I discovered Open Farm after watching a YouTube video talking about how much they recommend the food. I was immediately intrigued because the person discussing the brand was a giant dog breed owner- and this particular breed needs a diet that can keep up with their health and lifestyle. I figured- if someone recommends this for a purebred sighthound my diabetic cat would THRIVE. He had recently suffered a hospital visit after going into Diabetic Ketoacidosis and I thought I had been feeding them a great diet of Orijen with the occasional can of Instinct wet food (both STILL great brands btw- but do we really know how ethical they are?) but after hearing about Open Farm I immediately ordered the Turkey Dry and Wet and my diabetic cat was hooked right away. All 3 of my cats were crying the moment they smelled the food. I was mixing their old food with Open Farm and they went for the Open Farm right away. The wet food even smells appealing to humans- kind of like a very bland stew but it smelled FRESH. There were real ingredients in the wet food and all of us notice a difference. My cats’ fur is glossier- everyone is energetic and playful- bright eyed and healthy- and my diabetic guy is stable and doing great. I now have a subscription for a monthly delivery for Open Farm.

I have had a lot of cats and opened a lot of cat food containers from companies claiming to be natural or wholesome, or a combination thereof, but opening Open Farms Rustic Blend was truly a first. The food really does smell good enough for a person to eat; it smells a lot like human baby food, actually. Our cat has FIV and has had all kinds of strange reactions to various brands of canned and packet wet foods, but it was immediately obvious that Open Farm is on another level. His stools looked healthier, he stopped being sick, and we could tell that the food was doing wonders for him. We are still weaning him off of the 'junk food' by slowly increasing the percentage of Open Farm in his meals. It feels good doing something that is good for his health. Just like you wouldn't let your child eat pizza for every meal just because that's what they want, feeding your cat Rustic Blend is an investment in their health and longevity. Open Farm is a higher level of pet food. As a plus, their boxes are super well designed and easily and conveniently close for refrigerator storage when needed. Top notch product. I will definitely buy again and can't wait to see the day when our cat is totally cat-junk-food free and on a 100 percent Open Farm diet.

I was extremely excited to give this to my latest rescued feral cat. He's just over 1 year old, healing very well from all his battle wounds, but has a multitude of broken teeth and loves pureed foods. He also tested positive for FIV, so I want to give him the best possible nutrition to keep his immune system strong.Unfortunately he'll only lick this food off of my fingers, if I don't literally hand feed him, he won't touch the chicken or turkey-his two favorite flavors, in either of his bowls. I was so disappointed, but I'll be trying the food on with the other 20+ cats ruling my household. Hopefully they'll like it. I can't begin to tell you how much food I've donated over the years, trying to get the best food for my little ones...that they'll eat.I have ... MoreI was extremely excited to give this to my latest rescued feral cat. How can you go wrong with a human grade, all natural, immune supporting food that looks and smells like a tasty chicken or turkey casserole? If my giant ginger boy had eaten this, I'd have given it 5 stars all day long! The packaging is unique and lovely, and the food should be palatable to any cat. It actually smells really delicious, if we were in my very young kid days, I would have even tried it!. It's just not for the one I'm trying to feed, apparently!

Honestly,it smells like turkey dinner, not cat food. If you've had cats over the past 10+ years, you know exactly what I mean by the "cat food" smell, too. So the fact that it smells like real food was a good start and to be honest, none of our 3 cats needed any introductions. We have two 1.5 year olds with no health issues and an 18 year old with CKD. All three plowed the little taste tests we put in their bowls. Granted, the CKD cat has a prescription diet, but she periodically gets bored with it and will not eat well, so we have been using the Open Farm turkey and the chicken, just in small amounts, to mix into or top her food and she absolutely loves it and finishes the whole plate. No issues or problems, otherwise, and often cut it with some OpenFarm kibble ... MoreHonestly,it smells like turkey dinner, not cat food. I love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. The reason for three stars is one- the consistency. It is more like a soup and mush- they ground up the meat and it's not appealing- not to me and not to my cats. The wet food I gave them before was chunks of meat in gravy. So consistency-wise, this is a major downgrade even if everything else about it is an upgrade. My cats refuse to eat it since it doesn't look appetizing and compare to what I was feeding them before. Needless to say, this will be a one-time purchase. Had I know this was the consistency of the product, I would not have purchased. Hoping Open Farm releases a formula in the future that is actual chunks of meat in gravy ... MoreI love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. I don't think open-farm wet food is suitable for my cat. He was very indifferent about the beef and salmon ones, but he would still eat them if I mixed them 50:50 with another wet food that he likes. But with this flavor, he would only take a few bites. We tried mixing churu and dry food, but he would either turn his nose up or pick out the dry food. Personally, I also do not like the packaging of the wet food. It adds a few extra steps to open it and doesn't store as well as the metal canned food in the fridge. I would not purchase from an open farm again.
I have been worried about the ingredients in the cat food that I have been feeding my Sahara boy. It just seemed like a never ending battle to find species appropriate protein and know exactly where this protein source was coming from along with high standard manufacturing practices. I’ve bounced back and forth from high end cat food but always had reservations about something that I knew wasn’t good. I found Open Farm cat food at my local privately owned pet store and bought a box of Chicken Rustic blend. I went home and researched the brand and was pleasantly surprised on many levels! The sourcing is traceable which is very important to me. The sourcing is traceable which is very important to me. Previously on other cat food brands, I would read CHICKEN/TURKEY as the first ingredients, which was great but I would wonder, “from where?” Now my questions are answered! I also would wonder about the mystery of where the food was manufactured? I would cringe at the thought of what standards the facility had during the process. Now I can rest assured that his food is manufactured in a Human Grade facility with higher standards. My Sahara boy loves the taste of this food and GOBBLES down every last bite!
Compared to other wet foods that we've fed our cat, the ones from Open Farm sadly don't seem to be his favorite. He eats them most of the time but doesn't seem to be as excited or that interested in eating it. I'm not sure if it's the texture or the smell. They are fairly liquidy and definitely have a different smell, smells kind of sweet or something, compared to his other favorite canned foods. He quite often leaves some of it behind and doesn't eat the lentils or veggie chunks unless he's really hungry. I also don't really like using the cartons unfortunately, it's harder to get all the food out from the bottom of the carton with the small corners, I find cans are way more enjoyable to use. He really loves all the dry food from Open Farm though!
The food is not bad - my ragdoll who has a sensitive stomach was able to eat this without fuss / consequences. However the packaging made it really hard to get all the food out.Even though the packaging is made to more environmentally friendly, there was quite a bit of food left in the container that I couldn't retrieve even with the smallest spoon :( Feels wasteful leaving all that edible food in.Other than that, it is decent food - I purchased it when it was on sale. I don't think I will repurchase at full price
I have completely switched my cat over to open farm food. He eats the Raw Mix as well as a container of wet food daily. I made this switch the beginning of this year and he was 16 lbs and looking rather overweight. He would also beg for food regularly and seemed to never be satisfied despite always wanting food. Since I've made the switch he has lost significant weight and looks extremely healthy. His coat looks shinier and healthier. He also no longer begs for food like he used to as he seems to actually get the proper nutrition from Open Farm. He seems overall happier and even keeled in his demeanor. He also loves the taste and gets excited to eat. He prefers turkey and fish flavors. 10/10 recommend Open farm food - its absolutely worth the price and ships ... MoreI have completely switched my cat over to open farm food.
