At dinner time, my dog, a 45-lb Bernadoodle, would eat everything he could from his bowl and then run back to me and put his head in my lap indicating he had finished everything in the bowl and wanted more. This does slow him down considerably. Instead of the 30 seconds he used to take, it's now 10 minutes. The licking of other soft food and kibble with treats in other trays is a winner. He looks forward to the feeder. I can't wait to use it with frozen food.

I have four young kids and lots of puppies and young dogs. We volunteer with a service dog organization, so I am constantly bringing new dogs into my house. I typically do frozen slow feeders to buy myself some extra time keeping the dog busy at meal time. This thing buys me a solid 45 minutes. The ridges are high enough to keep all of the food in and the dog can only lick it out, but low enough they get a tiny bit with each lick so it keeps them going at it. I use regular kibble and just pour water on it, or my favorite is soaking kibble in water, blending it, and pouring that into the lickin layers, then freezing it. The three layers also separate for easy cleaning.

I don't fill every spot to put food. I only put 1 kibble, part of her daily food, into some of the squares on each layer. She has two other puzzles she likes. I forgot to show her how to do it but she knew what to do. She always uses her nose to move all puzzles. This is a female Doberman, just turned 5. Have never had any problem with her figuring out most anything. She is quite self sufficient, most Dobies can figure most anything, they are fun,

My main concern was that with just slightly too much food or kibble that gets pushed wrong it would jam up the spin mechanism but so far it’s no problem. Spins very smoothly and has good weight to it so it doesn’t tip too easily or move too much. My dogs are familiar with puzzle feeders so they immediately knew what to do and got to work. Have not tried anything except kibble so far but the dogs love it.
I have a 9-month-old Dane and a 5 yr old Golden mix. This layering lick mat/feeding is perfection. It's made of rigid material and is not bendable like a traditional licking mat. It is very easy to clean with the spray nozzle on my kitchen sink. Pulls apart very easily. You'd think that food would get all dried up in the nooks and crannies, but after they finish the layers, there isn't much left. A rinse removes the rest.As for functionality, this is the best part. The Dane eats very fast and runs on the anxious side. I tried to put kibble in there whole and it slowed her down to about 15 minutes, gave her some licking de-stress time, and isn't messy cuz she cleans up everything. I went further and made a ground up version with my bullet shaped blender and water. ... MoreI have a 9-month-old Dane and a 5 yr old Golden mix. This layering lick mat/feeding is perfection. I went further and made a ground up version with my bullet shaped blender and water. Spatula-ed it into all of the holes and froze it. In the am, it took her an hour to finish it AND got an hour of stress-bucket emptying licking. The golden likes it too and will finish anything left. I am going to get another one for her. Very highly recommended if you have a nervous, anxious, or full stress bucket type of pup. There is nothing I would change except maybe to make it a little stickier on the bottom to keep it from sliding. It doesn't slide much and with a Dane, she just picks it up and brings it where she wants to go anyway.
I have purchased 4 different puzzles from this brand, my 14 year old yorkie loves them all. She inhales her food so 10 years ago I purchased her 1st one from this brand. I trained her and she loves her puzzles. Plus they are excellent for their cognitive development and senior pets.I got this particular one for her 14th birthday as a gift. She absolutely loves it!!!!It is built very sturdy and strong. And it has 3 different levels to fill the food either kibble or wet you would put spoonfuls in each little section. If comes apart for easy cleaning you have to squeeze the bottom read the directions on front of box.Buy it you will not be disappointed.
We purchased this primarily as a Licky-Mat/Puzzle for our puppy who loves doing puzzles. She also was spending a lot of time "licking" things. This item is a good size, very stable on the floor (carpet & tile) and comes apart for excellent cleaning up from food or liquid put in to its 3 "honycomb" levels. Occasionally she has become finicky with a meal or two, especially if off her usual schedule. Putting her meal into this as a licky-mat, rather than her usual bowl has enticed her to eat! Definitely a great item.
I am so excited for this lick mat, slow feeder, and puzzle toy all in one. I am always looking for new ways to enrich and slow down feeding time at my house. This activity feeder is probably one of my favorite purchases. While it is marketed for kibble, I fed my dogs fresh food in it and it was amazing! Is it a little messier that way? yes. Does it make it more difficult to wash? a little, but no more so than other puzzle toys, at least there are no small pieces to keep track of! I did build my girl up to stacking the feeder. I wanted her to adapt to have to it. I am glad I waited because she definitely got a little frustrated at the beginning. But she figured it out quickly and this will become a regular activity in our feeding rotation!
We have two high-energy dogs and they had started exhibiting some destructive behaviors due to boredom and anxiety. Exercise and their basic toys just weren’t cutting it. They were rambunctious and had started digging massive holes all over our yard, so I started looking into puzzles. We’re on a tight budget and after hours upon hours of comparing, we settled on this one to start off with. It does depend on the dog though - our bloodhound lost interest after a few goes and will no longer touch this, but our mixed breed shelter mutt LOVES this. It has become a staple in his daily life. I love that there are multiple layers to this so that he has to maneuver it. Each layer we add a different food to, then add water and freeze it. Takes him about 30-45 minutes to ... I love that there are multiple layers to this so that he has to maneuver it. Each layer we add a different food to, then add water and freeze it. Takes him about 30-45 minutes to finish depending on the foods used. We have found a good rotation of foods to give him some variety and keep him interested. This has helped curb his destructive behaviors SO MUCH! He stopped peeing in the house/crate, barking has minimized, reactivity on walks is better, and he is all around a more relaxed dog. I wish I had bought this years ago! Would have saved me a lot of headaches. We are looking into adding some more puzzles to rotate, but we are extremely pleased with this one.
New puppy eats like a vacuum- no chewing, no manners- just a stopwatch in her mind with some speed record to beat. This is the third slow feeder I’ve tried and so far, the best. The first few meals were much slower, but now that she gets the gist, that stopwatch is back in play. At least it’s buying my older dog a few valuable seconds to get his meal down without distraction.I wish the center “snap in place” neck was accessible from the topside of the dish as opposed to the bottom. Would make removal/assembly easier layer by layer.
