My pool pump was NOT BRAND NEW! It had been sent back by a previous customer that didn't want it. It had the letter from the previous owner inside the box. The pump made a hideous grinding noise when I tried to turn it on. The pump had been dropped on the cooling vane end and pushed the black cover into the vanes seizing the motor. I was able to hammer the black cover off and free the vanes. It's working fine but only because I knew that sound it made on start up and knew it should be an easy fix.
