Figured Id complete my collection. The very first games I purchased were BOTW and Mario Odysey. Those titles are Nintendo specific so I decided I was only going to purchase Nintendo exclusive titles for the switch considering that I an buy the cross platform titles for my other consoles and save some money. I was surprised at the initial cost of the switch games vs other consoles but soon learned that Nintendo does that intentionally but also that the carts retain their value more than disk based consoles.I was very surprised at the game selection that the switch offers. As a game collector I was amazed at their hard copy selection which other brands dont typically release. Switch gameplay does seem a little dated and their graphics arent necessarily up to par but theres more to gaming than just graphics. Th.

My husband and I were super excited for Scarlet and Violets release, so we decided to purchase both versions. The game/story line isn’t bad, hence the three star review, but it has a lot of issues that should be addressed. Whereas pricey, it's worth any penny I paid, and is presumably my the vast majority of utilized gaming console to date. I be mindful of the fact myself a comfortable gamer, so Xbox and PlayStation never really get into my classic or playing as perfectly as this hybrid console does. Yes naturally this product could improve, larger screen, faster processing, more effictive gaming, greater battery, etc etc… I’m entirely pleased with aside my alternate runs and wouldn’t be bothered if it never got those updates as much as it kept running as agreeably as it does! So you'll probably want to buy a few things alongside this such as an SD card for reasonable storage space, a pro controller for a more standard controller experience, maybe a dock sleeve to prevent the possibility of scratching the screen from insertion and ejection of the system, an online pass if you plan to play any games with online features... just basically a lot of things that would be nice if they came with the system itself. This will inflate the price further, but the thing here is that this is going to replace the old models of the Switch and simply make this the main one manufactured now. So... basically, if you want a cheaper Switch you'll want to get a Switch Lite and this one will still cost about 300 bucks like the 2.5+ year-old original variant still costs. That is, unless you want to go used. I'm only bringing up these points because while this is a great system, I do think you should be aware of what is likely to happen with prices and availability going forward and plan accordingly. Once I realize a Switch was still going to cost the same if I wanted the ability to do on and off TV play I decided I might as well just hop on board with this newer variant. I'd recommend you do the same as it has had tweaks to make it just a slightly better version all around than the previous model. Otherwise, if price is a concern, wait for the Switch Lite and see how it tickles your fancy. Also, here's tip. If you want to turn the system off as opposed to leaving it in sleep mode, simply hold down the power button on the system for a few seconds and then a menu will appear with the option to restart or shut down. Also note that you cannot play on the TV off of the Switch's battery power. The dock needs to be plugged in for the dock to function. I hope something in here was helpful.

Buggy but still fun

It's rough but I'm enjoying myself.I've mostly laughed off some of the jank like the camera clipping through the ground or how goofy it looks when an NPC wanders around at 3fps in the background of a cutscene, but it's harder to forgive the stutters during stuff like animations for throwing a pokeball or the way the game will freeze for split second while (presumably) assets are loading for an in-engine cutscene like an NPC entering the room for a conversation. I just wanted Arceus's mechanics in an open world with a gym path and more to do. I got the gym path and more to do, but the mechanics somehow got left behind. Arceus felt modern mechanically, with the ability to catch a wild Pokemon by surprise with different ball type altering your odds of catching them without a fight. I can't help but feel they wanted to dumb down the mainline game because they patronizingly think kids can't do the right stick to aim.Besides those gripes, there's a solid game in here. It's an actual open world, whereas Sword/Shield had some open zones mixed into the usual linear routes, and Arceus had just open zones that were distant biomes that didn't flow into each other. And frankly, it's pretty good. The three main narrative paths keep things varied and you're allowed to tackle things in any order, so long as you have the skill to overcome some level gaps.This could have been favorite Pokemon game, and it may end up being my favorite on Switch, but I can't ignore some of the technical shortcomings.

Ok, so I'm going to start with performance issues. You can expect drops in FPS throughout the game and crashes later on in the game due to issues with memory and what not. I'm quitting well before end-game, but I've watched reviews and videos on youtube. Undoubtedly this was done with the intention of pushing out more interesting pokemon in future DLC's to make them more attractive for purchase.This was my big deal breaker: If you plan on competitive play and breeding pokemon, synchronize does not work anymore with encounters so be ready to farm rare pokemon for hours with no control over their natures. You can use mints, but it's too much work either way. As someone that's extremely O.C.D. and a perfectionist, this was finally killed it for me. If you don't know what that ability's secondary effect is, it forces specific natures on pokemon you encounter in the wild. Natures and characteristics both effect pokemon stats. It's just going to make the game even more tedious.I'm returning this product this evening.

Was fun for someone who hasnt played since 2011

My last pokemon game was soul silver in the late 00’s, since then there has been numerous quality of life improvements. The 3D environment is fun, but the framerates suffer as a result. Ill admit the first time walking around the environment it was immersive and beautiful, seeing some of my favorite pokemon returning. Some pokemon that only evolve via trades can now be caught in the wild or via a new “raid” mechanic. This is huge for those who want to catch em all and fill their pokedex. Another great improvement is EV training; you dont need to breed the perfect pokemon as now there are ways to pay to get maxed out perfect IV pokemon within the game. If you have saved some cash in game, you can max out to level 100 any new pokemon. I hardly encountered any bugs so i feel thats overblown by others. SUGGESTIONS: this game desperately needs a difficulty option. As a vet, it was way too easy. Having the option to make the game harder would make it dramatically more enjoyable. The trainers mostly have 1-2 pokemon, so they are a joke. The gym leaders have static levels so you can go off exploring and come back way stronger than them all. If pokemon is going the open world route, it needs to have the gym leaders scale dynamically with the trainer (same applied to the elite 4). A return of the battle tower would be enjoyable as well. All in all you can find details from other commenters about the main story. If you like pokemon and havent played in several gens, you will probably find this enjoyable. If you play every generation and are expecting some type of leap, youll be disappointed.
