The Nvidia Shield 2019 remains sleek looking and is the best complementary device for a home theater setup. For those users who are simply looking for a casual streaming device (e.g. mostly using streaming apps), I would suggest you look at the Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Fire devices. For those into personal home theater, the Shield TV has the vast majority of codec support you need. However, this IS a 2019 product... so I do have to point out that the UI/UX experience is not as buttery smooth as the more recent Apple TV devices. I would love it if Apple TV supported TrueHD Audio or even pass it through, but because it doesn't, the Shield TV remains my go to. The Tegra processor is old, but it's still a great product when it comes to AI upscaling, 4K, HDR, etc. ... MoreThe Nvidia Shield 2019 remains sleek looking and is the best complementary device for a home theater setup. This beats AppleTV by a large margin for streaming. It responds much faster and I have hardly any issues with buffering like I did with my AppleTV 4 with a 25MB fiber service. Play store apps are a little sparse for this device but there are tons of apk's that can be side loaded. I don't have a 4k TV but picture quality on my 1080p TV are very clear. I added a wireless keyboard for browsing that works great with Shield TV. I would recommend to anyone wanting to cut the cord with cable or satellite.

Best android box out there with regualr updates. I currently have it setup with a Happauge tv tuner, my gaming PC, bluetooth controller, and IR harmony remote. From my basement I can now switch from gaming on steam, to watching sling, amazon, or you tube in literally seconds due to the good hardware. Previously used Roku and this leaves it in the dust, pages and movie covers load up before im on the next page and provides a seamless experience, definitely recommend it!

This is by far the best android box yet hands down. That said it isnt worth paying the premium price thinking its a 4k player. While it does output at this resolution it struggles to handle the files and so judders in playback and even crashes if you try to fast forward or rewind. That said it is a great plex server for 1080p easy to use and has some great little games. I would recomend this box highly if your not looking to playback 4k films otherwise i would suggest waiting or building a media server pc.
Wish the stand and the TV style remote came with it. Owning the Progenitor to this device the Shield Portable I was disappointed certain key features were left out. Like the Game mapping software that allows you to play touch screen games with a controller. As well as some of the more user friendly features of the android O/S. Had the unit less than a week when it decided to turn itself on and update. 4k screens no longer worked after that. No way to restore to factory and try again. A 1080p worked fine but all 4k screens stayed blank. Using the game controller vs keyboard and mouse: Put on boxing gloves. Now grab a 10 foot pole with a pen taped to the end. Now write your college thesis where you WILL be graded on your handwriting. The device has two USB ports so you MIGHT be able to plug in a keyboard and mouse. Unit crapped out before I could even try them as a solution to the game controller. Not ready for prime time. RMA'd
Bought this as I was looking for the best set top box that offered everything under the hood, including 4K HDR playback. I don't have a 4K HDR TV yet, but it's nice to future proof myself until I do! It is very responsive to navigate the interface, and everything loads up really snappy and quick. I love playing my old retro console gaming on this too, can handle gaming really well and with the controller and with its headphone jack built into the controller makes it super convenient to play discreetly at night, as well as watch Netflix with headphones without disturbing anyone. So many options, for so many scenarios and home setups. Great little box of tricks!
Would I recommend this to someone else? Yes, if you have the money to spend and are in need of a 4k media streaming device, by all means, buy this product. However, it is pricey and the controller doesn't even come close to the Xbox 360 controller I already owned. Now, the reason I gave this a 2/5 eggs? Well, after a week with the device of mostly daytime usage, one night I was watching a rather dark movie and saw a very noticeable split right in the middle of the screen. The left hand side was displaying proper colors, but the right hand side was very green and the image almost looked like it was playing at 480p, when the left hand side was displaying 4k. At first, I thought I would try different HDMI ports on both my home theater receiver AND TV, but that didn't ... MoreWould I recommend this to someone else? At first, I thought I would try different HDMI ports on both my home theater receiver AND TV, but that didn't solve the issue. I also tried multiple HDMI cables and was still having the issue. My TV was still in warranty so I had Sony send me a replacement, but nope, the issue was still present. At this point I knew it was the Shield. I tried a factory reset, tried changing a bunch of settings on both my new TV and Shield itself, but could not make the problem go away. Now, this wasn't an issue when it was hooked up to a 1080p HDMI port on another screen that I tested, but the reason I bought the Shield was to watch 4k content, to which it could not display. Looks like I will stick with my HTPC and SteamLink for my streaming needs. I am returning this device for a refund.
this thing rocks being able to run pretty much anything i throw at it. will take some time though if your looking for those apps that are not on the shields market. dont worry they can be sideloaded comcast to go app works extremely well but needs to be used with a mouse or external Bluetooth device for navigation. (you need to download the apk) im not sure if its just me but the picture is alot better then my roku on the same tv. 16gb with 20.00$ 64gb sd card will suit you just fine i have yet to go under 8gb of internal space, and i have close to 30 games installed on it.( you can not add a hard drive to the 16gb model) plus emulators are close to native on this thing. having more then 5 systems in one. geforce now is pretty good just make sure you have 5ghz mode ... Morethis thing rocks being able to run pretty much anything i throw at it. will take some time though if your looking for those apps that are not on the shields market. dont worry they can be sideloaded comcast to go app works extremely well but needs to be used with a mouse or external Bluetooth device for navigation. I mostly use this for media consumption. The thing I absolutely love about this is, it is a very powerful graphics device. Totally kills chromecast and any competitors out of the water. The best part about it is it comes with video codecs. So ... if you add a network storage box on your network, NAS, it will be able to handle your media without transcoding. This baby is low power and cool, so is a NAS server. Think of it that way, not some overpriced "console" to play mobile games on your TV .. you can get an Ouya for that.
