So good to find Opies Pickled Walnuts! Pickled Walnuts have always been difficult to find in supermarkets and now they are delivered to your door. So much easier to open the jar than to pickle the walnuts from the tree. Their taste compliments cheeses and charcuterie and once opened they soon get eaten. So moreish. I just wished that there were more in the jar!

Love these pickled walnuts but not always easy to get. However now have link to Gourmet World Foods so will purchase again. Re product they are unripened green walnuts so not hard in savoury, slightly sweet vinegar brine. Soft and juicy

Pickled walnuts are walnuts picked when still green and then pickled. They are hard to find but we love them. They are expensive and only available in small jars containing around eight pickles depending greatly on their size. These are mostly good but the odd jar or odd walnut has been picked too late in the season so as to develop little woody bits. I make the jar go further by using the vinegar as a sprinkle on top of whatever I fancy having a little bite to it, pasta bake, battered halloumi, cheese sandwiches etc as the vinegar has a lot of pickled walnut flavour.
First time trying... kind of expected a savoury version of the sweet Greek gluko type... basically they tasted like brown sauce, the walnuts were falling apart and didn't have a nice consistency in my mouth.. very bitty and gritty unfortunately. Maybe I got a bad batch as I am baffled by the good reviews..
My Dutch Jewish grandmother (b.1896) used to make her wonderful 'Brown Stew' with pickeled walnuts, but I haven't seen them for many years. Make a stew or casserole with beef chunks or meatballs, then add these along with the juice in the jar and brown sugar to taste and cook long enough for flavours to mingle. Makes an amazingly pungent sour sweet stew!
I ordered these in a spirit of experiment, never having so much as having seen a pickled walnut in my life. I had not realised that the whole walnut, including the case, is pickled, which leaves you with the sensation that you are eating a small, furry animal. These may be the very doyen of the pickled walnut and they may well be ambrosia to some palettes but, personally, I am not that keen and doubt that I shall buy these again. Still, at least that's another tick on the culinary bucket list!
Absolutely love them. Have been looking for them everywhere!, so thank you for stocking them. Thry are so hard to find in regular shops.
I do love vinegar, salad cream, pickles etc so these have been a firm favourite for years. Theyre pricey but worth it, the vinegar makes a beautiful salad dressing and the walnuts are tender and delicious. My mouth waters when I think of them!
Someone told me about pickled walnuts, and I?ve been wanting to try them. Sliced up, and had with cheese and biscuits - very nice flavour. I think they get pickled before they actually separate the nut from the shell, so they have a firm bud texture before even pickling. Hence I would slice or chop them, not just take a bite like a pickled onion. Like a savoury chutney, but more meaty.
