The first thing everyone should understand is you need 0.6-0.8g of protein per pound of bodyweight in your diet to gain muscle, and you need to eat at a calorie surplus to gain muscle and weight, great, this shake can help with that, however you should be tracking calories and protein, and this shake should only be used for the odd time you have to catchup or make up the difference of what you didn't get from food. I know thats not what anyone wants to hear, they want a simple quick fix, like anything in life shortcuts either aren't really shortcuts or they come at a price, and that's what has happened with me. So I had been using this everyday, for maybe 2 and a half years, at some point I developed the more severe form of acne, ive always had spots here and there throughout my life, but the more severe form is a different ballgame, I have cystic and nodular acne, can be pretty painful, often cant be burst, even when they are they just come back exact same location, often they last weeks or months and by the time some cleared up for me, there would be new ones, mostly on my face, back and shoulders, can't tell you how badly this has impacted my mental health, imagine being a skinny ectomorph your whole life and you finally put on some muscle and weight, start to look decent, get compliments often and then you end up with big red lumps all over you, a big part of me trying to gain muscle was for my confidence and self esteem, so this has been a big blow to my confidence to say the least. I stopped taking this shake several months ago for a few reasons, dairy especially casein in cows dairy is very inflammatory, even shown in studies to swell the prostate, the high carb content, the high sugar (very inflammatory), and the maltodextrin (spikes insulin very fast). Now I do and did have some dietary issues, ive never really tolerated cows dairy very well, if you suffer from bloating, sinus infections, migraines, you might want to look at how much dairy you consume and consider cutting down or cutting it out, even as a 1 month trial, I get nobody wants to quit dairy, took me a while to accept facts, but I digress. So, my experience with this shake has been a net negative, what appears to have happened is ive become quite insulin resistant, I believe that overusing this shake for a long period of time spiked my insulin so frequently for so long at a time that now insulin resistance is kicking in too often, this is the cause of many illnesses, including polycystic ovarian syndrome, cystic acne and more. Insulin is pretty anabolic, as in spurs muscle growth, this is great so long as you dont hit resistance, its essentially the 'spillage' that does the harm, combine this with the IGF-1 in dairy (Insulin Growth Factor, its meant for baby animals to rapidly grow big and strong, its also similar enough to insulin that it works for us the same as insulin) and you have a recipe for some bad maybe irreversible health problems. Many people will concede that sugar, and dairy alone can cause or exacerbate acne, in this cocktail its basically acne food. Ive done a fair bit of research on acne for a while now, had about zero knowledge before on it, and now ive completely eliminated the shake from my diet, also going dairy free right now and doing a low carb no sugar diet in an attempt to get this all under control, already have scars on my face and shoulders from lumps that just sat there inflammed for months, fyi the reason they mostly appear on shoulders back and face os because this is where the majority of our androgen receptors are, androgens being hormones aka DHT, testosterone, estrogen etc, insulin resistance will create excess androgens, spurring the body on to keep making new tissue and hence the hard inflammed lumps, DHT tells the sebaceous glands to just keep on producing to, so this really is all a perfect storm when the conditions are right. In summary ive ended up in a pretty difficult position, my weight isnt much different from when I started tbh though I have gained muscle, but now struggle to hit calories targets with the kind of things I need to avoid now, most veg, most fruit, cant seem to even tolerate goats milk which I used, its a different less inflammatory form of casien in goats milk btw. Hoping if I can give my body some time to recover now, I can get rid of this acn...

I Was Looking For A Mass Gainer And Usually Optimum
30 January 2024

I was looking for a mass gainer and usually Optimum Nutrition are my go-to for supplements. However after just a week, this has already become a bit of a chore to use. First negative is there's only 8 servings, which for the price isn't great value. Second I've found it doesn't mix very well at all in my standard wire-mesh ball shaker style bottle. Perhaps better in a blender? But also it froths up A LOT so it's a bit of catch 22. Shake enough to try and mix the powder, but not so much that it all turns to froth. Tricky. Next thing is that the scoop is huge! Almost the same size as the bottle diameter so I've found that half the powder ends up on my hands or down the sink when I'm pouring it in. Which made me think; why not just buy a regular whey protein and have two scoops each time - mass gainer territory! The taste is as expected, not horrible but not delicious either. Par for the course really. Overall I wouldn't get it again - bit of a faff every time I go to use it!

I'm now 42 years old and ever since my early 20's I've struggled to gain any weight, always hovering around the 75 kg mark. I'm a tall guy so have always looked skinny. I'd experimented with heavy gym work, junk food and beer drinking but nothing seemed to make any difference. As I got older I became less self-conscious about my weight and just accepted that it's just the way I am. However a throw-away comment by someone recently asking if I'd lost weight really annoyed me so thought I'd research once again how to gain weight. I came across this product with great reviews so thought I'd give it a try. I came across this product with great reviews so thought I'd give it a try. I've been splitting one portion into two, and having half in the morning and half in the afternoon, and have coupled this with twice weekly weight sessions and daily press ups and squats. To cut a long story short today I weighed in at 80kg, just five weeks into using this product so roughly a gain of 1kg a week. Really pleased so far and plan to get up to 85-90kg which i think will be an ideal weight for me. Also it's worth noting I find the portions go further than stated - generally a 2kg tub lasts me about 10 days which is good. All in all highly recommended.

I've used this product about a handful of times, roughly halfway through my tub, and overall it's been a fairly average experience. Mass gainer does have some downsides but also some positives to go with it. The first thing I want to point out is that it shouldn't be used to replace food in my opinion. I only recommend using this product in a scenario where you simply don't have the time to get your calories in, or you need a quick and easy fix of protein. I much rather recommend that you supplement your calories with highly nutritious and high-protein ingredients. One of the main noticeable downsides to this product was the headaches I received after a week of using it. I believe this is due to the severely dense ingredients requiring a lot of the body's resources ... MoreI've used this product about a handful of times, roughly halfway through my tub, and overall it's been a fairly average experience. I much rather recommend that you supplement your calories with highly nutritious and high-protein ingredients. One of the main noticeable downsides to this product was the headaches I received after a week of using it. I believe this is due to the severely dense ingredients requiring a lot of the body's resources to digest. It feels like an extreme food coma since your body is prioritizing most of its blood flow to the stomach to help break down a large amount of dairy and protein as quickly as possible. Resulting in a lack of oxygen to the brain, which would eventually cause headaches or even migraines. This is especially prominent after a weight training routine since even more blood flow is being directed to your muscles for recovery. The only way I felt I was able to counter these side effects was to take the product right before going to bed so I'm able to sleep through the digestion. One positive to this product though is the taste. I expected it to be quite unpleasant, but in reality, when paired with Alpros natural protein soy milk, the vanilla flavor wasn't all that bad. Its fairly easy to get down unlike other mass gainer or protein supplements I've tried in the past, but it does require a blender to really break up the large clumps and develop a smoother texture.

Nothing special, flavour isn't too good, vwouldn't have guessed it was

Nothing special, flavour isn't too good, vwouldn't have guessed it was chocolate and peanut butter. I'll stick to MYPROTEIN much better flavours and drink altogether just a bit expensive unless you catch it on a deal. I find the MYPROTEIN app better for deals then MYSUPPLEMENTSHOP. Thought I'd try these and it'll be my last. To make it taste better I blend it with a banana. Its very thick as it is anyway with the amount of protein in one scoop so I use have for 25gms roughly. It depends if quantity is better then quality for you. I thought so but now after trying it I'd rather quality especially if you drink one everyday around your high protein foods and the gym. The only one thing I like is the high calories in one big scoop. I scan my foods with a app called "Nutracheck"so I keep onto of proteins and calories. The app helped get to 200lb around 14stone which I wanted. Lean bulk is better then the Mass powder as I felt bloated. Do what works for you. Everyone is different.

This tastes amazing. I blend a scoop and a half
4 November 2023

This tastes amazing. I blend a scoop and a half in the Breville smoothie maker and it's perfect. It is quite a lot of powder but if you fill it half up with milk (I use soy) then add the powder then finish with as much milk as will fit in it tastes like a store bought milkshake. I add a handful of blueberries too and it tastes almost caramel like! You will definitely need a blender though due to the amount of powder. I've always been really thin but recently became aware that I looked quite Ill- I'm very picky with eating and previously would be constantly starving but didn't want to eat anything. I've been having 3-4 of these a day for the last 2 and a half weeks and I've put in just under a stone. I'm not hungry all the time and I have loads more energy- honestly ... MoreThis tastes amazing. I also bought strawberry which is pretty tasty too, but banana is definitely the nicest in my opinion.
