OGX Quenching Coconut Curls Shampoo 385ml

The first thing I noticed upon opening this shampoo is the soft coconut water and very subtle citrus scent. The scent is almost not there but there (in a good way). As someone that gets product buildup, this shampoo isn’t the best when it comes to really giving my scalp a “deep clean” after a long week. On the other hand, I think this is perfect for curlheads that want a gentle basic cleanse. I’m giving this product a 4 out of 5 stars because I like how gentle the scent is. As someone that is sensitive to scents and fragrance, I appreciate how soft and subtle the scent is. I would’ve given this shampoo a five out of five stars if it had more of a bubbly, fluffy lather. If you’re someone who needs the extra hydration, I recommend going in with a deep conditioner after using the Coconut Fine Curls Duo. Disclaimer: I have type 3b/3c hair and have been natural for three years. My hair is color-treated. Although my hair is thin, it isn’t fine. I tried this product for the course of three weeks to really see how the product works along with it’s partner conditioner and followed with a deep conditioner. Once the deep conditioner is rinsed, I applied leave-in.

The biggest points of this shampoo line are probably the premium experience through the rich, thick consistency and the pretty fragrance. This would be a nice scent for people who like sweet gourmands. Even though I like citrus, coconut, and honey, and do find the scent nice, I'm not impressed by it. It smells more natural than most out there, which is a plus in my view, but it's quite sweet and rather uninteresting. The consistency is very thick. It can be hard to work it through hair. The performance of the shampoo itself is not great. I think the older batches before the reformulation to exclude the potentially harmful ingredient DMDM hydantoin do make a negative difference. For context, I have wavy hair, with medium level thickness (not thick or thin) I usually wash my hair 3/week so I don’t dry out my hair. This is a pretty light weight shampoo. It moisturizes my wavy hair without weighing it down. After 2 uses I got the hang of this shampoo because it didn’t lather up as much as I expected it to. I was so excited to try this product. I have 3c highlighted hair. This didn’t work well for my highlighted hair! For curly girls, conditioner is the largest part of our process. Unfortunately, the shampoo conditioner was very lightweight and didn’t provide the level of intensity that I prefer for moisturizing my curls. I gifted this to my mom because she normally wears her hair in a protective style and does not have a problem with moisture. The coconut scent is nice and subtle. I wouldn’t purchase this particular product from OGX for myself.

The medicated shampoos fixed my scalp issue but my hair became dry, frizzy and feeling like a cross between cotton candy and brillo. It looked dry, straight and stringy. First use was good, loved the scent and the mint tingle, and it didn't irritate my scalp. My hair got softer, but a little flyaway. Second use, my hair started to feel even better. Third use and my hair is getting shiny and instead of frizz, it is smoother and getting its bounce back. Now I know it’s not made to be a leave in conditioner but it’s actually the best one I’ve ever used. I have my shower and even with conditioning my hair in the shower using another conditioner my hair could use some more moisturizing. This gives my hair so much moisture and it stays the whole day. My hair doesn’t need any curl creams this keeps the hair shiny soft and non frizzy the whole day and honestly I’m obsessed. If only it was slightly cheaper and easier to find in stores because I love it and it would be perfect.

The only thing good about this, for me, is the smell. This is just not a good conditioner IMO. I have long, thick hair. I do not use heat of any kind, deep condition regularly, and get regular trims. All the stores around me stopped selling my HG, so I thought I'd give this a try. I knew immediately I didn't like it (hair felt drier, more coarse frizzy, *super* tangly), but I wasn't going to let it go to waste. After 2 weeks of use I've got split ends! Everywhere! Y'all, I don't get split ends and I just had a trim about 3 weeks before starting use. So, I'm going for a cut tomorrow and throwing the rest of this out! Sorry OGX. Yikes.

Dose the complete oposite to what it says!!

I brought this product for a cheaper alternative. I was really disapointed with the results and damage ir had done to my hair. It made me lose hair, made my hair dry and frizzy. Although it smells nice its completly ruined my curls and turned them back to frizz. Not a good product. Shea moistuer is amazing!! It is just quite expensive! However it nutures your curls and revitlize them in the long-term.

How can they even sell this

This left my hair badly tangled after washing. It took me several minutes to brush it out, and I lost a LOT of hair. I’m usually one to finish a product before switching to not waste money. I can’t even stick with it for a week. It would probably cause a lot of damage to my hair. I’m seeing the same concerns in other reviews. Very disappointed. I don’t know how they can even sell this stuff.

Works and smells so good

I work at Ulta so naturally I love trying different products. Since it’s close to summer I wanted to stop styling my hair and instead start wearing it natural (in the summer it’s just way too hot to style my thick hair and the humidity makes it not last anyways!). However, I have wavy hair with the potential to be curly with the right shampoo/ styling products. So, I wanted to try the coconut curls line to see if I could enhance my waves/ curls and it worked! It also smells so good and I got so many compliments. I recommend not only getting the shampoo and conditioner but also the styling milk and finishing mist! And for maximum curls try sleeping with two French braids in!!
