My family eats a lot of veggies and it's been painstaking to peel them with my little peeler. This Large Y-Peeler is fantastic! It fits perfectly in my hand and provides a better grip than my little one ever did. With that perfect grip, I am able to enjoy just how sharp and efficient the blades are - a perfect peel every time and I don't have to go over the same spot several times to make sure I removed all the skin. Julienne carrots are a snap, zucchini slices happen so quickly and it really takes the pain out of meal prep. So happy to have this peeler!

This product was obtained without charge by me and I have written my view in connection with my participation in the my John Lewis Review Programme.First of all, this peeler is extremely wide - almost twice the width of a normal peeler. That said, it doesn't peel any faster as the things you are peeling are curved (e.g. potatoes, carrots, etc.). If you were peeling flat objects (e.g. chocolate bars to make chocolate curls) then yes it would be a good job, but for day to day use it is no better than a standard peeler. It does say on the packaging that you can use it to shred cabbage for salads and coleslaw - admittedly I did not try this but to be honest it would be far quicker just chopping cabbage with a knife than attacking it with this peeler. It is extremely ... It is extremely sharp though, so be very careful using it.The handle to me feels very flat and short in my hand. I like to feel that I have a secure grip on a peeler, and when using this I did not feel like I had a secure hold of it and ended up holding it really tightly. I think an ergonomist needs to look at the design of it - in my opinion it needs to be a little longer and more rounded and chunkier to be a better fit to your hand and enable you to hold it better.I don't think it represents value for money, it is many more times the cost of a standard peeler and doesn't perform any better at all. I haven't used it since my trial of it and have gone back to using my standard peeler as it feels more comfortable and safer to use.I do like the colour of it and it is well made and appears to be a quality item that should last a long time.

I finally used this yesterday to make cabbage salad with miso ginger dressing. I am impressed how sharp the blade and how my cabbage came out just the way I like them. You don’t have to put a lot of effort coz the blade are sharp. it’s absolutely a fantastic addition to my kitchen tools to make my various varieties of cabbage salads. I highly recommend them! love my salads
This handy little device makes prep work so much more efficient! I had been using a small peeler for larger produce, which admittedly was a real pain and took way longer than it needed to. This OXO peeler allows me to breeze through prepping my favorite larger veggies like eggplant and squash, and it even shreds cabbage with ease. Its easy grip is comfortable to use, and of course, it's dishwasher safe. Another A+ product from my favorite kitchenware brand.
I already had OXO swivel peeler (which is the best peeler I have used) so I debated if I really needed another, although larger, peeler. I am so glad I decided to give it a try. Talk about a huge time saver! Using it made the task of peeling sweet potatoes, zucchinis and eggplants a breeze. Just wait until you use for shredding cabbage. DONE...in no time. The OXO Large Vegetable Prep Peeler is a worthwhile addition to my kitchen utensil drawer!
I really like this peeler. Not only does it cover a wider area, it is so sharp the peel is almost transparent. Be warned though, I was peeling potatoes when my finger got sliced. It bled all over the place, the only person to help me was my very good friend, who gets woozy at the sight of blood. So there was me blood everywhere, I told my friend I wasn't hurt that it just looked bad because the fingers have many blood capillaries at the tip of the fingers. Did not help I was losing her to the land of nod, she managed to grab the first aid box. This incident was so silly, it played out like a scene you would expect Lucy and Edith play out. Back to the peeler, it is a great addition to my kitchen essentials.
I used the Large Y Peeler on both potatoes and a butternut squash, and the peeler did both tasks with ease. The blade is very sharp, as I would expect from a new tool (I wish it came with a safety cover, though). In comparison to a standard peeler, I didn't notice much difference. While the blade of the Large Y Peeler might be larger, since I was peeling rounded objects it didn't make a difference in how much surface the blade was able to contact in one cut. Solid product, but it was not a game-changer for me. I will be interested to see how sharp the blade remains after more usage. I do love the black and eggplant color combo so that's a nice bonus!
The OXO Good Grips Large Vegetable Prep Peeler comes with a wider blade than a regular vegetable peeler. The blade surface is three inches. The handle is positioned in the center of the blade, so it is held like a razor. The blade is wide (1.5 inches at the bottom of the handle, and flat (0.5 inches thick), and I would have preferred a more rounded, cushioned handle with a rubber grip that is more ergonomic and comfortable. I used the peeler on an eggplant. With my first attempt, there was some drag with the blade, resulting in a chunk of the eggplant's skin being removed. I had to pick the chunk out from between the blades. On the second attempt, I did remove a strip of skin from the eggplant. The curved surface of the eggplant resulted in a thin strip that the ... I had to pick the chunk out from between the blades. On the second attempt, I did remove a strip of skin from the eggplant. The curved surface of the eggplant resulted in a thin strip that the blade peeled, so the wide blade may not be very useful, because larger produce, such as eggplant and butternut squash, are generally curved. The label states that the peeler may be used to shred cabbage, but I would rather use a knife, to avoid having to pick shreds of cabbage from between the blades. It could be useful to make strips of zucchini to grill or use as a lasagna noodle substitute, but I have used a regular-sized peeler with success in doing this task. Overall, a wider blade is not necessary in a peeler and a bit awkward and uncomfortable to use.
This is the first time that I have used this style of peeler. My previous peeler was an old fashioned straight peeler, so it took a few goes to get used to the using the Y-shaped handle, and finding the most effective way of peeling different vegetables. There is no doubt that this peeler is sharp. It glides easily through the skin on potatoes and carrots. Carrots and other straight or flat vegetables peel easily because they are flat. Potatoes are however a but more tricky, particularly smaller potatoes. Peeling the curved surfaces requires small repeated cuts, which is more awkward and fiddly. After peeling carrots, I am left with significantly more peelings than I am used too. It feels quite wasteful. I have tried using the peeler with very light pressure to try to reduce the amount of vegetable peeled away, but it has little effect. In summary, well made and very sharp, but sometimes awkward to use and wasteful.
