AF400UK or 2 single airfryers better

One aspect worth noting is the side panel for the touchscreen, which protrudes out the side, leaving empty space behind it. This design choice prompts the thought that it might have been more practical to widen the unit so its flush with panel as space behind doesn't help with much.Positives:The trays they provide are of good fit/idea, prompting me to consider purchasing similar ones for my AF400, as they are not included with the double stack. (so not down to machine)The larger baskets offer more space lengthwise compared to the AF400, making them better suited for items like flatbreads/pizza's that would typically need to be halved in the AF400. This highlights the benefits of having a larger air fryer capacity rather then twovsmaller basketsNegatives:The positioning of the elements at the back, rather than on top like in most air fryers, along with the small holes in the baskets, results in inefficient cooking. It takes longer to cook and heat up compared to my AF400.Additionally, I suspect that the design leads to energy wastage, with only some of the energy effectively reaching the food. (not scientifaclly checked)The cooking is inconsistent, as evidenced by uneven cooking of items placed in the basket. This inconsistency is particularly concerning... put in a nan bread and half near the holes was too done compare to other half. The controls feel clunky compared to the smoother operation of the AF400. Having to press a separate button on the menu to start cooking is a minor annoyance and feels like a step backward in terms of usability wheras AF400 twist temprture and same dial press in to start. The presence of holes in the baskets limits the types of foods that can be cooked, particularly wet foods. While some may suggest using additional baskets, I question how effective this solution would be, considering the potential for further inconsistencies and longer cooking times of holes and hot air needing to comein up and down into basket to cook food.Concerns about the durability of the double stack arise due to the design flaws, particularly the potential for fats and food particles to accumulate in the holes, potentially leading to issues outside of the warranty period. (i'm sure they will say its fine but i'm doubtful)Overall, the double stack seems to fall short in many basic aspects and is only passable as a device. While it may suffice in scenarios where space is limited, I personally would prefer either two smaller air fryers or reverting to the trusted af400 formula.

I love, love, love, Ninja Airfryers. I previously had the twin drawer AF400, but the new double stack, is even better. For me having the air vents at the side, is a big bonus. The controls are easy to use, as ever, and the twin tones of grey and black, demonstrates that this is a well thought out, essential, piece of kitchen equipment. The twin drawers allow me to do a full Sunday roast, for 4. It's a doddle to clean, I just remove the grills from the drawers and pop them in the dishwasher. Easy. Now I know that there will be some readers who are considering in buying their first air fryer, and don't know what to go for. Or more to the point, whether you will use it enough. Honestly, I barely use my oven at all, since having an air fryer. An air fryer will do 95% of everything that you could do in a frying pan and conventional oven. But the best thing is, you are not wasting time and energy waiting for the oven to heat up. Since using my Ninja, my energy smart meter tells me that I am using just under 50% electricity, than I used to, before having it. My tip is - pay that little bit extra and go for the Ninja Double stack. I live on my own and often just use one drawer and whilst that's sitting in the dishwasher, ready to be washed, I have the second drawer, at the ready, to be used. Then conversely when I do have friends and family over, I exploit the full use of both drawers, knowing full well that I can use the separators, to cook 4 different foods.

I was initially really excited by the stack design as I have limited counter top space. The unit appeared to be of good quality and sturdy but one drawer front did not sit quite flush / line up to the main casing. After positioning the unit, I realised that its long depth would prohibit me from pulling out the drawer and fully placing it immediately in front of the unit. I would need counter space either side in order to set it down, which I don't have. If you are using the bottom drawer and just want to add anything (seasoning etc) mid cook, the top drawer handle would really get in the way so, again, you'd need space either side ... MoreJust to preface my review, I did not actually use this air fryer to cook anything but these are my findings that caused me to return it. I didn't like the layout of the control panel as the top part has the Time / Temp in that order but it is reversed as Temp / Time in the bottom part of the panel. Not exactly intuitive but I guess you'd get used to it. I did switch the unit on and thought the fan noise was so much louder than my old Ninja Foodi MAX 15 in 1 cooker. I also found a lot of negative reviews and videos on Youtube regarding uneven cooking due to the fan & element being at the back causing hotspots front to back. I wish I'd seen these before I bought the stack model but, unfortunately, I rushed ahead without doing a full research. Whilst the Double Stack has some advantages, having the fan at the back is clearly a design flaw and for that reason I returned it for a refund.

Ive been waiting patiently for this new Double Stack XL Air Fryer from Ninja to be released! The wait is over!I am now a proud owner of a Ninja product!I have finally joined the Air Fryer family lol this cooks food beautifully. It's fast and efficient, I'm still getting used to the shorter cooking time, the air fryer is very easy to use plus the accompanying 44 page guide with instructions, recipes, tips and tricks is very helpful, Ninja you thought of everything.I've definitely made the correct choice! The two drawers are interchangeable, there are set times and temperatures where some are customisable to each individual drawer, the sync option is clever when using 2 drawers, the removable crisper plates can be set to two heights, in addition Ninja provide metal racks for each drawer. So you can create two layers in each drawer, all are easily removed for washing. The drawers and crisper plates are dishwasher proof, I've hand washed them for now to extend the super effective, non stick coating on the insides of drawers, all in all a very happy customer !My only gripe is the notification tone, I wish this could be changed to a softer tone?Hats off to the design team for a well designed and thought out product! I'm impressed! I've never owned a Shark/Ninja product before!I'm pleased you are also using environmentally friendly packaging too, no plastic packaging A*Thank you Shark/Ninja, I'm very pleased with my purchase ❤️

My experience with the Double Stack XL
1 September 2024

We have a competitors all in one cooker (air fryer, slow cooker, pressure cooker etc) and while the air fryer part of it works well, its quite small which makes it difficult to multiple things at once, so we’ve always liked the idea of a dual drawer air fryer, but not the footprint of them given we have a small kitchen. We’ve been eyeing up the Double Stack XL for a while as it ticks a lot of boxes, but the price put us off. Thankfully, we managed to purchase a factory refurbished model from Ninja’s eBay store for much cheaper, so we decided to take a punt.First off, where this lives on our kitchen worktop is the perfect position given that vent positions of the oven are at the rear and to the right of the unit, so if someone has a small kitchen, you may need to ... MoreWe have a competitors all in one cooker (air fryer, slow cooker, pressure cooker etc) and while the air fryer part of it works well, its quite small which makes it difficult to multiple things at once, so we’ve always liked the idea of a dual drawer air fryer, but not the footprint of them given we have a small kitchen. We’ve been eyeing up the Double Stack XL for a while as it ticks a lot of boxes, but the price put us off. Although I have found that the bottom fan does make a loud vibrating noise but this may be indicative of it being a refurb model, but I don’t believe this is right, so I’ll be reaching out to Ninja customer care about this.Cooking is good, providing you turn/shake your food often to ensure an even cooking. Yes, the front is hotter but as long as you turn the food or move it around often or even halfway through the cook, you won’t have a problem.I see many reviews of people slating it’s unevenness, but I have a strong feeling they haven’t read the instructions properly or they’ve proceeded to use it like their old unit expecting it’ll be the same. Given how this air fryer is designed, with the main purpose of saving on worktop space, then there will of course be a compromise in having to give it a shake now and again. I feel Ninja make this clear in their booklet in ensuring that turning often is needed for the best experience. The biggest annoyance I’ve found, is the beeping. It’s so loud! I think Ninja should incorporate the option to lower the volume of it.Overall, I’m satisfied for what I paid for it (£150) it isn’t perfect but it does the job well.

NINJA Double Stack XL 9.5L SL400UK Air Fryer

Overall a good product, here are a few pro’s and con’s:The unit is pleasing on the eye and of good quality, no more than you would expect for a premium priced appliance. The double stack design does indeed take up less space on the worktop however, careful thought needs to be considered when deciding where to position it. The control panel juts out from the right hand side and can be a bit fiddly to operate especially temp/time which are very close to the main function button. I find I need to place my hand behind the panel and operate with thumb so enough space needs to be provided to the right of the appliance to get your hand in. The unit also vents to the right so bear this in mind if using near a hob, extractor fan or in a corner. The draws are of a ... MoreOverall a good product, here are a few pro’s and con’s:The unit is pleasing on the eye and of good quality, no more than you would expect for a premium priced appliance. The unit also vents to the right so bear this in mind if using near a hob, extractor fan or in a corner. The draws are of a manageable size, sturdy and have solid grip handles. The capacity is ample and the option of double stack cooking in each draw is a real bonus. Crisper plates are easy to remove and clean. Food can drop through the plates and needs to be removed after each use to avoid burning, I find lining the very bottom of the draws with baking paper helps to keep them clean. Draws cannot be filled for deep soak cleaning due to the perforations in the back of them. The control panel isn’t as intuitive as other models however, there is a great range of cooking options and after a few uses becomes second nature. I find the function beeps are far too loud, would be great if they could be turned off altogether.Unit heats up rapidly so no need to preheat. Temp can reach 240 on max crisp setting which is great for browning food quickly. Heat is supplied through the back of each draw. This sometimes results in uneven cooking with food browning faster towards the front of the draws. This can mean having to occasionally move food around to achieve a consistent result. The unit arrives with a comprehensive but easy to follow set up guide, along with a temp/time guide and few simple recipes. Delivered quickly and in totally plastic free packaging…well done SharkNinja 👍

This is my first airfryer, although I use my mum-in-law’s ‘brand X’ one, so I’m not a first time user.I bought my 1st Ninja Doublestack in May 2024. Found it cooked unevenly. I phoned customer service, who were very helpful & they went through all the troubleshooting with me. They said uneven cooking wasn’t something they’d heard about & as I was doing everything right, the machine must be faulty. I got my replacement Doublestack quickly, no trouble, only to find this replacement also gave me uneven cooking. I accepted that I’d just have to move the food from front to back if I wanted this particular air fryer, which I did because of the footprint in my small & overcrowded workspace.I have just read a well-known testing organisation’s review which states the Ninja ... MoreThis is my first airfryer, although I use my mum-in-law’s ‘brand X’ one, so I’m not a first time user.I bought my 1st Ninja Doublestack in May 2024. I am vindicated. UNEVEN COOKING WITH NINJA DOUBLESTACK IS A FACT.Because of the machine’s design, the drawers have holes in the back, so you can’t cook deep dishes like lasagne & macaroni cheese directly in the drawer. Cake & Yorkshire pudding, depending on the size of your mixture would also run through the holes if you tried to cook directly in the drawer. There are silicone inserts with holes in the back especially made for the Doublestack & readily available from the well-known online retailer. All in all, if you’re not desperate for space & even if you are, think carefully about what you want & what you’re prepared to put up with before you splash your cash on a Ninja Doublestack.

The Worst Air Fryer Ninja Have Ever Made !!!!!
4 May 2024

I currently have an air fryer with a rotisserie function and have been looking to purchase one with 2 drawers to be able to cook different foods at different temperatures but was always a little reluctant to buy the side by side Ninjas due to amount of counter space it would take up, so when I saw this product i thought genius and pre-ordered one from my local electronic store. Within the first two uses I quickly realised how much of a mistake i had made selecting this one. There are 2 massive flaws with this machine firstly the air comes from the back of the machine rather than the top so as a result of this food does not cook as quickly as a conventional air fryer. Within the first two uses I quickly realised how much of a mistake i had made selecting this one. There are 2 massive flaws with this machine firstly the air comes from the back of the machine rather than the top so as a result of this food does not cook as quickly as a conventional air fryer. I choose a coated chicken dish and followed the instructions to the letter and when i cut into the breast it was still raw at the bottom i had to put it back in for another 5 mins to get anywhere near cooked (and before Ninja say did you set the shelf on the 2nd level - YES I DID), so what is the point having a machine that takes longer to cook something over a conventional air fryer. The second issue is also with the heat coming from the back rather than the top in order for the heat to disperse around the food they have to cut loads of holes in the tray to allow the heat to get through which is fine UNTIL you want to make something with a sauce as the holes are low down which means you can not really cooking anything with a sauce which makes the drawers all but useless. I then thought about buying some silicone trays to go into the drawers but that would not work as the heat would just be hitting the side of the trays rather than the food itself. I contacted Ninja after the 2nd time of using it to try to get a refund but they were not interested instead telling me to contact the place i bought it from but they said as i had used it twice there was nothing they could do. So basically I am stuck with an expensive plastic monstrosity that is only good for dry/coated foods that take longer to cook than a conventional air fryer so thanks for that Ninja. In my opinion if space is an issue for you then this is the only option but if not I would say stick with a conventional Ninja air fryer and save the money over this terrible machine

Very disappointed
6 July 2024

This is my third addition to the Ninja cooking family and can’t tell you how disappointed I am with it.I have the Ninja Foodi Maxi that has the probe, can’t fault that in any way and also have the Ninja Foodi 10-1 Multivoven which is also very good but not great at trying to keep it clean, due to the design inside which makes it virtually impossible to keep it in pristine condition.I was expecting so much more with this but found it cooked unevenly (things burnt at the back and we’re still raw at the front) and when attempting to cook food in the bottom of the basket and other food at the top on the wire grill that comes with this Ninja, the food underneath was undercooked when the food above was ready to eat. I also missed the feature that my other two have, that warm up first and tell you when they’re ready to use.Sadly I’m returning this model and will look just to buy the simple two basket side by side model. I’m a great advocate of the Ninja range and have raved on to friends as to how superior they are compared to other well know brands, I just don’t think enough thought and development has been put into this design and the claims made about it. If it was just a space saving air fryer without the claims of cooking on 2 levels in the same basket, then yes it would be ideal for many, but if all you’re really getting is a 2 basket air fryer, you may as well buy the cheaper version that have the baskets side by side and save yourself £80.This certainly won’t stop me buying Ninja products and the customer service requesting to send it back has been excellent, but the hype about it, doesn’t in my opinion match the price tag.

[Rewarded Review] I love it!
10 April 2024

I was delighted to receive this air fryer for free as part of the product testing program. It was easy to set up and, although a little heavy, I easily managed it myself. The double stack XL takes up less space on my counter top than my other air fryer as the baskets are stacked one on top of the other.I did find it a bit daunting at first and thought it may take a while to figure out. However, the settings were very similar to my other air fryer and the only additional ones were the sync and match settings which were easy to work out after reading the instructions. My teen was able to use it (without instructions) to prepare herself a meal too!The air fryer has 2 baskets and each basket can be set to its own function and time. My teen was able to use it (without instructions) to prepare herself a meal too!The air fryer has 2 baskets and each basket can be set to its own function and time. I loved the sync feature as I could start off one basket and the other (which needed less time) would finish simultaneously. This meant that I could prep both baskets at the same time and then just leave them to cook. The box said that the double stack XL was best suited for up to 8 people, large families and entertaining. We’re a family of 8 (2 adults and 6 children) so it’s really handy to be able to cook for us all at once. I was a little dubious that there would be enough space at first, as the baskets looked fairly small, however, I managed to fit a whole large chicken in one of the baskets for Sunday lunch! They are really roomy and the steel racks can be used to stack protein on top of veggies too. After use it washes well and is easy to clean. A quick wipe over inside the air fryer was sufficient too. The only issue I found is that food got stuck under the rubber bits of the crisper plate and I was unable to remove these to clean.Cooking for such a large family is no mean feat, but being able to prepare a meal for all of us all in the double stack XL has made things much easier!
