegradable. However it does need frequent reproofing because the protection doesnt last very long, I find I have to use the wash-in and then top up with the spray for optimal results, and even then theyll only last for a couple of rainy day walks. Like I say great for topping up the protection in those stubborn spots though!

I bought this about 2 weeks ago. It does exactly as explained. After I sprayed down, I threw it in the dryer for about 10 minutes and haven’t had any issues. The reason I am only giving 4 stars is because I only had enough for 1 large and 1 small. You might need to buy more if you are costing larger garments- I was only able to fully coat 2 garments even though it advertised up to 3. Overall quality wise, it’s great. It smells a little like vinegar but that goes away without any dwr coming off.
This is great stuff for waterproofing any technical waterproof gear that has lost all or some of it waterproof capabilities. I had an old goretex jacket that was starting to retain water. I first washed it with the nikwax tecnical wash. It came out really clean. And I water already started beading on it. But just to add the final touch I used both the Nikwax wash in and spray on.. and it is a good as new. I have also used this on other waterproof and resistant gear, jackets hats etc and even without washing in Nikwax wash or wash in. .. the Direct spray on has really done its job.
I am VERY PLEASED with the results, but you have to follow the directions. If you don't have a dryer, I am not sure you would get the proper results. I treated several arcteryx gore tex jackets, a gore tex rain pants, and a Sunderland waterproof and breathable non-gore tex golf jacket. I washed my items with Nikwax Tech Wash (shake it first) in warm water. I then shook out the excess water from the garments, hung the garments on a hanger outside and sprayed Nikwax TX Direct liberally all over the garments, I let them air dry outside for about 5 minutes on the hanger -- this allowed gravity to take care of a lot of the excess as it just ran down the garment to the ground. I turned the garments INSIDE OUT and put them in the dryer for 50 minutes on medium-low. I think ... MoreI am VERY PLEASED with the results, but you have to follow the directions. Then I hung up the garments outside for a few hours to 'air out' and you are good to go -- and the smell is gone.Water beads nicely. If it does not last in excess of 6 months of my type of wear the tear, I will be back to report my dissappointment.
I’m an outdoorsman, that lives close to one of our high elevation mountain ranges. The winters can be summarized as wet and cold.I’ve used different manufacturers products that claim to be waterproof!Without success.NIKWAX (tx.direct) waterproofing is the best on the market. To be realistic, try this on your outdoor clothing and you won’t be disappointed.
Just got back from a snow adventure and all of our gear stayed very dry after we treated with Nikwax earlier last month. We washed our waterproof gear with Nikwax Tech Wash and then after it was clean, we sprayed heavily with TX.Direct and let dry. While hiking in the snow, when water hit my jacket, it would just bead off exactly like you want to see. Not sure why some people have mixed results, but my guess is that they don't first properly clean the garment with Tech Wash before adding in the waterproofing.
For all the complainers that their gear still wets out you either don’t understand how rain and body sweat work or you have unreasonable expectations. When applied as instructed the product works well. I do A LOT of volunteer trail crew with WTA. We regularly work in cold wet weather. When you are getting rained on from the outside and exerting your body and sweating from the inside NOTHING will keep you dry except camp living on fort couch.
lots of reviews are "follow the directions." well, here's my experience with following the directions and what i did to actually get a great result. i have an enlightened equipment visp. after a colorado trail thru hike, it needed some revitalization. i got the nikwax tech wash and filled a clean sink with about 2 gallons of hot water. i poured in 2 oz of wash. i proceeded to hand agitate the jacket for a solid 15 minutes. i then drained the sink and filled with 2 gallons of cold water. i agitated in the rinse water for 15 minutes. i repeated the rinse process an additional 3 more times. i allowed the jacket to dry overnight hoping that the wash would restore it. a test the following day revealed that water did not bead and the exterior still wet out. i then ... Morelots of reviews are "follow the directions." well, here's my experience with following the directions and what i did to actually get a great result. i have an enlightened equipment visp. after a colorado trail thru hike, it needed some revitalization. i got the nikwax tech wash and filled a clean sink with about 2 gallons of hot water. i poured in 2 oz of wash. i proceeded to hand agitate the jacket for a solid 15 minutes. i then drained the sink and filled with 2 gallons of cold water. i agitated in the rinse water for 15 minutes. i repeated the rinse process an additional 3 more times. i allowed the jacket to dry overnight hoping that the wash would restore it. a test the following day revealed that water did not bead and the exterior still wet out. i then repeated the whole cycle again. this time, while the jacket was damp i applied the tx.direct according to the directions on the bottle. i let that dry for several hours in a windy, shady spot outdoors. a quick splash test and there was no improvement. next i applied the tx.direct on the jacket while it was dry. that dried for another few hours. a quick splash test and i saw some improvement, but it was not ideal. i had about one more application in the bottle and decided to give it one more shot. i repeated the application on the dry jacket and it was allowed to dry for at least 4 hours. testing showed marginal improvement. i was dejected and almost accepted that the jacket would just wet out. it had never soaked through, so it would still serve its purpose. later that night after it had been hanging indoors for a couple more hours, i tested and it was still the same. i finally decided i would give it a could heating with a hair drier. the jacket instructions say to tumble dry, no heat. the nikwak instructions make no mention of heating, but i have read that heating sometimes reactivates dwr on some products. i had nothing to lose really. i set the hair drier on high and gently blew hot air through the sleeves, the body, the hood. inside and out. moving constantly, making sure to never allow the jacket to actually get hot. blew dry for about 20 minutes. tested and miracle of miracles, water shed off the thing like off a duck's back. when i need to do it again, i think i'll do one wash, air dry overnight, one application, air dry, and then give it a good heat dry with the hair drier. i make no warranties that this will work for anyone else. i suspect that all fabrics and dwr restoration products all work different together. use common sense, experiment a little, and who knows.
