These frames are very poorly designed. The metallic stems have a plastic sheath on the lower part, that is supposed to rest on the ears. While the frame fit is alright, the stems are “pointier” than required and irritate the ears. Oakley has done a poor job with fitting the lenses, which shake in their socket. I have no complaints about the lens quality or their functioning, and they are probably the best that you can get in the market. However, at the price I paid for these, the quality of the frames is absolute trash and I am extremely disappointed with my purchase.

While the order itself was full of issues and frustrations getting it placed, getting it confirmed, and getting it delivered - every Oakley rep I spoke to was pleasant, nice, and professional. To the point it made it difficult for me to be upset for all the unnecessary delays. In fact I thought the order was to the point it would not be filled, and I started shopping for these elsewhere. Then out of no where I got a shipping notification that they shipped. I already own a set of the Holbrook Metals - so I knew I would love the glasses themselves. I just wanted a pair with my prescription in them. WOW is all I can say. This is also my first pair of Oakley with the Prizm lenses. Double WOW. The color contrast and clarity are hard to believe and I will never own ... The color contrast and clarity are hard to believe and I will never own another pair of Oakley without Prizm lenses. Well worth the upgrade. The RX is spot on and being able to see perfectly with my sun glasses on and having the no-glare and color contrast is unbelievable. My GF is already sick of watching me take them on and off looking at things trying to believe the color & clarity! =)WELL worth the frustration and wait - I will never leave home without these and even as expensive as they are - I am considering another pair for my other car! THANK YOU Oakley for allow me to avoid the Sun AND see at the same time!

This is a bit of a compromise product. I wanted polarized but it's not available for metal (at time of purchase) and it's not available for customization. The plastic frames felt more comfortable but I am relegated to metal because of the adjustable nosepads; the fixed nose on plastic Holbrook frames does not fit everyone. Plastic is lighter whereas the metal, in conjunction with this style of nosepad, will leave a mark and have you feeling its presence after a while. Some suggestions for Oakley to cover more customers:- make the polarized lenses available in any frame- for the plastic frames, allow replaceable rubber nosepads *IN DIFFERENT SIZES* please!- the 4 corner dots should have the same color as the oval O logoSo why did I compromise? I like the Prizm Ruby's color rendition. Greens pop instead of dim and hazes get clarified a lot for better depth perception. When driving, I switch to a pair of polarized shades for better glare reduction.

I had to warranty these through Luxottica after less than a year (purchased from SGH). I kept them in a hard case, and NEVER dropped them. The Holbrook Metals are very fragile by design. The lens shape is sandwiched into the frame to be sitting under tension. This may be why others are seeing lens issues like delaminating (there's a lot of stress). My problem was the lens popped out of the frame and wouldn't go back in at all because when it popped out the lens lost the channel that the frame sits in. I left them in my car, so I think the heat may have caused warping. I won't be doing that again. Overall, they look really cool, but the Holbrook Metals have to be babied compared to their O-matter and acetate cousins. Even if you baby them, they might have issues. The ... The ear pieces are kind of sharp too, even though they have rubber. I wouldn't recommend these, even though the hollow point hinges are cool.
I've owned and worn numerous Holbrook before; I just never thought to give the Metal a try since I've had numerous aviator style Oakley shades like the Tailhook and Plaintiff Squared. The idea was to have a pair of "thow-ons" on the daily which is why I opted for the regular version but I'm glad I changed my mind. The Holbrook Metal not only looks the part but feels high quality due to its construction. It's literally the best of both worlds and something I feel proud of wearing. Since my recent purchase, I've had zero issues and I don't think I will anytime soon. The screw-less function from the ear stems are great and the new style nose pads are like the Tailhook which result in a very comfortable yet secure feel on the face. I bought these summer of 2017 (8 months ago) from a local retailer, and to summarize the reasons for a 1-star rating:1. The edge of right lens nearest the hinge has started to crack/de-laminate. Replacement lenses are not availlable for purchase (through Oakley).2. The right nose pad fell out, also not available for purchase (through Oakley).3. Made in China.4. Other than lens color, "PRIZM technology" isn't noticeably different from standard polarized lenses.Amplifying info:1. In keeping with Oakley's review guidelines, I can only state that given other reviewers experience with cracking lenses, going through the process of warranty repairs may only mean that you receive another pair of defective lenses at a (possibly) undisclosed cost. In keeping with Oakley's review guidelines, I can only state that given other reviewers experience with cracking lenses, going through the process of warranty repairs may only mean that you receive another pair of defective lenses at a (possibly) undisclosed cost. Or, wait until a third party starts making lenses for (metal) Holbrooks.2. Again, in keeping with Oakley's review guidelines, I can only state that "frames are normally considered one complete part". Targeted internet searches were my only resolve in finding replacement parts without having to go through the warranty/repair claim process.3. Enough said, considering the listed price. A recent visit to a local eyewear retailer (looking for item #2 above) revelead that every pair of Oakleys on display fell into the same category. Note that the un-named retailer is an authorized Oakley dealer according to their website.4. Cost-to-benefit ratio over normal polarized sunglasses doesn't make it worth the purchase. Yes the "PRIZM" lenses look cool, but there are no discernible differences beyond that. And yes, I own several pairs of Oakley polarized sunglasses. It's unfortunate that this review is warranted given the apparent high quality of the frames themselves, which seem like they would last forever. But, if you like being able to switch out lens styles, these are not for you. "PRIZM technology" is cost prohibitive and flat out unnecessary; regular polarized is just fine. At one point, Oakleys were made in the USA, but my desire to spend hard earned money on outsourced sunglasses is waning, despite brand loyalty.
I bought 2 pairs of these new metal Holbrooks since I have had 5 pairs of other various styles of Holbrooks including the ink and regular styles in various colors to match my outfits and etc. The frame is truly a timeless design and fit my face perfectly. So when I seen the metals I knew I had to have them without even seeing them in person just online. So I bought the silver frames and the darker frames both with polarized or prism lens and I couldn't be happier. They are light and super comfy. I haven't had any issues with the lens falling out or whatever else I have read from the reviews on this page which is why i decided to write a positive review because despite all the negative reviews. Everyone at work has complimented me on them as I wear shades every day ... Everyone at work has complimented me on them as I wear shades every day being a car salesman a good pair of shades are a must being outside on the lot 80% of the time. Bottom line these are well built and very comfortable and well worth the money and the fact that they are different amongst mostly everyone having the plastic designs which are also great like I said I have 5 pairs of those. They are all legit and I have had them fall off my head plenty of times and they still rock on. Just take care of your investment and if your doing tough duty stuff then buy a cheap pair for those times and wear your oaks when you know your not going to around crazy stuff that may break them. All In al I'm happy with these metal frames and cant wait for more new styles of Hombrooks to be released as I'm sure to purchase another pair. Truly are a timeless design.
Typical Oakley quality. This metal model is more streamlined than the plastic model on the outside, but instead of having a smooth nose-rest piece it has two old school plastic pads that rest on your nose. The trouble with this feature is that this model has a metal frame. This frame is heavier than plastic frames. The two nose pads do not displace the extra weight evenly throughout a larger contact area like plastic frames, so there is more weight...in a smaller contact patch, and may be too heavy for some. Historically for me, this style nose piece slips easier when placed on sweaty or oily skin. Knowing this, If I had been able to try these on in a store I may not have bought them for that reason. I really wasn't aware that sunglasses were made like this anymore.
