OXO - Good Grips Food Mill
The OXO Good Grips sieve is the ideal kitchen aid for making, for example, fresh puree, sauces, and soups. The stainless steel inner dish is perfect for hot food, does not discolour, and has three stainless steel discs for fine, medium, and coarse. The strainer has a unique release button that makes it easy to change discs. Thanks to the three non-slip feet, the strainer stays firmly in place on pans and dishes up to a diameter of 28 cm. The feet can be folded in, so you can easily store the sieve when not in use. The sieve has a capacity of approximately 2.2 L.

This is a game changer for making berry sorbets and processing chili sauces. I can't wait to try it again, and on other things as well. In the last 24 hours we've used it 3 times. No more slowly and painfully pressing products through a sieve. Cooking is a labor of love in our household and now there will be more love, and a lot less labor.

I want to do some canning so I needed something that could help me make sauces and juice. Because I will not be doing large quantities, I did not want to invest in something larger and more expensive. After receiving this, I used it to make tomato sauce from tomatoes I had frozen over the summer. It worked perfectly. After I figured out how to assemble and disassemble my food mill, it was easy to use. I had read that cleaning was difficult from previous reviews, but I did not have any trouble at all. I have a dishwashing brush that has a soap dispenser on top that I used to clean the food mill plates. I gently rubbed the brush across the top of the plates to release stuck pieces of food and the food rinsed off with no problems. Am I glad that I upgraded from an inherited Foley food mill! So far I've used it for applesauce, and it works like a dream. I love that I can choose the size of the grinding disc and that it fits different sized pans and bowls securely. It is easy to put together and take apart if you follow the directions. The handle is much easier to turn and the mill cleans more easily than my Foley. It appears well-built, and I think will last for years.

I haven't used this for years and got it out to grate zucchini to make muffins. Struggled to get it to grate. Tried different sized pieces, but it was a mess. First time an OXO wasn't amazing for me. I must be doing something wrong.
Bought this a number of years ago to replace the old aluminum type, which were hard to clean and not as sanitary. I like the various sized plates. Used to make gallons of applesauce each year. I cut blemished apples into halves or quarter, core and all, after washing and cutting out any bad spots and removing stems. Cooked until mushy in a little water, I put it through the mill, takes about 15-20 minutes for a 12 gallon pot of apples. Most of the skin is ground up. I turn it backward periodically to clear the “holes”. Cooked with cinnamon and a little lemon juice, don’t need to add sugar, the mix of apples are sweet enough. If you like chunky applesauce, this isn’t for you. Love that the supporting legs fold, making storage easier. I don’t find it hard to attach ... MoreBought this a number of years ago to replace the old aluminum type, which were hard to clean and not as sanitary. I like the various sized plates. It’s difficult to assemble. I bought it to make creamy mashed potatoes. I followed different YouTube videos 4 times, used different potatoes, different ingredients. No luck. They come out like wallpaper paste. The potatoes get stuck under the blade which then won’t move, and if i left the skin on it’s even worse. I had to go back to mashing the old fashioned way, lumps or not.
This is my first food mill, so I have nothing to compare it to. I tried making applesauce with it, and after struggling with it, the applesauce did turn out very nice. The first problem I had was attaching the blade and turner to the body of the mill. I bought this one because it looked easy to attach. Not so. With the arthritis in my hands, moving the slide so the blade could be attached, was really difficult. I imagine that if you don’t have arthritis, this probably won’t be a problem for you. The next problem I had was the apples just rode on top of the blade attachment. I had cooked the apples with the skins on so they were soft. When I put about half of them into the food mill and turned the handle the apples just took a ride on the top of the blade. When I put about half of them into the food mill and turned the handle the apples just took a ride on the top of the blade. I had to stop repeatedly and push the apples under the blade. Once the apples were under the blade, the handle turned easily and the apple sauce was a nice consistency. It just took way too long to get to this stage. I am going to keep this a bit longer and try again, but if it doesn’t get easier, it will be going back. I buy many of the Oxo products, since they are designed to be easy to use. This food mill just doesn’t hit that mark.
I really wanted to like this food mill more. I usually like OXO products. Our main use is to strain roasted tomatoes to freeze for sauce. Our old Guillaraud (sp?) is about 30 years old & has served valiantly in the tomato wars. However, it is tin plated & the acid has gradually worn off the plating and there's started being a metallic taste to the puree. Also the fine disc needed to catch the tomato seeds got bent somehow. For whatever reason the OXO just doesn't work as well. I'm not sure the spring is strong enough. It takes about 3 times as long as the old one to get the tomatoes through.I do plan to try it on other foods and hope it works better.
I previously purchased a cheaper version of this food mill and had to return it since the side disc kept hitting the side and wouldn't turn. So I found this one which looks exactly the same, $20 more and was skeptical since I figured it wouldn't work either. However, much to my surprise it did! Even my daughter helped me make applesauce for the first time in our lives! I am so happy with this product, will doing tomatoes and raspberries soon. I was also looking for something that did not require electricity. Thanks for helping us to be a first time homesteader in the End Times.
I like the metal bowl on this food mill. The rubberized parts keep the thing from slipping while you're cranking. My only wish was that the bend in the handle were higher up so I could chop off the handle and use it with an electric drill. I did that with a cheaper food mill which was made of plastic. It worked well motorized but I could see some shreds of plastic coming off. I love my Oxo mandolin.
