I am extremely disappointed with the performance of this particular washing material. I used it for my Vaude/Mammut jackets, following the washing recommendations precisely. I used a delicate program and set the temperature to 30 degrees as instructed. However, the washing machine's interior became sticky, and all my clothes were covered in countless small, stubborn goops, impossibly to remove, causing me great frustration.in the past I have used similar products without any issues, although I cannot recall their specific brands.(unfortunately) I strongly advise against purchasing this particular washing material!!!!

It really works!
8 July 2023

I got this recently when needed to waterproof several windbreaker jackets. Was a bit skeptical but since it did not cost an exhorbatent amount I figured it was cheaper than getting new jackets. Followed the easy to read instructions and "Presto!" the jackets came out just looking good. A few days later son wore one of the jackets while going out to his car during a heavy rainstorm. Below the waste not cover by the jacket and was soaked. His torso was dry as a bone. The treatment worked as advertised.

Like New Again

I swear by this. Use the tech was and then use this, and your rain jacket or waterproof garment is like new again! Most people tend to thing that waterproofing begins to fall apart or stop working after a while and claim they are getting wet. When in reality the waterproof layer is on the inside of the jacket and the wetting out they are seeing is the outer layer fabric designed for abrasion resistance soaking up water after the DWR coating wares down. The breathable membrane also becomes clogged preventing the moisture from escaping. Meaning they see the outer layer soaking up water and they feel their sweat, leading them to think the garment is no longer waterproof. Restores Water Repellency
5 January 2023

We just finished treating a few rain and snow garments using two different methods to see which worked best. We used the TX.Direct Spray On and we also used this TX.Direct Wash-In. Both the spray-on and the wash-in worked just like a charm and we honestly couldn't tell any difference between the two. Once the jackets were dry, we poured water on all the garments and all of the garments that we treated did not allow any of the water to soak on the surface and instead rolled right off. We did follow Nikwax's directions and ran a full wash cycle first with Nikwax Tech Wash to "prep" the surface of the garment before adding in waterproofing. It seems like as long as you first clean with Tech Wash, either TX.Direct (spray on or wash-in) will restore the water repellency ... MoreWe just finished treating a few rain and snow garments using two different methods to see which worked best. The industry standard DWR treatment, ok longevity
3 April 2024

This is the standard waterproof DWR treatment for most outdoor and active wear products. Its easy to apply, either in a bucket or in the washing machine. You can also spray it on but I find it most effective to soak and dry in the washer/dryer. Its quite expensive and can cost a decent amount to waterproof your gear, especially if you have a few large items to retreat. My only concern is that it works best when its dried in the dryer on high heat but most technical fabrics don't do well with heat so playing it safe often results in fast wearing DWR. It also never quite works as well as the factory coating so I often have to apply at least once per year for high use garments.

This is my first time
4 February 2024

This is my first time trying Nikwax - previously I have only used Grangers. First, my experience with the product: It doesn't seem to bead rain very well. I went hiking in a PNW winter rain and by the end of my 1hr hike, it was soaking through. I think it's important, however, to note that I had some issues receiving my product. It arrived frozen solid and leaking all over, presumably due to the shipping company used. I immediately let Altitude know and they offered 10% refund (3.00) or to return it in the mail. I obviously wasn't going to return it so took the money. After this ordeal, I noticed on the Nikwax website that the product should never freeze, so Im not sure if the performance I am experiencing is due to that or if its just sub-par to Grangers.

Useless product - not fit for purpose

Having used the tech wash then this product as per instructions to try and reproof my tin cloth rain jacket, I found the coat actually less waterproof than before. I got totally soaked, albeit in heavy rain, over 100 metres. That was the distance to the shop to which I reported the problem, to be met with a couldn’t care less rather rude response. Back home I emailed customer care about the problem. The email wasn’t even acknowledged, never mind replied to. This was about a year ago and, finding you’ve still got this product on sale, I thought I’d try again. I can only surmise that most of the good reviews had tested their coats in rain. no buy til Nikwax resolves issue
28 July 2022

I've been using Nikwax for over 30 years and I have never had any issues. Fast forward to this year, using Tech Wash and TX.Direct has created spots, like oil spots (descriptive since it isn't oil based or anything, but you get the point) on several articles of clothes now: two The North Face FUTURELIGHT jackets, and two Montbell Gore-Tex Infinium rain jackets have spotting issues after using Tech Wash and TX. Direct. Rewashing with regular detergent and regular water did not resolve the issue. Nikwax hasn't provided a response, although TNF warrantied one jacket when I thought it was a one off issue with TNF jacket, but given the issue persisted with three other jackets, I'm narrowing it to Nikwax as the culprit. Oddly, a Gore-Tex Paclite Plus and Dry.Q rain pants did not exhibit the spotting despite being washed in the same load as the two Gore-Tex Infinium and FUTURELIGHT jackets. The spotting doesn't seem to affect waterproofing, since I did a water test in the area of spotting and there was no leakage. Not sure if affects breathability in those areas. Aesthetically it looks bad. Don't know if it is going to be permanent or temporary. I may return the jackets to see if the companies will warranty, which TNF did for the first jacket previously. Don't know if this is an odd chemical reaction or what to the inner layer, but given that Gore-Tex Paclite Plus is 2.5L and Dry.Q is 2.5L and didn't suffer from spotting, while Gore-Tex Infinium is 2L and FUTURELIGHT is 3L which did suffer from spotting, I don't see anything consistent about the issue. If it was a washing and drying technique issue (after over 30 years of use with no issues I can't see that as culprit), then it should have affected the two rain pants, too.
