10/10 Backpack

I purchased this pack two years ago with the intention of using it as an occasional daypack. I have ended up using it heavily every single day. From school, to work, to climbing and hiking, this backpack has shown very little sign of wear and tear as well has having plenty of space for everything I need with me. The mesh pockets on either side can fit both a waterbottle and the wrappers of numerous granola bars, and the front zip pocket is the perfect size for all the small things that usually disappear in my bag. The bladder pocket is where I put my laptop and it fits great, with additional room for a thin book. I never find myself reviewing products, but this pack is just good enough for me to make an exception.

i bought a daylite pack about 5 years ago on a good sale, not having shopped around much, just needing a small pack for solo day hikes. it has been the PERFECT bag for this. after 5 years it’s still in great shape (granted, i don’t put it through the ringer or anything). that first one was a color that i never liked, but my mom did - so i recently ordered myself a new daylite pack and gifted my old one to her. this updated version is just as great as the last, and with larger side pockets. easily carries a first aid kit, emergency blanket, bear spray, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, a portable phone charger, and a few other small items. recently took it on a trip where it rained a lot, and stuffed a 13L dry bag inside to protect the contents. the daylite itself got ... Morei bought a daylite pack about 5 years ago on a good sale, not having shopped around much, just needing a small pack for solo day hikes. it has been the PERFECT bag for this. after 5 years it’s still in great shape (granted, i don’t put it through the ringer or anything). that first one was a color that i never liked, but my mom did - so i recently ordered myself a new daylite pack and gifted my old one to her. this updated version is just as great as the last, and with larger side pockets. easily carries a first aid kit, emergency blanket, bear spray, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, a portable phone charger, and a few other small items. recently took it on a trip where it rained a lot, and stuffed a 13L dry bag inside to protect the contents. the daylite itself got plenty wet but repeatedly dried out easy overnight. this is the perfect sized bag to fit everything i need for one person and while keeping light on weight and volume.

Great minimalist climbing gym bag! At 13 liters it is really small, which is ideal for my purposes but keep in mind if it'll work for you. I ride my bike to the gym, and this bag is so much lighter than the cheapo bag I used before and breathes so much better. No more sweaty back when I get to the gymInside main compartment I've got harness, chalk bag, monkey tail length of rope for practicing clipping, and a U lock. Secondary compartment has snacks, rudimentary first aid supplies (nonstick pads, antibacterial ointment, climbers tape, lil scissors, bandaids, kurlex roll). Water bottle compartments hold the larger size hydroflask in one and my jumprope in the other. Shoes clipped to the compression straps. My only quibble is that the compression straps are totally ... MoreGreat minimalist climbing gym bag! Day Pack

Nice pack for day trips. The large interior pocket easily handles a rain jacket, water bottle, and umbrella while the smaller interior pocket holds snacks, energy bars and other daily need items - there are interior dividers to keep items separated as needed. Exterior mesh pockets worked well for sunglasses (glasses were enclosed in a protective case), and small brochure /map if needed. The lightly padded shoulder straps are comfortable and the adjustable buckle straps work easily to secure the pack as needed. There is space for a small H2O bladder (not included). I also have an Osprey 65 with frame that is approximately 7 years old and is fantastic for longer treks. I am a man of 73 years, 6 feet tall, 170 lbs.

Handy and compact

I bought this daypack as it was on sale and I would say it is of excellent build and material. Not as light as I would have thought but very handy and compact. It has an option for hydration bladder but I don't use that. Instead you can fit inside the main compartment a small packable jacket, some snacks, a tablet (maybe a small laptop computer), up to 2 average size water bottles or beverage containers on the sides(nice stretchy material to keep them snug). Shoulder and waist traps are convenient for long hikes. There is also a secret whistle(for emergency alert). friendly as it is small enough you can pack it in your check-in luggage. I highly recommend it for travel and day trips.

Nice minimalist daypack.
18 November 2022

I bought the Osprey Daylight as a dayhiking pack to finally enter the 21st Century, replacing my Jansport Superbreak I have used for this purpose for decades. I still wanted the Superbreak's simplicity, but also wanted something with a real sternum strap and external water bottle pockets, with ability to hold a hydration reservoir being a nice option, but not mandatory. I was worried about cutting the internal capacity in half going from the Superbreak to the Daylite, but moving the water bottles outside frees up a lot of internal space. I can keep two one-liter water bottles (even double-wall insulated stainless steel ones) in the side pockets; a full Patagonia Better Sweater fleece jacket (even though for most hikes I just have an REI Co-op vest which saves room), ... MoreI bought the Osprey Daylight as a dayhiking pack to finally enter the 21st Century, replacing my Jansport Superbreak I have used for this purpose for decades. Certainly enough for most dayhikes. Downsides: it would be nice to have some lashing points on the outside to carry some gear externally, and also it's impossible to take out the water bottles when you're wearing the pack, the best you can do is unsling it from one shoulder, which is not ideal, but still doable while walking. But I guess if you have the internal hydration reservoir that takes care of drinking on the go. I haven't bought one of those yet, so don't know how that affects what you can carry in the main compartment.

Osprey Daylite and Daylite Plus
15 July 2024

Osprey designs and constructs good products. I have owned four Ospreys of different volumes and purpose. The Daylite attracted my attention for the purpose of brief commuting during the day where little is likely to be carried. I recently returned my Daylite and exchanged it for the Daylite Plus. The latter has slightly more internal volume; holds more securely a travel thermos and water bottle; has more convenient, easily accessible pocket and more secure, smaller zippered pocket.

Perfect daypack for travel
19 September 2024

I had been on the hunt for a small travel satchel of some sort, i.e., the bag you carry for under the airplane seat or on a day in London, or day-hiking in Scotland (say). I had tried packable backpacks which were, technically, sacks that contained things that one could conceivably wear on one's back; messenger bags which were too big and disorganized and resulted in some serious lower back pain at the end of a long day; and sling bags, which were sold hard by the YouTube set, but were just too small to be useful. This bag checks all the boxes: structured enough to be comfortable, water bottle holder, small enough to be a convenience, and large enough to carry a raincoat, layer, EDC stuff, and a water bottle. Wore it on an all day ride around Montreal recently. ... MoreI had been on the hunt for a small travel satchel of some sort, i.e., the bag you carry for under the airplane seat or on a day in London, or day-hiking in Scotland (say). Straps slide/loosen, constantly need to tighten
26 November 2023

Initially really liked this daypack for its size and fit. Been using it regularly since buying it last month. It's fine when there's minimal weight in it. But anything more than ~4 lbs. causes the supporting straps to slide. Really frustrating to constantly have to tighten them. Not seeing other reviews with this issue so hoping that mine's just a one off. Will try exchanging it for the same model, hoping the new one doesn't have this issue.

little small for what I need, otherwise great bag
20 May 2024

I bought this bag to take along with me for my field bio class that'd usually last about 8 hours. I'd usually have two 32 oz bottles, a clipboard, rope, binoculars, lunch/snacks, keys/wallet and sun protection that'd be able to fit in my bag. I'd be able to strap a quadrat or transect to the outside with the buckles. With the bottles in the side pockets, it was hard to take things in and out of the main compartment. It also never really fit a jacket on days that I'd need one in the morning, so I'd have to tie it somewhere. Good for day hikes and I use it at my camp education job, but invest in something slightly bigger if you're using it for a class
